You may be correct about the realtionship between Lydia and Ezra. Thank you for the information.
I was researching him for a local genealogical society project in Orange County, CA. We are trying to find as much information as possible for veterans buried in the Santa Ana Cemetery.
Thanks again.

I do not have any info on Ezra Stubbs, but Lewis Burdick was my ggg grandfather. His wife, Lydia, is listed as having the maiden name of Stubbs on Burton Burdick's death certificate. I am wondering if maybe Ezra was her brother?

Thank you very, very much for posting this. I have wondered ever since I got back to Samuel Burdett and Frances St. Lawrence - it seemed like a very extreme jump from Anglo-Norman-Irish nobility to colonists. I don't suppose you've gained any new information on the subject in the past two years?

I am trying to locate my great grandmother. She went by either Elsie Gore (married name)or by Mae or Mabel Burdick. It looks like she divorced my great grandfather around 1914 and went to Seattle area in 1917. She operated a roadhouse there and I haven't been able to find any information about her after the 1930 census in King, Pierce County, Washington. My mother knows she died around or just before her birth which was March of 1935 but we don't know where or where she is buried. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Desperately searching for anyone with information about my great grandmother Elsie "Mae" Mabel Burdick. She married Fountain Alva Gore and had two children, Nellie born in 1897 in Missouri and Irene born 1903 in Idaho. She left her husband and went to Seattle in 1917 where she operated a "roadhouse". We have found no divorce records, but know "Alva" remarried in 1914. Other than census records for 1920, we cannot find her anywhere. Our family knew her as "Mae" but no one ever spoke of her and we cannot find actual birthdates or family at all. I would appreciate any assistance.

Francis J. Burdick. Frank served with the 7th Calvary, in the Korean conflict, where he was wounded in battle. He later worked at the former Olmstead Air Base, in Middletown, until his retirement. After retiring, Frank worked in downtown Harrisburg, during the holiday parades as the kind gentleman making all the children smile by selling balloons and other fun toys.
Frank was preceded in death by his brothers Daniel A., Martin V., and Gerald C. Burdick. He is survived by his sister Ann Marie Legal, of Tucson, Arizona and many nephews and nieces; Wade Burdick, of Harrisburg, Dennis Burdick, of Camp Hill, Tim Burdick, of Lower Paxton Township, Mike Burdick, of Mechanicsburg, Danny Burdick, of Miami, FL, Jeff Burdick, of Seattle WA, Kirk Souder, of Harrisburg, Shawn Burdick, of Stowe VT, Lisa Smith, of Camp Hill, Laurie Burdick, of Sante Fe, NM and Kelli Snook, of Mechanicsburg.
Uncle Frank couldn't sit still for long. He was always on the go unless you lured him into a game of cards which could go on for hours. Later in life, he spent his leisure time pursuing his love of horse racing and more recently going to the Hollywood Casino. Uncle Frank was especially close with his nephews Wade Burdick and Kirk Souder but shared a very special bond with Kirk with whom he lived until he passed. He will be missed for his quick wit and sense of humor.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
(in Patriot-News on August 16, 2011 )

Who is Philena Burdick and Z or L S. Burdick? Alice Nash's Autograph Book

I came into an autograph book. It came with a petitpoint book mark of roses stitched on grosgrain ribbon.

Trying to figure out who some of these people were. I've browsed thru the 1880 census but all I have are names to go by...since this is 20-odd years before the census. People could have moved.

The autographs are addressed to Alice/Allie. The dates are from 1862-1869. A few in the '70s.

Some signatures are "Uncle Phelps", "Aunt Lizzie", Henry M. Hart, Cattie Brace, E. M. Stanton. Names in my tree and in this book are Phelps, Burdick, and possibly Lizzie (last name?) but I haven't traced the lineage of these particular people. Philena Burdick ???

Most of them seem to be from Michigan or Wisconsin.

I plan to take this book to an antique book dealer locally to find out about the binding and red leather cover...hand tooled, with gold on the spine and titled The Gem Album in gold.
Just found the Burdick name in my work on Hon. Henry Mower Rice, Minnesota Senator.
Henry Rice came to Kalamazoo area in Territory period according to Kalamazoo histories. He was son of deceased Edwin Rice (d. 1829) of Waitsfield, Vermont.
He worked on surveys in Michigan Terr and early statehood period and then my next sightings are in Iowa Territory.
The Burdicks appear to have taken him under their wing--although his mother still lived in Waitsfield. Two other brothers--Orrin Rice and Edmund II Rice--and perhaps brother Chas. Rice--ended up in Minn history also and may have passed through the Kalamazoo story.
Justus Burdick was brother to Cyren according to Everts & Abbott "History of Kalamazoo County, Michigan : with illustrations and biographical sketches of its prominent men and pioneers..." p. 253-54 and they were in Kalamazoo area in 1832.
If anyone has any info regarding how the young Henry Mower Rice (and his brothers?) was connected to the Justus Burdick family and how they interacted in early Kalamazoo I would very much like to know, even if it's years from now.
LBryan
1752 Gulden Place
Maplewood MN 55109

She is descended from his son Edward (who lived quite an interesting life, based on my research!). I just found Triphena's obituary on http://fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html (search for Triphena Darrow - you'll find it in the Cooperstown Otsego Farmer).

