I think I had FTM years ago, but it was just family sheets, as I remember.
If you have anything that could be sent by email, that would be great. I am looking for a connection between our James anderson and the Rockbridge Co., VA. Andersons. I am wondering about William Anderson who died in TN. or N.C.
Could he have been the father of our James who died in 1822? Thanks. D.Lhdlamb2@gmail.com

Would be happy to share all that I have. My computer crashed several months ago and I lost all my family tree files. I still have the paperwork so that I can rebuild my computer files. Do you have Family Tree Maker program? I got a new one called Family Tree Maker Essentials almost a year ago.
If you have FTM I will send what I have as I get it typed
into my files. Let me know.

Cynthia, my daughter sent me a post of yours indicating that James and Jane Allison Anderson were parents of Isaac, Asa, John and Sara Anderson. This was some time ago. Isaac was my great, great grandfather, and I have been searching for the names of his parents. His father was a James who died in Apr. 1822; this was in his son's Bible: Isaac, Jr. was a son by Isaac's second wife, Sarah Deason.
I do feel that Isaac descends from the Rockbridge, Va. Andersons, but have no proof. Any help would be appreciated. hdlamb2@gmail.com

i am now finding out as i do more research that some of the stories i have been told were just hear say and not fact. rueben brown is a good example. my older brother has a book on the civil war and it mentions rueben brown in detail. rueben did not defect to the union by choice. he was a key player in organizing the confederacy in this area, and the union captured him and instead of killing him , they threatened to kill his family if he did not defect. the union thought this would be a good strategic move. after the war he returned to his family in disgrace, but in time the word spread that he was forced to defect and he lived out his days in this area. i am picking up the book in a few days to see what else is said about rueben or his family.

linda some of this info is fact handed down thru the years, and some is hear say, but you may or may not be interested. i will list it anyway, since it is info i found out in my years of searching.the burnette cup i mentioned was named after a french or english cardinal in the catholic church. also, in the 70s i spoke with a relative of john burnette, who spelled her name without the "E" on the end. she said there was some sort of scandal in the 1850s involving the burnettes, and a line of relatives dropped the "E" because they did not want to be associated with them. not a good thing but may be useful anyway. i was told why they dropped the "E" but i think that is hear say and cannot be validated yet. i also have dates of birth, death and children for most of the sons and daughters of ernest and bessie. i will send you those soon. johnny and dorsey have sons named randy, rocky, and billy who all have videos on you tube. i have emailed billy numerous times but have gotten no response as of yet. i will also try to help you with the burnette name back before they immigrated to america. ernest has a street named for him, located behind the korner market at the intersection of 23rd street and rossville blvd. in chattanooga. (burnette street). he and bessie lived there for years and ernest built dog houses for a living.
linda, i also have some info on the sons and daughters of ernest hugh and bessie. you have vertilee listed as a daughter, and her name is actually Verilee, without the T. charlie hamilton was named after hamilton county, and my dad marion after marion county. verilee was taken out of the bible. the line verily verily i say unto you. lol dad always said he was blessed not to be born in sequatchie county. lol ernest played piano and his brother in law, oscar dacus who owned dacus antiques, would load the piano in the back of his pickup truck and they would drive down market and broad streets in chattanooga on sunday afternoon, with ernest in back of the truck playing the piano. they would stop at broad and market, draw a crowd, and ernest would play all afternoon for tips. this was in the 1930s. anyway i hope to hear from you. david

i am trying to get updated email for linda bailiff stringer. the emails i sent came back as unknown. i was talking to your aunt i believe, betty jones. i am david burnette, son of marion and grandson of ernest hugh. i may have some helpful info on the burnette line, and can also expand the tree you have worked so hard to put together. i was amazed at what you have done so far.you may know the brown side of family started browns ferry in jasper, and still live in the area. johnny and dorsey burnette were huge rockabilly stars in the 1950s, and dorsey played in band with elvis till him and johnny made it big on their own.dorsey's son, billy plays with john fogerty now and use to play with fleetwood mac. all the burnettes were musically inclined. ernest used to go to memphis when i was only 6 or 7 to see his brother john, and johnny and dorsey. Johnny and dorsey recorded at the old SUN studios with elvis, johnny cash, carl perkins, roy orbison and ricky nelson. the johnny burnette trio was very famous and still has a website you may be able to get a response from to gather more info. you tube has many videos on them all, including my son, brian husky burnette, who tours the country playing blues music. i have been told that "burnette" was a name in england and france that was in the catholic church. there is a gold cup that is used in the church called the burnette cup that is used in catholic services.i am not sure but was told this by a frenchman back in the 1970s. maybe this could help you. i have alot of info, stories, amd family names to help you with your searches. i have looked into the name for years but never found what you did and i was amazed. thank you so very much for your time on this. i met elizabeth jane, your aunt by chance last week and we started talking and found we were cousins. i hope this makes it to you and you are welcome to email me at stumpcat57@yahoo.com. thank you again for the time and effort you have put into this. there aren't very many burnettes left on my side of the family and this is something i can hand down to my son and so on and so sn. rueben brown, who is on your list, was a confederate in the civil war who defected to the union. he was captured after the war and hung. i have many stories like that handed down thru the years by ernest and my dad. once again linda, thank you so much for the time you spent to do this. i called your aunt this morning and she can tell you how excited i was. please email me and i will start a list of names and dates to add to your searches. thank you, david

