I am in search of info for Eulalio Bustamante, born 1870 in Mexico married to Maria de Jesus Gonzales about 1897. I have been unable to find any info for him after 1910 where I find him and his family in Brewster Co, Texas per the 1910 US Census. I would love to find his date and place of death and the name of his parents. This is for my fiance's family tree. Any information shared will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Shawn Peyton

Hi,

I'm Pedro Bustamante III, son of Pedro Bustamante II from San Sebastián (Basque Country) and grandson of Pedro Bustamante I from Laredo in Cantabria, Spain. This is the place where the name Bustamante originated from.

I'm also the owner of the domain BUSTAMANTE.COM which I have not used for anything since I registered it in 1995. I have long thought about what to do with this domain and after 16 years without using it other than for my personal email address, I think the best use is for other Bustamante's around the world to have their own personalized email mailbox "firstname@bustamante.com".

You can now get your own personalized yourname@bustamante.com email mailbox by just visiting http://www.bustamante.com. There's a small fee for each mailbox to help pay for the server hosting and the domain registration fees.

Cheers,
Pedro Bustamante

He died on the anniversary of him and my mom's wedding, and my aunt's b-day. It is pretty crazy, considering I was born on his birthday. Anyhow, I would love to hear from you too. He has/had a brother Frankie in Colorado. Unfortunately, I've lost touch with that side of the family. Do any of those names sound familiar to you?

My father Antonio Bustamante confessed to us of a son that he had while in the service. He was in the Army as a paratrooper 101st and 82nd airborne. He did mention that he married a lady who was in the service and her family disapproved of them together because she was white and my dad was Hispanic. Her family was very high ranking in the service. He had a son in the 1960's named after him.. If you have any information please respond back. My lost brother should be in his 40's.

I think we may be related. My mother Josephine Bustamate Zuniga had a brother named Juan Bustamante who lived in the Roswell New Mexico area married to Ambrosia Bustamante who had approximately 10 children. I met Juan on maybe one or two occassions as a young child and have met some of his children. Charolette I think being the oldest daughter lives in Alburquerque New Mexico. I heard rumor that one of the male kids was a State Trooper in New Mexico and had this fact confirmed through my cousin Gilbert Periera whose mother Theresa is sister to Juan. Please call me at 936-714-1839 to discuss more. Adios!

David E. Zuniga

I'm sorry but I know nothing of the Bustamante side of my family before they came to the US in 1896. Ignacio Bustamante died in 1901 of pneumonia in Los Angeles at the age of 42. He was born about 1858 and married Brigida Garcia born abt 1874. They had four daughters, the oldest Francisca Bustamante Miranda, my great-grandmother. She died in Paramount, CA in 1963. Her daughter, Mary Bridget Miranda Garcia, my paternal grandmother, died in 2001.

All I was ever told was that they came from Sonora. I am desperately trying to find out about my mexican heritage from Mexico. My Mexican-Spanish heritage is well documented in history as they were the founders of the California territory in the 1750's.

If you know anything, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the long delay. I started a new job last December 1, 2008, so I haven't been on for a long time.

Thanks,

Gina Garcia Brock

Hi Sonia, Let me know if you don't get to the website because I can somehow get the info to you. Thank you for the info. I was pretty sure that Tio Salomon only had Billy and I had heard that she was raising other children, I didn't know them but then I got that profile and it said they were his. It is so nice talking to you. Yes, tio Salomon was a very happy person, always cracking jokes. I just finished sending another cousin Lydia Torres pictures of your grandpa and one of your dad when he was about five or six. It looks like a school picture. Your grandpa lived with Salomon's brother Boni and his wife Ruth. They loved him alot. And all of Frank's brothers and sisters did too. I don't think I can send you pictures over Message Board but maybe if You give me your email address I can send you some. Did you ever meet your grandpa's mother Beartice? Lydia Torres was a cousin who didn't know the Bustamantes here. Her Grandpa Juan Maria (Tio Salomon's oldest brother died when he was 3o in a mining accident. We have been writing back and forth and sending info back and forth. I feel she is happy knowing that there are other cousins who care about them. After their grandpa died the family was kind of lost from us. Now I had never met your dad but I had heard about him from the family. He died very young too. I heard he died in a car accident. We are your cousins and we live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We would love to hear from you.

Well, my grandma died before my dad...a long long long time ago. Two years apart. My grandpa was on his own for a long time. Actually, I don't call her grandma...do I am not sure were that came from...lol. I call her nana...don't even think of grandma when I think of her. But I do have a grandma living on my mom's side...lol.

