I have just finished watching her movie and was just snooping around the web and stumbled across this thread. I can always ask my grandmother we are very close even though i live in the U.S and she the U.K.

Hi Tania,

I believe I may be your second cousin once removed as my Grandfather Richard Francis was Violette's cousin. My Mum has a photograph of your mother. Sadly I don't have any knowledge of Etienne Szabo. I am keen to find out more about the Bushells if you are willing to share, as I remember my Great Grandmother well.

Kind Regards

Katherine

Bushell, Beers in Mason County Washington

My family history says my grandfather, Curtis Beers, homesteaded the "old Bushell place" in Dayton Township, Mason County, Washington. Does anyone recognize this reference or are you perhaps related to any Bushells who may have lived in Mason County between say, 1850 to 1885. My grandfather lived there about 1885 to 1895 before moving back to Michigan and later to Tripp Co, So. Dak. Please get it touch if you have any Bushell information. I have no first names, just the surname and do not know if the spelling is right or not.

John Bushell and Elizabeth Read

It seems my Great Grandfather, John Bushell, married again in 1923 after his wife, Harriet Knight, died in 1922. His new wife was a 44 year old widdow called Elizabeth Read, and on the marriage certificate it gives her father as Walter Trist, a bricklayer. Despite having quite a large family archive of letters, scrap books and photographs, it was not until a relative got in touch recently and mentioned the name from a will that we were aware of this marriage. I have tried to find her through the usual links, but no luck. Can anyone out there help?

Henry Peter Bushell

Seeking genealogy information concerning Henry Peter Bushell, who married my g-g-grandmother Eliza Maria Barber Gordon, in Victoria, Australia, in 1853. They had two (2) children, Eliza Maria Bushell, b. 1855, Victoria, AU, d. 1858, Victoria, AU; Henry John Bushell, b. 1857, Victoria, AU, d. 1858, Victoria, AU. Eliza Maria's first husband was Joseph Gordon. Their son, Jesse Barber Gordon, b. 1849, Twickenham, England, d. 1896, Victoria, BC, Canada, was my g-grandfather.

Was Eliza Maria's second husband, Henry Peter Bushell, the same Henry Peter Bushell, who was born to Joseph and Emma Bushell, c. 1813, in London, England? And who married an Amelia Alice ? and who had a son Henry Peter Bushell, b. 1841, bapt. 1845, London, England? This Henry Peter Bushell, b. 1841, is listed in the 1851 England census, with his mother Amelia Hewson and step-father Henry Hewson. His father Henry Peter Bushell, b. 1813, is not to be found. ???

Is Eliza Maria's second husband, Henry Peter Bushell, the same Henry Peter Bushell, who married again in 1864 to Catherine Byrne in Victoria, AU. Is he also the Henry Bushell that died in Victoria, AU, in 1869.

Eliza Maria Barber Gordon Bushell, is listed as a "widow" in 1861 England census while on the ship S. S. Norman heading from Plymouth, England, to Natal, South Africa. She is listed in the 1871 England census as a "widow" and is also listed as a "vistor" with the Standering family in London, England. She died in London in 1881 and is interred in the All Saints Cemetery, in Hertford, England.

If the Henry Peter Bushell, b. 1813, is the same Henry Peter Bushell, who married Eliza Maria in Australia in 1853, why did he go there? Also, why did Eliza Maria go Australia and let her sister Sidney Jane Barber raise her son Jesse Barber Gordon (my g-grandfather)???

Please help me sort out the Henry Peter Bushells.

Les

Hello, thank you for replying, it's funny to think we could be related. I am looking for information about the Bushell line that emigrated from the UK to Canada and then to the USA. My ancestor Stephen Bushell, was listed in a Census as born around 1806 or 1808 in Canada, and that both of his parents were Canadian. Do you know if there was a wave of immigration in the late 1700's because if he was born in 1806 in Canada, his parents must have emmigrated in the 1700's. Am searching through records to try and find his birth record in Canada to find out his parents names to continue the search. Any information would be helpful. Have read that Bushells come from Kent? Best wishes

Hello, got as far back as Stephen Bushell born 1806 or so in Canada, passed away sometime after 1880 in the USA. Married Mary Filian. Would love help connecting the dots to the UK. Have had trouble accessing Canadian records.
Birth record or Canadian census may show parents names & possibly UK origin.

My ancestors were from Dover in the late 18th century and then almost exclusively from Ramsgate until the late 19th century, when the direct line moved to Preston (Faversham.

There seem to have been two distinct lines of Bushells - one based around Ramsgate and the other around Wicambreux. Has anyone else noticed this distinction?
Yes Sir!

Cecilia married a John A. Power while the family lived in Malden, Massachusetts. Later, Cecilia moved to New Jersey. I have a picture of them from the 1950's.

John Bushell, the eldest son of Joseph had chidren, one of which was Edward Bushell. He was a LAwyer and Alderman in Malden for many years. (He also had a bit part in the movie "the Brinks Job" starring Peter Falk. He played the sentencing judge). He also visited Ireland to see Joe just before he died. He also visited Ireland sometime in the 1950's.

One of my uncles, Edward J Buckley, also visited Ireland. He was one of Annie A (Bushell) Buckley's nine children. He did a bed and breakfast tour by car. He said he met either an elderly Bushell or a descendant who recalled the family in the 1980's or early 1990's.

I will contact you by email. My email is fredlonsdale@gmail.com . It will take me a little bit to get organized, but I will send you all the details I can find. I am looking forward to adding another generation to the Bushell tree.

Interesting:

"Also Joseph emigrated to the States where he had a family including a son John and daughter Cecilia, before returning to Ireland as an elderly man, after his wife had passed..."

My Great Grandfather was Joseph Bushell born about 1850 or 1849. He married a Jane Cook. He lived in Roscommon. His oldest son was John. He also had Bridget, Ellen, Maryjane and Patrick all born in Roscommon. They arrived in the US in 1879 and then had Annie A, Cecelia and Loretta. Joe's wife dies about 1919. Joe returned to Ireland and died in 1937. Annie A was my grandmother.

It was said thet Jane was born Protestant and converted to Catholic. She may have been born in another county.

If you think My Joe might be your Joe, drop me a line. I sure woulf like to extend my tree.

Hi Sean
Have had a read and found this 2nd message of yours, have replied to the other one you sent this week. I dont know if you ever had any contact with Tom Bushell, but sadly he passed away a couple of years ago. He knew a lot more about the Bushells than I did, but we kept in contact and met up quite a few times over a 3 or 4 year period before he passed away. It turned out that my grandmother and his father where cousins and our Bushells came from Ireland to Australia in the 1850 or 60s. It is fanstastic that you are a Bushell and still in Ireland. Did you know of Maureen Metcalf?? Please email me at thommo26@bigpond.net.au
Cheers Kim

Hi Sean
Have you read all our posts?
It is a few years since I have had a search of our Bushells and I wish Tom was still with us as he was quite up with it all too, but I am in Australia and this is where Martin Bushell migrated to in the year 1864, ??? ( I am writing all this from memory, I do have it all written down but this is a rough copy) He was a son of Patrick Bushell and Margaret Burke/Bourke. Martin also had a brother Michael that came to Australia and he married Mary Mugavin. Martin and Michael came from Ennistymon in County Clare Ireland. We never did find out any more about Patrick Bushell in Ireland. There was a Maureen Metcalf who was still alive about 3 years ago that was the last line that we knew of still in Ireland, Hope all this helps you, let me know if theres anything else I can help with
Cheers Kim