I believe Edward and Elizabeth had at least one more child after the sampler was finished: Thomas E Burdick (1820-1870).

I have lots of interesting info to share about this branch of the Burdicks. You can contact me directly at TimHall1@gmail.com and I'll send you what I've got.

Best regards,
Tim Hall

Hi, I'm looking for information about the ancestors of Wendell Dwight Burdick, my great grandfather. I've traced back 4 generations and gotten stuck because neither me nor my mom know anything about his parents.
From what I have found so far, he was born May 1918 in Kiowa, OK and died in Battle Creek, MI on 4/3/2005. He had two children, Wendell Dale Burdick (8/26/1940) and Robert Lee Burdick (birthday unknown) with a Doris Matilda LaBar (12/4/1922). He had two other children with a woman named Elizabeth who may have been of Russian descent - their names are Marietta Burdick and Michael Burdick. All four children were born in Battle Creek, MI.
If you have any information about his parents or Michael and Marietta, please let me know. I would be glad to give more information about my family line, as well.

I looked up Charles Burdick in the Social Security Death Index, selecting only New Jersey. There were only three. One had a middle initial H. So he was out. The other two were both born in 1902. One passed in '72, I think, the other in the 80's. Different counties. I suggest looking there for leads. My maiden name is Burdick, that's why I read this board, but my folks are on the other coast. Good luck. The info on the index is specific enough to get death certificates, counties and dates.

On the BC it said his age was 31 and my Dad was born 4/3/45. From that I deducted he was possibly born 1913 or 1914 ( depending on what time of year he was born). Since he was born out of wedlock and in wilkesbarre pa...I assume his father wasn't there and my grandmother gave the info. If she could lie to my father and his family her whole life about his real name then it's possible she lied about his father's age too. Especially since on a BC....having a man who was 31 when you were 21 doesn't sound as bad as if he was really 41. Thanks for the info...I will keep it- you never know he really could have been older thus the reason I've had trouble finding him.

Thanks again....I really appreciate that you took the time to help,
Michele

My father will be gone four years this coming April...and my only wish is to bring closure to a life-long dream of his...which is to find information about his father.

My Dad was born in 1945 out of wedlock. His father's name was Charles C Burdick and he lived in the Newark, NJ area (somewhere in Essex County, NJ).

At the time, Charles had a family so my grandmother's parents took my father and raised him as their own son in Wilkes-Barre, PA alongside his aunts/uncles.

He only saw his father twice as a young kid in a bar where his mother forced him to ask Charles for money. As you can imagine...that broke his heart.

My father was raised as Thomas Carlin only to find out four years prior to his death that his real name was Charles Curtis after his father. My dad's mother told him that children born out of wedlock didn't have birth certificates...but we were able to get his birth certificate in Wilkes-Barre, PA's hospital and were shocked to find that he wasn't who he thought he was at 59 years of age. He legally changed his name to Thomas before dying.

If anyone knows of someone related to Charles Curtis Burdick or if you knew him yourself...could you reach out to me? I've searched high and low and have been unable to come up with anything except a local directory in 1938 which showed Charles Burdick living in Nutley, NJ. Until the 1940 census is released...I don't know how else to locate him or his relatives.

Please help me bring closure and find information about the grandfather I never knew.

Many thanks.

Her Father is Andrew Jackson, her mother is Louisa Beith.

Jay and Mabel Burdick had two children - Orpha Burdick and Virginia Burdick.

Am hoping to find some descendants from this family to correspond with, but any and all information about them would be very much appreciated.
Nathaniel Burdick and Mary O'Brien DeKalb, NY

According to notes left by my long ago deceased Grandmother; Nathaniel Burdick and Mary O'Brien, last of DeKalb, St Lawrence County, New York, had 4 children: Charles, Lafayette, Horace, and Julia. Julia married Harrison Wetmore and is my Great Great Grandmother. Horace died in new Orleans during the Civil War and is buried in Chalmette National Cemetery.

I am looking for any info on Charles and Lafayette. I find several different Charles and Lafayette but I can't seem to find and documentation for the right ones.

Further, in the 1850 US Census, along with Nathaniel and Mary, I find an Emily Burdick and Harris Burdick. I believe Harris is really Horace. Who is Emily?

In the 1860 US Census, also along with Nathaniel and Mary, I find Emily again as well as Mortimer Burdick and Mary Burdick. Who are Mortimer and Mary and where are they in further years?

I am also looking for the parents of Nathaniel and Mary O'Brien.

Thank you for any help that can be provided.

Robert Love
Wauna, WA

Do you have any info on A.E. Burdick? My son attends the grade school named after Alfred and I am trying to gather information on who he was. Most of the data I can find regards his father, Morgan L. Burdick.
