Is it possible this is my several times removed grandfather John George Burkhardt b. 1754 in Canton Basle, Switzerland. He served in Pennyslvania's VonHeer's Cavalry, which was created by an act of Congress to serve as General George Washington's body guards. He married Mary Barbara Fox 30 Jan 1776. If this sounds like your ancestor, I'd be happy to share anything I have on his forebears and my side of the family up to date. :)

Dr. Frederick H. BURKHARDT, b. 18 January 1874 in Illinois, d. 20 June 1932 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. His death certificate gives his father's name as Gustave BURKHARDT, b. in Germany. Mother's name was unknown, but her birthplace was also Germany.

Frederick was a Dentist in Chicago, and was married to Elise PARENSEN (Elise's maiden name on their marriage certificate listed as SCHRUIG, her step-father's surname.) They had one child, Viola BURKHARDT, b. 1900 in Chicago.

I cannot locate Gustave BURKHARDT in 1880, nor can I find Frederick on that census. Looking to connect with any BURKHARDT descendants of Gustave.

I sent my brother Henry your question about Andreas Burkhardt. I vaguely remember some sort of story about Andreas having some sort of property dispute with his siblings upon returning from the civil war, and as a result he disowned them all. But Henry may be able to clarify whether this is true or not.

o not h ave a great deal of info on Anton Burkhart or Adellia Beier Burkhart. Adellia (Adeleid, Adelia, Adeline)Beier was my relative. Do you have any dates on Elizabeth or where they lived or came from in Europe. 1880 census finds them in Washington Co. Oregon. 1920 they are found in Portland, OR. Anton was born in Wurtemburg in abt 1855, Adellia was born in Austria in abt 1854. Their daughter, listed as Mar. Anna born in abt 1878 in Nebraska and Jacob, a son, in Oregon in abt 1879. Anton died in 1933. Adellia survived him. Does any of this info fit into what you have.

My family is Burkhardt and my gggrandfather Jacob married Caroline Beier. On further investigation it appears that my Caroline (Johanna Caroline) had a sister called Elizabeth.
The other brothers and sisters are Louisa Ernestine, August, Ernestine, Paulin Wilhelmina, Heinrich Wilhelm, Heinrich Trougott, Anna Maria & Charles Trougott.
Elizabeth was the youngest child. Not sure if this is a match for you.

My mother spoke of an uncle "Gus" and she had a cousin named Matilda. Matilda died several years ago in Port St. Lucie Florida. She was married to Howard Gagg. I don't believe they had any children. Any connection?

I have an original 5”x7” photograph of “Ella & Frank Hackman & Anna Hackman Burkhardt”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Richmond (Wayne Co.) IN, and Fred looks about 65, Ella about 50 and Anna is about age 10.

I found the family of Fred Hackman in the 1900 census for Richmond, IN, showing his date of birth as May 1836; Ellen Apr 1860; and Anna Kanke, age 5, a niece, born Mar 1895. The 1910 Richmond census shows Fred as age 52 (meaning 1858); Ellen, age 50 (meaning 1860) and Annie Kanke, age 15 as “adopted daughter”.

OneWorldTree shows Anna Hackman married Reinhold Burkhardt, whose DOB was Feb 1888. I found Reinhold and Anna Burkhardt in the 1930 censuses for Wayne Co., IN.

Looking for more marriage and birth information on my GG Grandmother Sophie GUTBERLET (nee ?, from family sources her previous marriage surname is BURKHARDT, maiden name unknown). From what information I have, she was born in Germany about 1835, and emigrated to NY in 1895 aboard the ship Havel, with her daughter Justine GUTBERLET. In the 1900 census, she is apparently living in Boston with Antin J (Head of household) and his wife Mary F Burkhardt and their children (census gives relationship to head of household as 'mother'). This tends to confirm the Burkhardt is a previous marriage surname story if it is a valid family connection. The different spellings of Burkhardt above have appeared on various documents - don't know which is the 'official' variant.

Her son, by the GUTBERLET marriage, was my G-Grandfather Adolph GUTBERLET, born in Batten (by Hilders) Hessen-Nassau, Germany in 1873, so the family resided there for a while.

I have been looking into the Burkhard family, because of the recent death of a descendant to whom I am related. Her name is Ethyl "Pat" (Doornek) Jansen (1916-2007).

Her mother was Julia Burkhardt(1895-1975), daughter of Charles(1870-) and Minnie (1874-) (Friedrich) Burkhardt of Granville, Milwaukee, WI. Charles was the son of Lawrence and Catharine (c1820-) (Mayer)Burkhardt.

Thank you for the info on L.C. and George, because I could not find them.