Just to note: my grandpa out both of them by over 20 years. He lived for us...so he said. And of course this was his reason. He was dire to see us get married and have kids. Unfortunately, neither one of us has had any kids or gotten married. He died in 2004.

My grandfather was amazing. The two Bustamantes that I really, really knew where my grandfather and my father. They both loved to joke. My grand father would joke and love unconditionally. I have to be proud and say, he is one of the most amazing men I have had the honor of having in my life. It didn't matter if he was alone, it life got crazy, if people treated him bad because of his age...he was always laughing, throwing jokes and loving everyone. He did this til the moment he died.

I wonder how the other Bustamantes were. Huh?

I love him very much. He will always be a huge part of my heart!

Well, there is some info. Haha. Have a great evening!

Those weren't my grandpa's children. He did house a lot of his wives siblings. However, he had two children. One of them died as an infant. My dad was pretty much his only child and he died at the age of 30. I believe all of the ones you mentioned were his wife's sisters. Again, my dad was Billy. And I have a brother named Michael. There are no others. We haven't had any children. Well, that is all for now. I will look for the site. I haven't seen it. I don't know if I will find it either. Let you know. Thanks. Just go to Other members searching for Salomon Bustamante and it will take you there. Tio Salolmon and Bonifacio Bustamante (my husbands father) were brothers. I knew tio Salomon. I didn't know tio Salomon had other children. Some one sent me a profile of all the Bustamantes and it says that he had Andrea (Lupe) Bte, Amelia Bte, Celia Bte. Can you help me. I talked to your mom too. She sent me a board message like you did. that was some time back. Let me know if you saw the website.

Cruz M. Bustamante

Cruz M. Bustamante is a Democrat who became the first Latino to hold a statewide office in California in over 100 years when he was elected lieutenant governor in 1998. Prior to that position, Bustamante served as a California assemblyman and he was the first Latino speaker of the state assembly. Throughout his career Bustamante has supported the agricultural and immigrant communities of California, particularly in his home district of Fresno. He has promoted better education, environmental responsibility, and racial tolerance and diversity during his two terms as lieutenant governor. He is a low-profile politician who has earned a reputation as someone who works hard and who is not afraid to address controversial issues.
Childhood Filled With Work and Values

Cruz M. Bustamante was born on January 4, 1953, in Dinuba, California, the first of six children born to Cruz and Dominga Bustamante. He grew up in San Joaquin living near both sets of grandparents who came to the United States from Chihuahua and Zacatecas, Mexico. Spanish was spoken in the home and it was Bustamante's first language. He only began learning English when he started attending kindergarten.

Bustamante's father worked primarily as a barber and his mother was a homemaker. "My mother made sure we understood how to behave and my father taught us the value of hard work as he held down two jobs, sometimes three, to keep us clothed, fed, and in school," Bustamante said on the California lieutenant governor's official website in 2003. Bustamante learned the value of serving other people from his parents, both of whom were actively involved in community service organizations. The senior Cruz Bustamante was also elected city councilperson and he unsuccessfully ran for the position of county supervisor.

Bustamante attended Tranquility High School, and when he was not in school, he worked in the fields of San Joaquin. "A barber's son who grew up working mostly in the fields of the country's largest agricultural region, where the class division between farm workers and farm owners is as clear as night and day, he shared the feelings of self-doubt and lowered expectations that so many children of his social stature experienced," wrote Fernando Quintero of LatinoLink. As a child Bustamante did not imagine becoming one of the most influential leaders in California when he grew up. After high school he went to Fresno City College to learn butchery. It was a short-lived career choice because Bustamante's entry into politics came when he was just 19 years old.

In 1972 Bustamante's father found an internship opportunity for his son in Washington, D.C., working for Congressman B.F. Sisk, who was the chairperson of the Rules and Means committee. It was an eye-opening experience for the working class rural Californian to be exposed to Washington's fast-paced political scene and elegant social life. Bustamante was assigned to read and answer the congressman's letters from his constituents. He enjoyed the task of helping people and he decided to pursue a career in government instead of butchery.

