Graves Found-Descendants of Abram Cade Busby

To all:

I have found the graves of my ggrandfather Daniel Boone BUSBY and his second wife Winnie BUSBY (RADCLIFF) thanks to a very kind man in Elk County, Kansas who walked the cemeteries during the Memorial Day Weekend.

Daniel Boone BUSBY is the son of Abram Cade BUSBY b. 1826 KY and Susannah LEACH. Abram Cade is the son of Matthew BUSBY b. 1790 Bowling Green, Warren, KY and Susannah RITCHEY.

The following is a transcription of the email Mr. Dan Durbin sent me:

"Over Memorial Day week-end, I walked the Busby cemetery. It is not large, so was not that time-consuming. I did not find any headstones for Busby's.

For a bit of history according to the book ELK COUNTY, A NARRATIVE HISTORY, the town of Busby was originally named Amy. In January, 1885, it was changed to Busby, probably in honor of Ruben Busby who was a blacksmith and one of the early settlers there.

At some point, Ruben and his family moved to Oak Valley, about 15 miles to the SE. Chances are there might be some Busby's buried there.

During my trip, I also visited the Weakley Cemetery which is a couple miles SE of New Albany, Ks. As the crow flies it is only about 10-12 miles NE of the Busby area. It is larger than the one at Busby, and I did not walk it as thoroughly. I did find 3 Busbys. One was Chester F. Busby, b.April 27, 1887 and d. Feb. 22, 1909. The other 2 appear to be a husband/wife. They are Minnie E., b.1872, d. 1944 and Daniel, b.1861, d. 1937."

Last note* It is possible that the Ruben mentioned above is another son to Matthew BUSBY. His son Reuben (as spelled in census) was born 1836 in Indiana.

QUESTION: Does anyone know if this family line ties in with Daniel BOONE? The place and times are right. It is my understanding that one of Daniel's relatives married a BUSBY.

I will continue to post new information as it becomes available from Mr. Durbin.

Cheers
Diana Busby-Knight
Oregon

I'll look in Falls Co, TX as you suggested. I have almost no documentation on my Busby family. It is all speculation. I have found him on a few resources, but can not be sure it is him. Busby can be spelled and even misspelled in so many ways. I have tried many ways, but still can't really nail them down. Any more ideas? Let me know if you find anything. Thanks so much
~Tina

Tina,
Have you tried looking in Falls Co TX and surrounding TX counties? My VA, KY & MO Busby families left around 1850's and came here to TX. I think some others from the VA line left for NC/SC/AL, as well.

Some of those Southeastern Busbys were probably related to my KY/MO Busbys mentioned above.

Paula

Carla,
In a 05-17-00 message you mentioned a that a Pearl Busby married a Homer Busby. If Pearl maiden name is Pearl Albert Laughlin and if Homer was a veterinanian then they are my grandmothers parents. Sylvia Elnora (Busby) Maloy born 12-09-1893 in Oklahoma Indian territory. Sylvia married Arthur Pete Maloy. They had two children, Mary Thelma (Maloy) Supernaw and Dan Rushing Maloy. Dan was my father. If you have any information concerning either the Busby family or the Maloy family please let me know. Thankyou.
Homer

Sarah Ann was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Cripliver)Norrick. Sarah Ann brother Jacob Norrick was my 2nd great grandfathers. We know very little about your A. Jackson Busby.

We are documenting the Norrick and Cripliver family trees but would like to learn more about A.
Have you tried checking the 1920 census? If he was born in 1913, as you indicated, he would show as abt. a 7 year old child in the 1920 census. Check the Busbys in the area where he was born. How about a birth certificate? I have Busby ancestors in WV & IN going back into the 1700's. Good luck.

Hi,
My father's family name is Busby. They live in Mississippi, and i am told that they moved to that area after slavery from North CArolina. That information may or may not be accurate.

We are dececendants of Larry Busby who married a Louvenia Shaw. They had eight children; Jim, willie, robert, joe cathon, roseanna carrie and Ida.

Larry's son Willie, my greatgrand father, was born in 1877. He married a Mary Gates. I am told that she appeared to be other than black and had very fair skin and long hair.

Anyway, John Busby was my grandfather. He died about four years ago at the age of 96.

I am hoping to find other relatives outside of Mississippi, perhaps still residing in the CArolinas.
