Thanks so much for responding. I am also a descendant of Anna and Emmanuel. They are my mother's grandparents through John Ross[Anna's first son] so that would make them my great-grandparents. The fact that Anna divorced explains why Emmanuel is alone in one of the census I found.

Unfortunately, the families were not close.
Do you know the names of Anna's parents? or any other information on her? I would like to be able to tell my mom about her family before she passes away.

Do you have any other information on John McRae? like his parents? this part is not really important, just genealogical in nature

If you would like to communicate privately, you can write to dospanish@hotmail.com.
Thank you

I am a descendant of of Anna Bogardus and Emanuel Burrill. They would be my 2nd great garandmother and 2nd great grandfather. According to my grandpa, Anna and Emanuel divorced and she remarried John McRae. I couldn't find any documentation on John and Anna but it does fill in the story a little.

Looking for information on Thomas Burrill (think middle initial may have been J.) Was married to Luthera Wendell and resided in Minden (Fort Plain) Montgomery County, New York in 1850.

They had a very young son named Charles.

Burrill's mother's name was Elizabeth.

Apparently Thomas did not live for very long after 1850 because Luthera remarried a photographer by the name of Jonathan Allen, moving to New York City.

Any information would be most welcome.

I am looking for information on the Burrill family from Yorkshire - in particular a Jane Burrill (abt 1700-1764) a daughter born to William Burrill. Jane married Christopher Hebden in 1727, Christopher was born in Grantley, Yorkshire, where he was a blacksmith and a yeoman, so the marriage probably would have been around that area. Jane and Christopher had two sons, Christopher (1728) and William (1731).

Any information on Jane or William would be much appreciated - I have an extensive descendant tree that am more than happy to share!

W.H. Burrill, Rockland, Maine

I don't have any connection to this family but found this while doing other research. I am posting hundreds of these “blurbs” because I believe it helps to see our ancestors as people rather than just names and dates and, in some cases, it helps to place where our ancestors were during a certain period of time.

This entry is from the Rockland, Maine Courier-Gazette of December 11, 1872 in the "City and Other Items" column:

"FIRE - The store at Blackington's Corner, owned by Isaac Orbeton and occupied by W.H. Burrill as a confectioner's store and a harness-makers's (sic) shop, took fire in the upper part last Saturday evening a little after nine o'clock. Mr. Burrill had but just left his store and reached home when the alarm was given, the fire then having broken out the roof. The stock of goods was removed. The building had the roof burnt off and was badly damaged. It is an old affair, and not very valuable. Fortunately the engine assigned to that portion of the city, was taken there on Saturday, and was standing very near where she was wanted for service on this occasion. The boys set to work with a will, and it is believed the timely presence of the engine prevented the destruction of Mr. John Brown's house and possibly his store. Stock insured $1800 at Cochran's Agency."
We have direct ancestors: Thomas Burrill b 1825 Stonebeck Down, Yorks, and his cousin Susannah Burrill b 1820 Bishop Thornton, who were second cousins, married in 1849.
After the death of her husband Thomas, in 1866, Susannah & her children moved to Leeds, then on to Australia. Susannah emigrated in 1881, to Sydney Austrailia with children: Peter, Joseph, Sarah, and Susannah. They ended up settling in Balmain, Sydney New South Wales.
Her children Thomas, Richard, John Richard, and William stayed in England. the children Peter & Joseph were cabinet makers there, and the girls Sally & Susannah were dressmakers. Susannah the mother died there, in Balmain, soon after they arrived in Australia, on Sept 9, 1886.
Any connections or links out there?

Ron & Kris Burrill
Michigan, USA
Kris, I don't know where Henry father of George came from, there were a large contingent of Burri(e)lls in the Richmond area from the 1600's onwards so it may be he came from them.
Joseph who married Jane Stirk Wilberforce was the son of Richard and Ann Long, therefore the nephew of your Thomas of Colthouse and my John of Longside
1851 in Raskelf with Ann Leonard his first wife (she died in 1858) and Mary Ann aged 1, an Ag lab next door to Christopher Leonard,26, also an Ag Lab
1861 publican and farmer with jane and family including William
1871 farmer in Easingwold at the White Horse Inn
fined 1shilling for allowing a horse to stray on the road in 1879
declared bankrupt in 1877, of white horse inn, farmer and straw dealer.
Donna I am sorry but I know very little else about this family, It would appear that George was still alive in 1812 if it says wife not widow, although he could have left her I suppose. Georges brother Henry married and had a daughter Mary Ann in 1824 and sister Ann born 1786 married William Walton in 1808 in Bedale so they definitely had family links around the area.
If I come across anything else I will post it
Sheila