I am trying to find information out about Boyd Dean Burnett and Edith Niper/Napier. I talked with his grandson but all he knew was that he was killed by a gunshot and his wife was Edith Naiper.

Looking on Anecstry I found that Boyd and Edith divorced on Nov 18 1966 in Wake County North Carolina. Also that Boyd was b Jul 22 1939 and died Dec 1974 but that was all I could find. I do not know if he was born in North Carolina but I would assume he was.

I am trying to find if there is a connection between Boyd Dean Burnett and Whitesell Burnett whose daughter Virginia Burnett married Walter Jackson Barbee.

Also looking for information to see if this Niper/Napier line married into the Myatt family as Edith's grandson believes.

Edith passed before 1999.

Boyd might have been born in Lexington NC and died in Alabama.
Not old enough to be online in records. You could try to get a death certificate but you need to know the county. Probably the best way to go is send for the social security application. That would give you his parents' names.
If you know the county, then there would be an obit and funeral home records.

Molly

I know it's been a long time since you posted the message but we share the same family. Somewhere I have a picture of the last time my late husband, Jerry Burnette and I visited your family. Your mother and father, Aunt Myrtie, you and your siblings are all in the photo. Please contact me if you find this message.

Re: possible royal ancestry of Alexander Burnett, laird of Leys

Greetings,

Thank you for posting this information and the documentation about the possible royal ancestry of Alexander Burnett (Burnard). I have been researching the remaining connection descirbed in this thread, between Alexander Forbes and Marjory Stewart. I found a volume by MR, MATHEW LUMSDEN OF TULLIEKERNE, written in 1580 (archived in Princeton University Library). The name of the volume is: "Genealogy of the Family of Forbes." It is written to Right Honourable JAMES OCHONCHAR, LORD FORBES, MEUTENANT-GENERAL OF HIS MAJESXy's FORCES, AND COLONEL OF THE 21 ST REGIMENT OF FOOT, and to the Nobility and Gentry Descended from the Noble House of Forbes. On p.46, I discovered this reference:
"Thomas Forbes, the oy'r son of Alaster cam, called Thorn in the Loch, married Marjorie Stewart, brother's daughter to the Earle of Marr, and heretrix of the Lands o' Echt, who did bear to him 5 sons, viz. Alex, elder, Alex, younger, and John Forbes, called John Ower. Alexander, elder, married to Skeen, sister to Gilbert.

Skeen of that ilk, who did bear to him one son called John
Forbes, with three daughters — one married to Robert Stewart, son to Robert Stewart of Laithers ; ane oy'r to Alex. Morison, and after his deceass, on Donald Shand; the 3d married to Alex. Riock, andyr'after to Aiex. Burnet of Leys."

I am a beginner at this type of research, so I would appreciate any comment regarding the strength of this evidence, if it would be considered evidence, of the relationship between Marjory Stewart and son Alexander Forbes. I also would like to share that, throughout this volume, there are many references to the name Burnet. The volume is a free resource through Google books.

Best wishes,

Dr. Donna Oliva Burnett,
daughter of Donald Burnett (NJ), son of James H. (NJ), son of Wallace A. (NJ), son of Samuel (NJ), son of Samuel, son of Samuel, son of Samuel, son of Samuel, son of Samuel, son of Lot, son of Thomas, son of Thomas, son of Alexander 11th, son of John, son of Alexander, son of Alexander, son of Alexander, son of Alexander, who married Elizabeth Forbes.

I'm searching for information regarding Clarence Howard Burnette, born April 21, 1923, possibly in Kentucky. He married and had two sons; Clarence Howard, Jr., and Tony. In 1955 he lived on Superior Street in Toledo, Ohio, and worked as a welder.