I did find William (c1840-), Daniel (c1846-), John (c1848-) and Henry (c1856-) had moved to Home, Brown, Minnesota. The other two children, being Catherine and Louisa, have not been found by me and I do not need this for my family, but if you are interested in any more about the family in Milwaukee, I would be glad to look anything up for you.

I also know that Julia married in the Roman Catholic Church at St. Martin's in Granville to Alfred Doornek in 1915. There's is the only Burkhardt marriage there, and Julia was listed as a Calvinist later in life. I know she was buried in West Granville Cemetery, and is probably with her parents.

Hi Tina, I wish I had more information for you but I only have some of the old letters which refer to Mr or Mrs and the one daughter. They lived in a mansion at the corner of Madison and Vista avenues in Cincinnnati, Ohio. The home was destroyed in the 1960-1970's. It was a magnificant home with stables and a foultain in front. It was not to far fom the Taft home in East Walnut Hills. I also have a ledger but I do not recall any of the names you mentioned. I will look again and if I can help I will let you know.

My 4th great grandfather was Francois Barrios Burkardt (sp?) and was born in La Soelure Switzerland. He came to Louisiana and married a native in 1810. (Francois' parents were Benois/Benoit Burkardt and Marie Dutillier) The area where Francois settled was in St. John the Baptiste Parish and mostly french, so the last name was changed to "Burcard"

I believe Anton Burkhardt came to the USA from Wurtenberg, Germany in 1873. He married Adellia (Adelia, Adeline) Beier, who came from Austria with her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Beier, and siblings Amalia, Frank, Adolph and Joseph between 1872 and 1876 Another sibling, Julia, was born in Nebraska about 1876.
Anton and Adellia had a daughter, Mar. Anna, born in Nebraska in about 1878.They moved before 1880 to Oregon, where a son, Jacob, was born in abt 1879.

George married Emma Carter and they had 9 children all together but only 4 survived. I am looking for the surviving children's children and grand children because my mother and her sister have never met any of their cousins and we would like to learn about George and Emma Burkhardt. I have some information.

I have a George Burkhardt b. 1850 whose sister Emma married George Grimm. Their parents came from Germany and resided in Chicago IL. Not sure if there is a connection though. George is my great grandfather.

The Jacob Burkhardt I ran across that was married to Margaretha Babille had a daughter named Ann Burkhardt born Feb 25 1610 in Korhender Weierttembutg Germany and died January 8, 1678 in Duehren Seinsheim Baden Germany. Jacok was born Jan 29 1572 in possibly Kochendorff Germany.I happened across this as I was looking for my relatives nameJohann Philipps Burkhardt married to Dorothea Pfeiffer and had a daughter Caroline Frederike that married Wilhelm Ludwig Sandner in Asper Weierttemburg Germany also. Have you by any chance any info on these Burkhardt's?

My gggrandfather was Jacob Burkhardt (aka Joachim) in St. Louis County. I know nothing about him or where he arrived in this country. From distant relatives I've been told he came from Baden, Germany and would have been born about 1794. He died in St. Louis County, Missouri about September 1, 1867 at age 73.

Do you have any records among your family that would coincide with these dates for a male named Jacob or Joachim???

I am a ggg-grandaughter of the American Revolutionary soldier, John Burkhardt(Burkett). In a family history I have, it is noted that Mrs. Carl F. Lehman,of Lindsey,Ohio, was his gg-grandaughter. She is possibly the daughter of
Solomon Burkett II. It is writen in the family history that she had the sword, that John Burkhardt used in the Am. Rev., encased in a glass frame hanging on a wall in her home. I would like to get an actual photo of the sword if possible. I have a zerxo copy of a photo of it that was in the 1977 Burkhardt-Burkett Family in America written in 1977. Specifically on Anna M. Burkhardt (born in the US Jun 1875), who married Henry Heitzhaus. Anna's mother's first name was Veronica. (All I know that she was born in Germany sometime around 1843??). Anna had a sister Antoinette. Anna and Henry lived on N. Hampton (or Harrystone), East Ferry St. and Buchner (spelling may be wrong) Rd??. They had three children. Ethel Antoinette, Dorothy and Henry A.

Not sure if there is any relation but thought I would take a stab at it. In Buffalo... My great grandmother's maiden name was Anna M. Burkhardt. She married Henry Heitzhaus. I know that she was born in NY in June 1875. Her mother, Veronica, came from Germany and lived with Anna (according to the 1910 Buffalo Census she was 67 years old). Anna's 30 year old sister, Antoinette, also lived with them (according to the same census information). They had 3 children. Ethel (my grandmother born June 1897), Dorothy, and Henry. Does this match anything you have come across?
