Hi,
I am sure you have all this information now, but my 5th great grandfather was Gideon Burr 1715-1797. His wife was Hannah Edwards 1713-1773. Your Elizabeth was their daughter and my 4th great aunt. Hannah and Gideon are both buried in the Flatbrook Baptist Church cemetery in Canaan, NY. Possibly Elizabeth is buried there as well? I didn't know her married name when I was there searching headstones.
Maybe you can help me: Elizabeth had a sister Abi Burr 1766-1835. She married a Daniel Allen 1765-1846. They were married at that church in Canaan in 1790. Then when Gideon died in 1797 they moved to Syracuse New York to join her brother (and Elizabeth') Ozias Burr (who became a Judge there). Anyway, I have all but given up trying to find where my 4th great grandfather, Abi's husband, (Major) Daniel Allen came from and who his people were. There are so many Allens in those parts during that time. I think he was from Connecticut.
Hope my info helped and I hope you may have some for me?
Many thanks.
Your very distant cousin,
Kim McLaurin Allen

Burr Family of Wolcott, Wayne County, New York

Hello,

I am looking to see if there is anyone who could perform family research for me in Seneca, Cortland and Wayne Counties in New York. I am looking for the Lewis Cornelius & Mary Cordelia (Carr) Burr family that are found in the 1850 Census in Homer, Cortland County and the 1860 US Census in Wolcott, Wayne County. But both Lewis and Mary Cordelia Burr died before the 1865 Butler Census. All of the children are accounted for living with a son in law Ruben Ward, except one daughter Harriet “Hattie” Burr who is not found on the web page. I am searching so that I can document a connection of Lewis to his father/brother/sisters to complete Daughters of the American Revolution Application.

Search Needs:
1. Documented Connection of Lewis Cornelius Burr to his Father/Mother/brothers/sisters
2. Date of Mary Cordelia Carr Burr’s death
3. Where Lewis and Mary Cordelia Burr were buried
4. Were there any Wills and/or Court Actions involving Lewis or his family
5. Any information on the children of Lewis and Mary Cordelia Burr
6. Where was Hattie Burr in the 1865 census

http://wayne.nygenweb.net/

WARD Reuben 29 male farmer b.
Enjoyed reading your mail! It must be wonderful to live in a place that has housed so many family generations! My BURR ancestors moved all over the place from Vermont into Canada down to Illinois and on down into Texas, but I have other ancestors whose original homes are still standing. As near as we can figure, our BURRs were always farmers, not professionals like some branches, and they shared at least one other trait-one or two in a generation lived to a great age. My own grgrandfather lived to be months shy of 100. At 82, I'm looking forward to it-----Joan

I am also a descendent of the Van Reeds. Levi Van Reed was my maternal great-great grandfather.
We live in the home that Nelson Burr built in 1857. Just down the road from us, the house that John Van Reed built and the house that Levi Van Reed built still stand.

Horatio Burr Will - Allegany County NY Names Dr Theodore Burr

I am trying to find the Dr. Theodore Burr of Battle Creek Michigan as mentioned in this will:
The People of the State of New York: To Eunice Burr, widow of Horatio Burr, deceased, Dorus Burr, Horatio N Burr, James C. Burr, MS Porter, Wife of Horatio Porter all of full age of Allegany County New York, Egbert Burr who resides at Mt Gilea in State of Ohio, Doctor Theodore Burr who resides at Battlecreek State of Michigan, and Merritt Burr residence not known:
"I Horotio Burr of the town of Allen Allegany County State of New York, being of sound mind and memory do make emblish and declare this my last will and testament in manner follwing that is to say: First that all of my just debts and funeral charges expenses be paid. Second I give and devise to my executors herein my farm in the town of Allen of about ninety two acres which was deeded to me by Merritt Burr to be held by them in trust to sell the same within three years of the time of my decease the proceeds thereof to be paid to each two tenths thereof: Saxton Burr, Dorus Burr, Myron H. Burr, James C. Burr to each one tenth thereof to Egbert Burr, Mariella Susan Porter, wife of Horatio Porter, and I do will and devise and bequeath the proceeds of said real estate in the proportion or shares aforesaid. Third I give and devise to my beloved wife Eunice Burr the house and lot where I now reside in Allen which was deeded to me by Edward Crandall to have and to hold the same for and during her natural life except she should marry in which case her estate and interest in said house and lot shall cease and I give and devise the said house and lot subject to the estate created therein my wife to the same persons as I have devised the proceeds of the real estate above mentioned in the same shares and proportions. Also give and bequeth to my said wife the cow I now own or such horse as I shall own at my decease.. "
This wonderful document ties several families together here in Allegany County NY, but does not help me with Theodore, born about 1816 I believe in Tompkins County NY.
Chloe (Burr) Tuttle May 15, 1785 or 1786

