For Samuel L Burrington, the mother of his children born before 1855 was CELIA Raymond; the mother of those born after 1855 was SARAH Raymond, her sister. Information included in the original post on Celia's death and these children's birth years is contradictory.

You must be referring to Jonathan Burrington, Jr. He was married to Arena (Irena or Irene) Fairbanks. I found substantial help at http://www.heirmonger.com/BURRINGTON.html and was able to connect this tree to our family. One of Jonathan's children was Henry Hudson Burrington, a noted chemist (pharmicist) in the mid 1800's, famous for "Burrington's Vegetable Croup Syrup." My husband is descended from Henry Hudson's brother, Frank Samuel.

Please let me know if you received more info on Herbert/Hubert. Here is what I have on Herbert's father Wilbur Burrington's line; corresponds well with your info. If you want the rest of the Burringtons, from Ebenezer in 1740s CT to the present in Green Co, WI, contact me at ajones1001@hotmail.com

Wilbur/Wilber N. Burrington, b 1837 in Conneaut, Ashtabula Co, OH (or PA according to one family member). Migrated to WI with mother Lydia (father Edward's death place & date unknown), and with three brothers Reuben, Lewis and Perry in mid-1860s. Wilbur continued to Hancock, MN and possibly Nebraska. In 1870 census in Rice Co, MN; in 1880 census as William and Mary in Forest, Rice Co, MN (see note below); in 1900 census with wife Mary. Possibly died in 1913, near Hancock, MN, according to family sources; buried Bumiggie, MN. In 1880 census listed as William and Mary Burrington with children below and mother-in-law Catherine Prunk.

Wife Mary Prunk, b. about 1842 in IL, parents Daniel Prunk & Catherine Hammond; married 1865 in Tiskilwa, IL. Discrepancies about children in various sources. List below corresponds to 1880 census.

-Ida K. Burrington, born 1870 in MN.
-Oscar H. Burrington, born 1872 in MI; died 1938 in MN; in Stevens, MN in state census 1895. Possibly married to Cora.
-Clementina "Minnie" A. Burrington, born 1874 in MN.
-Wilbur N. Burrington, born 1876 in MN. Possibly William/Wilbur Nelson Jr.
-Jessie Hurlow Burrington, born 1878 in MN
-Herbert/Hubert Burrington, born 1879 in MN; abandoned family by 1910; children raised by relative of wife Mary.
Wife Mary Geise b 1879 NY; parents possibly from Prussia acc to FamilySearch.org. Herbert & Mary's children: Lila Burrington, b 1899 in MN; Virrell Burrington (son), b about 1903 in MN; Lillian Burrington, b about 1903 in MN. Mary later remarried a Miller.
-Rosa/Rosetta Burrington, born 1881 in MN
-Mary Agnes Burrington, born 1885 in MN.
-Chauncey Irving Burrington. “Chancy” in 1900 census in Meeker, MN.
-Amy Belle Burrington. “Belle” in 1900 census in Meeker, MN.
- Possibly also a Wallace Burrington, though several sources cite only 10 children.
Edward Burrington, b abt 1805 in VT, son of Ammi Burrington & Cinda Hicks. Siblings Hulda, Philander Rensselaer, Lucinda. Edward married Lydia Merritt, also b VT, in 1825 in VT. Went west to Crawford Co, PA abt 1836. Parents settled next door in Erie Co, PA, where father Ammi died about 1849. In 1860 census, Edward & Lydia and five children are still in PA. By 1865, Lydia and four sons--Reuben, Lewis, Wilbur, Perry--had migrated to Green Co, WI. Unclear whether they traveled together or at different times, and whether Edward died in PA or went west with them. No official record of his presence or death in Green Co, WI. Daughter Amanda returned to VT and married there.

Reuben was discharged from Civil War in 1865, and first Burrington real estate transaction in WI is by Reuben in 1865. Lewis settled nearby. Both died in Green Co. Wilbur continued to MN. Perry went further north in WI.

Please contact me with any further info:
ajones1001@hotmail.com

In an old family bible i have an inscription that reads: to Helen G Burrington on the eve of her marriage - October 3, 1877.
I beleive this is my ggggrandmother as my ggrandmother (Grace R Thompson's) mothers maiden name was Burrington.

They lived in Michigan but i don't see any other posts in relations to Burrington's in Michigan. If this name/person sounds familiar please let me know!
Thanks.

I hadn't gotten very far into the Burrington genealogy because I was primarily interest in the Brunton side of the family. Your information is very interesting, and it give's me another path to follow. You mention Jaggers in your family. My husband has a Catherine Jagger(s) in his family who was born in 1792 in New Jersey and married to Alexander Montgomery in Cumberland County, New Jersey Dec. 19, 1811. The record of the marriage exists, but no one seems able to come up with her parents. Do you know of any possibilities?

I've spent a great deal of time searching for information about this Thomas Burrington, due to connection with the Jagger family. If you know Thomas' origins, I would love to have more info. Do you know of a relationship to Geo.? Burrington who was governor of, I believe, NC?