His father's name was William Burnette and the only name I have for his mother is Vivie Jesse. I'd appreciate any information about any of these Burnettes that you could share with me.

Hi Cousin Stephen,

I lost touch with you in 2008/2009. If you are still on RootsWeb, will you please get in touch with me? You can e-mail me at juliacritser@gmail.com. I just found census records on our great-great-grandmother Mattie tonight, along with census records of great-grandad Clarence living in Powell with Mattie's brother, William McClellan and Eliza (who I think was a Sterchi). Thanks!

Julia B. Critser

Mattie McClellan Burnett b. Dec 1868 in TN - looking for spouse, parents?

Hi all,

I've been absent from the boards for a while, but I finally had a breakthrough in my Burnett/McClellan search tonight (which is also why I'm up so late). If anyone has any information related to the following novella, will you please contact me? Thanks in advance for being patient and reading below...

I found my great-great grandmother Mattie McClellan Burnett in the U.S. census records tonight. I knew her name and her children's names thanks to my great-grandmother, her daughter-in-law. The records are confusing and full of misspellings, which has made it really hard. Anyhow, here's what I've found:

Mattie McClellan in 1870 lived in TN, and her parents were Rebecca and H (?) McClellan. She had 2 siblings, "Willie" (b. 1867) later William in records) and Cattie (age 13 at the time).

At some point, Mattie married a Burnett (?) and was widowed. In 1900, Mattie lived in Civil District 8 of Knox, TN, is listed as widowed, and her name was mistakenly transcribed as "Bennett." If you look at the record, there is a line/blot over the last name, making it hard to read. I know it's the same Mattie because a) her children's names & ages match (including my g-grandad) and b) her brother William McClellan and his wife Lisa (later Eliza) were living with her. Children: Clarence, Charlotte, & Mattie.

Mattie died when her kids were still young, and they are listed in the 1910 census as living with their uncle William in Powell, TN, which also matches the family's oral history.

Clarence Albert Burnette Sr's info: b. 13 Jun 1891, d. 18 Jun 1969; m. 28 Jul 1917, in Knox Co. TN, Nell Mae Stevens (b. 13 Nov 18 1896, d. 29 Nov 1986.)

If you have any information related to Mattie, her husband, the eastern TN Burnetts (variously spelled, of course, as Burnette, Burnet, Burnett, Barnet and Barnette) and/or the McClellans, please get in touch! I would love to hear from you.

Thank you,
Julia Burnette Critser

P.S. - I am happy to reciprocate if possible! I have research on the following surnames in eastern TN/western NC: Millsaps, Chapman, Adkins, Harrison, Queener. Thanks again!

Hi Janet. Maybe this might be a lead, maybe not. My Grandfather Earl Milton Burnette had a brother named Luther. My Grandfather was born in N.C.about 1880, but the family migrated to Graysville or Grandview, Tennessee around the 1900's. His Father was Lafayette Lewis Burnette, Mother Deliah Taylor, both born in N.C. Hope this may be a lead for you. Bear Johnson, Michigan

Re: John Burnette and Clarence Albert Burnette, Sr. - Knoxville, TN

Hi Stephen,

Sorry for the late reply here, but my email address changed since the last post I made...and I got married.

We are definitely cousins! Clarence Albert Burnette Sr. was my great-grandad also; his son Clarence Jr. was my grandfather and Richard Lee B. was my dad. Our great-grandmother, Nell May Stephens (Granny Burnette) was very close to my father as she practically raised him, and she lived to be 90 years old, died when I was 12. She was a wonderful character! :)

Yes, our g-grandad was living with the Sterchi family, as both of his parents passed away when he was a child. According to Aunt Betty, who was my grandad's sister, supposedly Clarence Sr.'s dad was a Frenchman with the surname Jointier or Jointuse. There is no truth to this story according to the research I have done. Clarence Sr was born after our great-grandmother married our Burnett great-grandfather. In addition, Granny B never said anything about this Frenchman, and I really do believe that she would have told us; she was always very intent that we know our family history. Aunt Betty told me the story after my grandfather died, and I really have no clue how she got this idea into her head, God rest her soul. I don't have the information at my fingertips right now, but if you want to e-mail me, I can get that to you.

So glad to hear from a cousin!

Julia B.
I am looking for family of Willis Burnette, my grandfather, from Louisburg , NC. Especially Gary Joyner, son of Wayne and Vasti Joyner. I think maybe we were cousins but not sure. We were playmates and he lived next to my Grandfather's farm.
