BURKHALTERS FROM SC, AL, MS

I am researching a Tallahatchie County, MS family who appeared in Charleston tax records as early as 1841. Specifically, I am looking for anyone who has data on Dionysius and Eliza Ann (Golden) Burkhalter. He married Eliza in 1837, but I don't know where. I know Dionysius was born in 1802 in Edgefield, SC to Jeremiah and Lydia (Stevens) Burkhalter. I know Dionysius died in Charleston, MS in 1855. I also believe that Eliza was a second or third wife. I know she was the mother of the 4 daughters who appeared with them on the 1850 Tallahatchie census: Mary Elizabeth, Ann H. (who married John B.Sutton in 1857), Amanda Jane, and Martha S. Reuben Golden, who I believe was Eliza Ann's father, also was noted in their household. I also suspect that Dionysius' oldest children by a first wife were named: Abraham C., Alexander S., William F., Isaac, and Perry Burkhalter. Here is my problem: I can not find this Burkhalter family in AL or MS in the 1840 census. I can't find Dionysius' siblings either, but heard they lived in AL (not sure of the county), that they did not move with Dionysius to MS. I am trying to confirm what I have and learn anything new about this Burkhalter family, especially where they were in 1840.

Rudolph and Katherina Burkhalter, Butler County, Ohio

We are searching for descendants of Rudolph (or Rudolf) Burkhalter and his wife Katherina who came from Switzerland to St. Clair, Butler Co., Ohio in 1905. They had three girls: Karoline, born 16 Feb 1901 in Switzerland, Martha, born 21 Dec 1902 in Switzerland and Johanne, born in 1908 in Ohio. Rudolph was a tool maker, the three girls were all teachers. We have no idea who they got married to and if they had children. The Burkhalter relatives in Switzerland would love to get in contact with descendants. Thanks.

Burkhalters in PA

I am looking for information on my great grandmothers family. Her name was Lillian Burkhalter Gibb, born in PA in 1885?. Married James H. Gibb; had 12 children. Lived in Allegheny Co. PA. According to the 1930 census, her father was born in Switzerland, her mother in Missouri. I found a Jeanette Burkhalter that was born in 1860? in Missouri, but can't find any other information about her. If this information is correct, it is possible she could be my gr grandmothers mother. There is a Frederick Burkhalter that came over from Switzerland around 1877? to New York; he married a Jeanette Weinrich? born 1859? He may have gone to GA after he came to the US, I noticed quite a few Burkhalters from GA, don't know...the information is very close, but I'm not sure if I have the right family line. Does anyone have any information on these people? I would greatly appreciate anything. Please email me at bjrca5@peoplepc.com.

Thanks in advance.

Wilkins "Wilk" T. Burkhalter & Frances "Fannie" Gregory family

I am hunting for any information or for any living relatives from the family of Wilkins “Wilk” T. Burkhalter, born around 1850 in Georgia and Frances “Fannie” Gregory born 1853 in Alabama. Fannie’s parents were Charles W. and Mary Parks Gregory who both died in Springtown, Parker County, Texas. I am a descendant of William O. “Landon” Gregory who was Fannie Gregory Burkhalter’s brother.

Wilk and Fannie Burkhalter had the following children. Some of these names could possibly be nicknames or could be entirely different.
1 .Mamie Burkhalter married J.M. McLaughlin
2. Gip Burkhalter married Elza Jane Morrow
3. James Burkhalter married Lula Morrow
4. Annie Burkhalter married J.M. Cross
5. Jennie Burkhalter married E.L. Dunegan
6. Mack Burkhalter married Miranda Helms then Panny Haley
7. Berney or Burney Burkhalter (born abt 1889 in Tx) married Letleh Mink Boyd
8. Ocie Burkhalter married Minnie or Winnie Young
9. Hamp Burkhalter born abt 1891 in Tx
10. Haddie “Had” Burkhalter (born abt 1893-Tx) married Lizzie Haley
11. Lonnie W. Burkhalter (born abt 1881-Tx) married Anice or Anis Holman
12. Barney Burkhalter married Willie Moore

The 1900 census for Wilk and Fannie Burkhalter from Voting Precinct 8, Parker County, Texas, shows a son, Kirby Burkhalter, so I don’t know if this is another sibling or if one of the above is Kirby. I did find in the Parker County Texas marriage records that A.K. Burkhalter had married Minnie Young on July 7, 1907 and wonder if this could this be the same as # 8 shown above. Also on this 1900 census were sons Darnie and Oell.

I would be interested in getting in contact with any living descendants of the Burkhalters to exchange information.
His wife was Johanna Caroline Charlotte SIECK, the daughter of Rev. John Henry SIECK. She and her descendants belong in a genealogy I am attempted to compile. I have data to share with all of those with an interest in this family

I am looking for any information on Burkhalters in Rome, Floyd Co., GA. Mrs. W. R. Burkhalter of R. F. D. #5, Rome, Ga. was named in the probation of the will of my gggreat uncle, Zachariah Taylor Mozley who died in 1931 in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL. I believe Mrs. Burkhalter to be the daughter of Barney and Mary C. Mozley. I don't know her first name. Barney died in 1911 and Mary remarried Clarence Garrard. The chidlren that I have for Barney and Mary are:

Beatrice M. Mozley, born in 1903
Miles C. Mozley, born bet. 1903-1908 and died in Ohio
Hoyt, born 1906, died 1906
Eloise, born about 1910

There may be other children who were not in the household in 1920. I have not found Barney and Mary in the 1910 census yet.

If anyone has any info to assist me with this, I would greatly appreciate it. I will gladly share what info that I have. Mozley is sometimes spelled Mosley, Mosely, and Moseley, but Miles C. is listed as Mozley in the Ohio death index and Beatrice is listed in the Georgia death index as Mozley.

Thank you

Mona Herrin

Descendant of Jerry M. Burkhalter

Jerry M. Burkhalter was born August 7, 1819 in Wilkes County, GA. He was first owned by Mr. Short and afterwards was transferred several times until he went to live with Mr. Dukes. At the age of 27, he learned blacksmithing and continued working at the trade until slavery was abolished in 1865, He was in the hands of a speculator for about fourteen months and could not be disposed of because of the peculiar form in which he made his horseshoes. The pattern not commonly seen in this country.

Although my gg grandfather was never owned by anyone named Burkhalter, I do not know why he assumed this surname. His parents were Nathaniel and Celia Williams.

When Jerry and his brothers moved to Illinois in 1867, they amassed a fortune and became wealthy landowners. They were written up in the 1878 History of Jackson County, IL.

If anyone has any info on the slave Jerry M. Burkhalter, I would appreciate your information. His brothers were Nathaniel Williams, John Thomas Williams, and Reuben Reed.

Thanks.

Burkhalter Family

I have the ORIGINAL Bible that has been passed down to me through my grand-father (Daniel Forrest Burkhalter Sr.)which has entries dating back to the early 1800's. I am guessing that the entries were made by Rev. Michael Burkhalter who moved to Greene Co. Tennessee and later seetled in Marion Co. Tennessee in the early 1800's. If anyone has any information including stories and legends, that would help, PLEASE, e-mail me so that I can pass this information down to my son and continue the family history. Thank you in advance.

e-mail - gaburk@swbell.net

snail mail - Gregory Burkhalter
3801 Newton
Pasadena, Texas, 77503
