Hi David
Thanks fro the message, plenty of Burman descendants out there.
My grandmother was Hannah Burman daughter of John 1869 and
Kathleen Anger
John was the son of Edward 1841 and Eliza Rebecca Carr
Edward son of Edward Thomas 1817, although on a lot of census he is just down as Thomas, and Sophia Abrahams
daughter of Benjamin.
Thats where i'm stuck Thomas Burman was married to Hannah
Purnell 4.4.1798 St Mary Islington, Children Zeffa 1801, James 1802,Hannah 1803, Charlotte Phoebe 1809, Charles Nourse 1814, our Edward 1817 and Susannah 1819
Thomas was born about 1771 and died 1848.Hannah still remains a mystery but with all the new records going on
Ancestry things are looking up.
If you want to contact me outside this thread i'm on
Babshagan136@hotmail.com
regards Barbara

Hi,

Seems like your grandfather is on my family tree. Just getting into this, but I have a Charles Burman b 1874, Islington, parents of Edward & Eliza. They had children Rachel/John/Edward/CHARLES/Emily/Thomas/May/Mary. Charles is listed in 1901 census as Bricklayaer's labourer, living with parents at 16 Ascot Street, West Ham.
Your great grandfather, Edward born in 1842 in Hoxton Middlesex & was married to Eliza born in 1848, Stepney.
One of Edwards brothers, Benjamin, is my great grandfather, so looks like we are distant relations!
Both your and my great great grandfather was Thomas Burman, born in 1817 Clerkenwell, and he married Sophia Abrahams. I have details of the whole of that family if you want them.
It gets a bit confusing pushing backward from there. My information says that our g-g grandfather was the son of another Thomas Burman, married to Hannah( unknown).
if you are interested in knowing what else I have, or indeed if you have managed to push our MUTUAL TREE backward beyond 1800, then please do let me know!

regards, David Burman

Hello there. I can not give you any more information unfortunately. I have requested more information from my other relatives who may be in contact with James Stanley Burman as he was the brother of my great uncle Alfred. Alfred is the person who gave me the Burman tree so he may have been in touch with his brother regularly. I know for certain that great uncle Alfred died a few years back, not so long ago.
I will come back to you with another thread if I receive any information that may be of use to you.
Good luck

I am interested in Helen Weissberg born c.1918 to Alvin William Weissberg b.1895 & Marie McKeown b. 1894. I do not know if this is the same Helen Weissberg married to Burman, but I suspect it is because her SSDI indicates she lived in Waldwick, Bergen, NJ, where a Helen Weissberg and her parents lived in 1930.Her Great Grandparents, Frederick Weissberg b. Jan 1839 Germany & Elisabeth Ulrich Weissberg b 1843 in germany are buried in a family plot along with my Great Grandparents(Ferdinand Hofmann & Catherina Otto Hofmann) and other Hofmann family members at All-Faiths-Cemetery in Queens, New York. I can not find how my family is related to the Weissbergs!! If anyone has any info please contact me.

I have an old faded color photo of 3 young women at a camp in 1947. The writing on the back appears to say,

"Clark Field Camp,
Camp Avoda"

The names written on the back are:

"Mrs. Burman - India"
Lea Hearn,
Gen Clark."

My understanding is Camp Avoda is a Jewish camp.

The Mrs. Burman named is dressed in Middle Eastern/Asian style attire.

Hi Barbara,
I don't have much for dates either... All I have is the Australian Imperial Force extract marriage certificate dated 9-8-1918. Annie is listed as a spinster age 26, living at 14 Primrose Rd. Leyton. Marriage at Parrish Church and married by W. Harold Doggett Curate. Annie's sister Ada (not sure of the spelling) Did come to Aus once for a visit and we believe she is the younger sister. I did look at the WC & Lamb, but could find no connection for the sister Ada. So the brick wall has been an issue.

thanks & Cheers
Larry

I found an Annie Burman born 1891 Hackney to William Charles and Elizabeth(nee Lamb) living at 119 Church Road Leyton Essex,1901 Census
no Ada though but she could have been born after 1901.
sotty could not help more
Regards Barbara

Hi Richard,
Sameul is one of my ancestor i'm looking for. His wife liked to be called Anne. My records suggest he was born in 1833 in the Westminster Area of London. It would be fantastic if there were a link but Ive had so many red herrings that I dont hold out to much hope.
Still if there is a link we can swap details, and who knows I might have some information you require.

Regards

C.R.C.Burman

Mark was the son of Henry Burman (c1846 Churchill - 1907 Pershore)and Maria Ashby (c1842 Tysoe, Warwickshire - 1912)who married 3 November 1866 in Chipping Norton.

Henry is the son of Thomas Burman and Mary Ann Clarke who married 14/10/1835 in Heythrop. Other children were Mary Ann, Thomas, James, Leah, Ellen, Emma, Ann Elizabeth, Rhoda, Alice Maria, Edwin, Daniel, Louisa and Eliza!

Thomas Burman and family appears as follows:
1841 census - Mead Cottages, Chipping Norton.
1851 & 1861 census - Chipping Norton.
1871 - Black Boy Yard, Chipping Norton.
1881 - West End, Chipping Norton

Link is via Mary Ann Burman, sister to Henry. Mary Ann Burman (c1837 - 1900) married John Beechey in 1862 in Witney. John and Mary Ann are my GGG Grandparents.

I seem to have your Heber Mark Burman (c1893 - 1938), son of Mark and Fanny, but have his wife as Daisy Boswell (1890 - 1974) and not Lily. Have them as marrying in 1915 in Evesham, Worcestrshire. Have three children for them Heber (c1920 Bricklehampton); Iris Elizabeth (c1923 Bricklehampton) and Hubert Kenneth (1930 Bricklehampton. Though I am not saying that what I have is 100% correct.

Happy to share what info I have and you can contact me at mariajpodonnell@hotmail.com

Regards

Maria
Thank you for the message. The chances are that there is no connection, unfortunately, because in general I have never been able to find a match between my Burman ancestors and any non-Jewish ones. Still, though, do you know if any descendants of Gail Burman and James Schifferdecker can be contacted?

...Mel Powell