I noticed all of the entries in Ancestry of the marriage of Chloe Burr to Henry Roberts in 1805 while doing some housekeeping on my Tuttle family history. I could not find any vital records/church records in CT which documents that marriage. And the well researched "A General History of the Burr Family" does not identify a husband for 417. Chloe

I have hard evidence that the Chloe Burr of the Torrington Vital Records who was born on May 15, 1786 (or 1785 depending upon which year transcription is actually correct) married Truman Tuttle of Litchfield County, CT and they ended up in Huron County, Ohio, along with their 10 children. I do not have a marriage record BUT I have a property record from Huron County, Ohio, in 1836 in which Chloe, as wife of Truman, signs off her dower rights. Ultimately this record led me to discover their family bible which lists the Huron County Chloe as being born on May 15, 1785.

Anyone interested in the details can contact me at jtuttle164@hotmail.com and I will send a pdf of the 4 page Appendix that I have generated to address the issue [cannot attach a pdf within Ancestry].

Jim Tuttle

Burr's of West Virginia (originally from Germany?)

I'm trying to track down the Burr line which is my mothers paternal line. Her father was:

Albert Uhlan "Sparky" Burr, b. 25 Oct 1915 d. 22 Sep 1997
(wife Ruth Virginia Scott Currence)

His father:

Frederick Earle Burr b. 24 Oct 1888 d. Jan 1922
(wife Rachel Bessie Dyer)

His father:

Alvin Jonathan Burr (sometimes his middle name is Jno) b. 8 NOV 1859 d. 20 FEB 1899

All three above was born in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, USA, Alvin's father was born in Rockbridge, Virginia but died in Pocahontas County, WV, his name was:

John Burr b. 1825 d. 2 Nov 1883
(wife Catherine J Moore)

What I have for his father was he was born in Germany and died in Pocahontas County, WV, his name was:

Frederick Burr b. 1796 d. 1854

and his father was possibly also named Frederick Burr

This is as far as I can trace this line back, does ANYONE out there have more information about this line? I can't imagine where to get additional information, and I suspect something may be wrong since I can't trace it further than this.

Read the two volume series on Aaron Burr by Milton Lomask. If I remember correctly, he mentions that Aaron, in his later years, was paying "child support" and paying for the education of a few children. The implication was that these represeted illegitimet children, who, later may have taken his surname.

Elspet (Elsie) Burr and John Aitken - Aberdeenshire, Scotland

John Aitken was born in about 1884 in Methlick, ABD, the son of John Aitken and Rachel Cardno.

He married Elspet (Elsie) Burr at 18 Nellfield Place in Aberdeen on 15 December 1906. The witnesses were James Hector Aitken and Jeannie M Burr.

Elsie was born in Tyrie in 1878 (although her marriage registration suggests she was born in about 1882). She was the daughter of James Burr and Margaret Kynoch.

Prior to her marriage to John Aitken, Elsie had a son (father unknown), Charles Burr, born in Bridge Street, Strichen on 29 October 1902

Elsie died in the Epidemic Hospital, Strichen on 25 June 1910.

John (aged 26) is recorded in the 1911 census in West Street, Strichen. He was a railway porter. Listed in his household were his stepson, Charles Burr (aged 8), and his son (presumably by Elsie), John Aitken (aged 1).

I am keen to know what happened to John Aitken (snr), Charles Burr and John Aitken (jnr)

Rob Burr

Canberra, Australia

rajburr@westnet.com.au

My maiden name is Burr and I am in Maryland. Do you mean Ezra and Mary Burr? If so, they were my great grandparents.
They were the parents of William H. Burr who married Cora Godwin. These are my paternal grandparents.

Hannah Burr married to Thomas Hyatt

Searching for information re: Hannah Burr who married Thomas Hyatt IV (1714-1782) in Ridgfield, CT circa 1742. Almost all trees for her are unsourced. Most trees give her parents as Jehu Burr and Sarah (perhaps Nash). Am seeking to connect Hannah to the Jehu Burr who came to Mass. Bay in 1630. Seeking to verify names of parents or to know where those who have her on their trees got information re: her parents, marriage, etc. May have died 1789 and had 10 children. Thanks for assistance or input!