Thank you SO much. I suspected Henry (1742) and Phyllis but didn't have a last name for Phyllis. Do you have these people in your tree? I have located a link under eastriding.gov.uk where Removal Orders from St. Mary's Beverley notes "Mary Burrell wife of George Burrell, Henry and George her children, 9 Jun 1812." I'm not quite sure what that means unless she was now a widow and moved away with an oldest child (probably Henry is the child born in Hornby?) and the youngest. Do you have a DOD of Mary's husband, George 1778?

Do you show the parents of Henry to be John Burrell and Margarete Grove? They were supposedly born in Massachusetts USA - perhaps that's where my disconnect is, one of the Burrells went back to England after a generation or two were in Massachusetts.

Donna, I have George as the son of Henry Burrill and Phyllis Holmes who married in 1767 in Patrick Brompton, they had John 1768, Margaret 1772, Henry 1774, George 1778 and Ann 1786 all bapt at Hornby by Bedale. George as you say married Mary Carter and they had a son at Hornby in July 1799 before, if you have the correct one, they moved to Beverley
Sheila

I have a family of Burrills from Yorkshire that I've been unable to tie to any other family. Do any of these names seem familiar?:

George (born possibly around 1778) married Mary Carter on 7 April 1799 in Bedale, Yorkshire, England.

Children:
1802 John Burrel, at Saint Mary and Saint Nicholas, Beverley, Yorkshire, England
1804 George Borrell, at Saint Mary and Saint Nicholas, Beverley, Yorkshire, England
1807 Mary Ann Burrell, at Saint Mary and Saint Nicholas, Beverley, Yorkshire, England
1810 Margaret Burrill, at Saint Mary and Saint Nicholas, Beverley, Yorkshire, England
1812 June 11 George Borrell (my 3d GG), at Saint Mary and Saint Nicholas, Beverley, Yorkshire, England
Batch No. C106583

1812 George emigrated to Canada probably 1832 and eventually settled in Iowa via Rochester, New York.

The family name in America has always been Burrill but all the variants in spellings shown above are from the IGI.

There is a Lynn, Massachusetts family named Burrill who were early settlers in America. My grandmother thought her Burrill family were related, but I've been unable to find a match, especially since my 3d GG was born in England in 1812 and the Lynn, Massachusetts family were here from the early 1600's. A Burrill may have gone back to England from Massachusetts, or I could have two completely separate families.

If you have any information or suggestions, I'd be most appreciative.

Donna Toole
Hi M...
Thank you for writing! I have never known anything about our Christianna's husband, but suspected he was related...maybe a cousin of some degree. Christianna's family was from Ireland also and her brother's were also weavers and brought their looms to Canada (my GGGgrandfather..James "Jimmie" Francis, born 1784 in Co. Armagh) and to the US (my GGGUncle...Elisha Francis, born about 1775 in Ireland, unknown county). I have Christianna's husband Jonathan Francis born about 1775 in Mile Cross, Co. Down, Ireland. My "source" was the book written by Dr. Thomas Jonathon Burrill called "A Boyhood Biography", said to have been written after 1867, which I just found in my "source" notes in my database.

Are you a relative of Jonathan or Christianna? Or the Burrill family? I am not directly related to the Burrill's, only by the marriage of Christianna's daughter Mary to John Burrill.
Donna T.
in Oregon

The "Burrill book" I grew up with was about 7 by 9 inches and 1/2 inch thick. My father, Warren, always called it the "Blue Book", from the color of the cover. I believe my sister has the actual book. I don't remember the author being a Dr. Thomas (my grandfather was Thomas, but he didn't write the book, nor was he a doctor).

mary Francis' father had a book store in Newport RI. He was a weaver by trade and was born near Belfast IRE, probably of French Hugenot (protestant) descent. My guess the family fled France about 1685 when the Edict of Nantes was lifted and presecution of protestants was resumed...legally.

The Francis family lived near the Emery's and Burrills.

I have checked census records and found that this family was colored or black , while the Burrill line I
have been looking at is white. None of the records of Page
county, Virginia that I have looked at show any evidence of
mixing of the 2 family lines. Both marriages took place in Thompson, CT.

No doubt, John and Sarah had additional children, but so far I have not located them.

Any connection to the Burrills in England would be marvelous to find.