Bustamante returned to California after his internship and transferred to Fresno State University to study public administration. He stayed at Fresno State until 1977 when he married Arcelia De La Pena and began having children. Soon after, he was offered a part-time job as a fundraiser for local assemblyman Rick Lehman. Bustamante knew that the part-time job was an excellent way to break into California politics, but he also knew that he needed a full-time job to better support his family. Bustamante passed up the opportunity and instead went to work as the director of the Fresno Summer Youth Employment Program. Five years later, in 1983, Assemblyman Lehman became a U.S. representative and he again offered Bustamante a job, this time in a full-time capacity as a district representative. Bustamante quickly jumped at the chance to reenter politics and worked for Lehman for the next five years.

In 1988 Bustamante became a district representative for Assemblyman Bruce Bronzan. Bronzan was up for reelection as assemblyman in 1992 when he decided to take a job at the University of California, San Francisco, just eight days before the November elections. A special election was held in 1993 to fill Bronzan's vacant seat and Bustamante, a Democrat, easily won the election.
Moderate Politics Lead to Lieutenant Governorship

Bustamante was not a high-profile politician early in his career, but he was also not afraid to speak out about important issues. He was especially vocal about the agricultural industry and the immigrant labor force, which were both central to his district. In 1994 Bustamante took a stand against California Governor Pete Wilson's immigration policies. "I take it real personal when immigrants are made out to be the root of all evil," Bustamante told the California Journal Weekly in July of 1994. "They're saying that my grandparents, who worked for themselves and succeeded without being dependent on any social programs, had no merit."

In 1994 Bustamante was reelected as assemblyman of the 31st District. Two years later he became the first Latino speaker of the state assembly. Although Bustamante won 90 percent of the Latino vote in the 1996 election and he had been a strong proponent of immigrants' rights and issues, Bustamante was not a militant Latino who pushed an ethnic agenda. He was a self-described moderate or centrist, which he attributed to his upbringing. Bustamante recalled the tensions between white and Latino children in school and he learned as a child that it was best for him to tread in the middle of the two extremes. "I am built moderate. That's who I am," Bustamante was quoted from a speech by Peter Maass of U.S. News & World Report in March of 1997.

Bustamante has repeatedly explained that he has an American political agenda, not an ethnic agenda. Since his days in the California Assembly, this agenda has consisted of promoting good schools, safe neighborhoods, decent jobs, and opportunities for personal achievement. This straightforward platform won Bustamante the 1998 election for California's lieutenant governor, a constitutional officer who is elected separately from the governor. With this victory Bustamante became the first Latino to be elected to a statewide office in California since 1878. This historic event was celebrated by numerous high ranking political officials, including the vice president of the United States at that time, Al Gore. When Bustamante was sworn into office, he vowed to create more jobs for Californians. "I will work to breathe life into the dreams of entrepreneurs and to eliminate the needless regulation that strangles innovation," Bustamante said to the San Francisco Chronicle in January of 1999.

If you want maybe we can help each other. When did your grandma Evangelina die? Did she die in Hurley? We went to Hurley twice. Once when your grandma was still alive and the next time she was already dead. My husband is tio Salomons nephew. Frank's father was Bonifacio. I understand your father was a musician. Your grandfather Salomon actually used to live with his brother Boni and wife Cuca. He grew up with their children. Franks brothers and sisters didn't call him tio they used to call him Salomon just like he was one of kids too. I think my husband Frank kind of looks like tio Salomon. I understand your grandpa and grandma also raised a niece and nephew. What were their names? I understand your father died very young and that he was a musician. Tio Abe's son Chris who lives in Phoenix is doing a research on the Bustamante family and found our grandfather's death cetificate and a picture of the cemetary in Mogollon, New Mexico where quite a few of Bustamante's are buried. Have you ever gone there? There is also Bustamante ranch in Reserve, New Mexico. A great cousin lives there. His name is Art Bustamante. Please write back. Lydia

My husband remembers stories about your grandfather, he died very young in a mining accident. Is that right? He was the oldest of the family. We also met your tio Abram (your mom's brother) when tio Evangelisto died. We went to the funeral in Tucson, Arizona. Who did you make contact with in Flagstaff? Armando? On our way home from tio Evangelisto's funeral we stopped in Flagstaff. We got to see Armando and wife Concho and we went to see Tio Jose. That was about a year before tio Jose died. We have also met Armando's brother Joe he lived in Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Hi, So glad to hear from you. Are you Billy's daughter. I think I might have met your father once, when we were in Hurley many years ago. Tio Salomon's wife was still living. Did Tio Salomon have any other children? What was his wife's name? Tio Salomon and Boni (my husband Frank's father) were brothers. Are you still living in Hurley?
