Hi, Everyone.

I may have some insight from my tree. Not 100% sure but I think Burley's parents names (if this was not already found out by you) are Benjamin Harvey Duke (1790-1837) & Nancy Johnson (1796-1859). Burley would have been my GGGGrandfather through his son John James (who's daughter Lela had my grandmom Neomia, who had my Dad).

Hi: I am a shuler and have been traqcing our Shuler family for years. On my Gr. Grandfather Charles Edward Shuler 's will it was spelled 5 different ways. The way we in the Michigan Clan spell it. It was Spelled Scholar- Schueller-Schuler Shullor. Even my own family it was spelled Shular.
Nobody realize the misspelling until the 80's Whe my husband and I we going on a cruise and need a pasport. 1 husband and 2 children later. Even the wasn't noticed going through my father's funeral and all that goes with that. Amazing

She married Charles Garrison and they farmed in the Rolla area and in Manitoba.
I hope this response will still be valid. Arthur Burley was my great-grandfather. I've been looking for information about him. My family didn't talk much about that side of our family. My grandmother, Eva Mae Burley Garrison died in 1969. My mother, Bernice Garrison Carpenter didn't know much about either side of her family. I'm grateful to know the information you provided. My brothers still live in North Dakota
Janet Carpenter

Hello....nice to hear from another Burley researcher. I'll give you what I have. I am back to SAMUEL BURLEY who married SUSANNAH HALL at Duffield, Derbys on 9 Nov 1680. I have children as ...Samuel bpt 21 Sept.1681...Ann b.1683..
Thomas bpt 30 Mar 1686 St. Peter's Nottingham..Henery (sic) bpt 15 Feb 1687 St. Peter's Nottingham and John (my ancestor) bpt. 5 Feb 1689 St. Peters.
John married Rebeckah Whitby on 8 Aug 1713 at St Peter's Nottingham. I am descended from their daughter Hannah (bpt 22 Aug 1714 at St. Peter's. Hannah married Charles Wood in Nottingham 3 May 1737...descended from their daughter, Rebeckah.
I find Burley also spelt as Birley, Bourley and Burleigh.
Now if I could find out who Samuel's parents are or if he had a son named Richard. And if you found out who Richard's parents are. Bet we will find they are related. Just south of Duffield are located Burley Meadows, Burley Grange and Burley Hill. No doubt our Burley family began there. What do you think??
Hi there,

I am currently researching a Burley family who were from the Duffield area of Derbyshire. I have sadly, since I do not get to Derby very often, only gotten back as far as a Richard Burley, born sometime before 1708, who married in Duffield and had children Catherine, Ellen, Michael and Richard. Appears to have married an Alice Robothom. Many Burley's in the area, but I have nothing concrete to link Richard to any other, with the exception that there are a number of Catherine Burley's born in the area. Any info which might tie these two families together would be great.

Quoting from "7th Town/Ameliasburgh Township past and present" page 653: The early history of the Burley family is traced from the pioneer David Sager in other family stories. (Ref. Sager and Weese), so we will begin with David Gilbert and Catherine Sager whose daughter Mary Elizabeth born in 1790 married John Burley (1782-1820). He was the son of Freeman Burley U.E. and his wife Susannah Weese, daugher of John Weese U.E. and his wife Mary Rees of Ernestown. Mary Elizabeth and John Burley had four sons, David, Freeman, James and Ephraim. Freeman Burley (1820-1886) marred Elizabeth Scholler (1823-1891) and lived on the west half of lot 87, Cons. 2, which he inherited through his mother in 1866, and on which he built the present house. The farm still remains in the family. Ephraim Burley lived next door on the east half of lot 87. Freeman and Elizabeth Burley had three daughters and an oly son John, who when four years old was killed by a colt. Two of ther daughters, Elizabeth and emilty married Calnan brothers.

Pg 654 cont. Elizabeth Burley (1849-1935) married Edward Calnan 1858-1939. Their son Allen married Alma Babcock. Their daughter Aileen Calnan Foster is the author of "The Calnan Family," Printcraft, Bloomfield 1981. Emily Burley (1854-1935) married David Calnan (1847-1925) and since there was no Burley son, David Calnan and his wife Emily inherited the homestead. They raised nine children.

Let me know if you want more of this. Verna