I have Sabella Burrington (b. Boston, 1697)married to John Jagger, both buried in Boston. Oddly, there is a New York will,of John Jagger "late of the Bay of Honduras" (Belize), mentioning his wife, Sabella.

If I have made the right connections, Sabella was previously married to William Jones, and had children Basil, Burrington, William and Deborah. There was another Thomas Burrington, b. Boston, 1693, son of Thomas. Thomas Burrington d. Savannah, Georgia, and married Katy Reid in 1751. Thomas and Katy had Elizabeth (m. Edward Thomas) and
another Thomas.
I have no proof that these are all of the same family, but the names are unique enough to be fairly confident.

There is a Georgia will, 1761, John Jagger, which mentions the children of Basil and Margaret Jones of "Mosketor Shore" (Mosquito Shore) and which closely locates his property in Belize. Modern day Belize has a town named Basil Jones, allegedly named for a hero of Rev. days who warned the residents of the approach of the enemy.

The executors in the Georgia will are really historically significant and highly interesting people. I haven't been able to connect the John Jagger(s) to the rest of the Jagger family, but a google search on the other names mentioned is really fascinating. I hope others can help make connections. I recently found, on Ancestry.com, a fairly new resource which is "Anglo Americans in Spanish Archives", Feldman, 1991, mentioning Basil Jones as a resident of Belize in 1787. The Spanish archives are beyond my means, but I wonder what other info about the family might be contained - Spain ruled Mississippi, parts of Florida, etc., so who knows.

I have begun to have doubts that the Jagger family from Jeremiah is a line continuously living and born in America, but that is just a hunch.

I have also read that some Burringtons adopted "Purrington" or "Purinton" spelling. Also one claim that Thomas Burrington was really Thomas Barrington. Whew!

Burrington - Burington Family Association

I have a directory put out in 1982 for a Burrington - Burington Family Association. It lists a little genealogy (very little, perhaps a couple paragraphs of the earlies settlers) and they refer to a History Book committee. Does anyone know if this family association is still in existence and if they ever put a family history book together? I would appreciate any information anyone has about this.

Yes, as the death of both Content and Tempernace Burrington are listed in the Colrain deaths online at the New England Historical and Genealogy Site I would tend to believe that they are 2 separate people.

But the fact that both were the same age and both in Colrain makes me wonder if they could be the same person.

In an6y case I'll keep on looking and poking at records.

Lee

Lee, from "Vital Records of Rhode Island, 1636-1850", by James N. Arnold:

Content Butts was married to Daniel Burrington, of William, on May 30, 1790 by Elder William Bliss in Portsmouth, R.I.

Sally Burrington , of Daniel and Content, was born November 12, 1790 in Portsmouth, R.I.

Daniel Burrington was born in Portsmouth, R.I on August 27, 1759

At the public library in Colrain, MA I found a genealogy that included:

Daniel Burrington, son of William and Sarah (Lake), b. 1759; d. Colrain, Sept. 27, 1827; m. Temperance Butts, who d. Apr. 27, 1844, a. 73. Both bu. Christian Hill.

Children of Daniel and Temperance (Butts);
Ebenezer
Antail
Reliffe (Relief)
Robert b. 1796
Daniel Jr., b. Nov 20, 1798
Tempie, b. 1803; d. Sept. 3, 1804 , bu. Christin Hill

Curiously, this genealogy doesn't mention Content. I could find no records of the marraige of Daniel and Temperance nor the birth of Temperance in Colrain or Rhode Island.

The different days of death would tend to dismiss the possibility of Content and Tempernace being the same person but then again............

I am looking for any background information anyone might have on a Content Burrington who died 5 Nov 1844 at age 73 yrs in Colrain, Massachusetts a pauper and had palsey.

Questions was she married and to who, did she have any children? Was she related to a Temperance Butts Burrington widow of Daniel Burrington who died 27 Apr 1844 age 73 years in Colrain Massachusetts.

Both of the above deaths are from Western Massachusetts early vitial records for Colrain.

I have found the grave stones of Daniel and Temperance Burrington where the info matches the records, I also found a marrage record for Content Butts to Daniel Burrington.

sign me confused.

Lee

Correction to my previous reply. I confused Chandler Hill Cemetery and Christiam Hill Cemetery locations in Colrain.

Christain hill is easy to see and just down the road south from the 2nd Baptist Church, beyond the intersection.

Lee

I am interested in the Thomas Burrington who settled in Maine or New Hampshire in the late 1600's. He was master on the Barque Speedwell. His wife was possibly Lydia, children: Joanna, John, Thomas Sebellah and Lydia. There may be another wife Rebecca, or there is a missing generation. Daughter Lydia married Thomas Brunton.

Christian Hill Cemetery in Colrain is rather hard to see from the road, I found it very late last fall after snow fall. I don't remember the road names but it was located at at T in road and midway down a hill. There are some stones left but many are hard to read. I seem to rember seeing a BURRINGTON stone.

I expect to go back to that way for research this summer, if there is a specfic stone or stones you would like info on let me know at cleewarriner@yahoo.com and I'll try to find it and take a digital photo. I also plan on visting the Brick Schoolhouse Cemetery at the same time. same offer there

Lee
