I am reading posts from several years ago, so you may be up to date at this point. Paula Collins wrote in 2010, but I didn't read her post. Her grandmother and my great grandmother were sisters and two of the eight Cadogan sib's who came to Boston. My GGM Mary Ellen Cadogan, along with her brother John/Jack, were the first in about 1878. There is lots of info on Cornelius and Julia and all the children. I have made contact with a great granddaughter of Katherine, one of the two youngest who married a British man and moved to London. I'm trying research my Cadogans in Boston, i.e. their descendants. There must be thousands. Please write if you get his.

My Con, my great grandgather, was married to Julia Donahue. I have nothing futher than that. But would love to learn more.
I know that my mother, Rosamond Cadogan, refered to one of her grandparents as a Scanlon.
My grandfather Conelius J. Cadogan came to settle in Charlestown, MA. He and his brother owned Cadogon Brothers Livery and Carrage Makers, he was a blacksmith by trade.
Would love to know more about the Cadogan history.
Pauline Mattie Rohrmann
prohrmann@tampabay.rr.com

Susan, I know this post if from almost 10 years ago, but I wasn't sure how else to reach you. I've been in touch with Paula Collins Mazzio, and I assume you are related by marriage. Margaret Cadogan was the sister of my great grandmother Mary Ellen Cadogan. Paula told me that some in her family had gone to Glengarriff and visited the farm. I would love to see any photos? Paula sent me a photo of Julia Donoughue (in a black dress, very old from the looks of it).
Thanks in advance if you can help. Julie Kelley, daughter of Mary Grant Kelley, daughter of Marie Murray Grant, daughter of Mary Ellen Cadogan Grant - the oldest of the Cadogan siblings.
I'm not sure if this helps anyone with the Cadogan line, but....While researching my great grandfather, Michael Cotter, I found his marriage record from St. Patricks Parish in the Roxbury section of Boston in 1898. Listed as the "witnesses" (for lack of a better word) are Cornelius Cadogan and Mary Hayes. My Michael Cotter's family is from the Glengarriff/Derrycreigh area of Cork. Michael's wife was Hannah Connors who was from Bantry. Hope this helps someone.

You are correct that Mary Whooley's sister Margaret married Nicholas Keohane of Clouncuggar, Caheragh. They are my grandparents.
I heard the Mary Whooley story second hand thru my cousin Peg Diggin (formerly Keohane of Clouncuggar) daughter of Patrick Keohane and Mary Daly.
Hallo John,
Mary Whooley did go to Lisheen but I don't know about her being sickly a a child. As far as I know she went to Lisheen to marry Timothy Cadogan of Poulnacallee. She did indeed have a son John who lived in Poulnacallee until about 19779, whenhe died. His daughter Maureen still lives there...she is a Mrs. Davis. Mary Whooley had around twelve children altogether...twelve who survived in any case, and my grandmother Margaret Cadogan was the eldest of them. I heard that Mary Whooley, Mrs. Cadogan, was very fat in old age. There may have been an older connection with the Cadogans which brought her into contact with Timothy Cadogan but if so I never heard of it.
I never heard of a Mary Cadogan who went to Caheragh or Clouncuggar, but I understand that Mary Whooley's sister was married to Keohane of Caheragh. I remember my mother talking about Keohane relatives there and I rememne meeting them as a child. Hope this helps. Tim

I have been quite shortsighted. Prior to posting the above item I should have checked the 1901 Census now posted by the National Archives of Ireland. It lists
the family of Cornelius, 48, and Catherine, 42, Cadogan of Poulnacallee, Aghadown, and their children, Tim and Ellen, 18, Patrick, 16, Katie, 15, Con, 13, Annie, 11, Maggie, 8, Maryann, 6 and John, 4.
If anyone knows if this Catherine was a Wholey, I would appreciate knowing. Thank you, John Keohane, Paterali@aol.com

Timothy, I am taking the liberty of replying to you because your earlier posts indicate that you are familiar with West Cork and all things Cadogan.
I am looking for info re a Cadogan, perhaps named Mary, who married a John Keohane of Clouncuggar, Caheragh and lived there. John was b. 1858. There are two stories told of this Cadogan, one that she died childless, and the other, that her name was Mary and that she had a child Mary baptised in the Killeenleigh Church Nov. 1887. John remarried to a Margaret Hegarty.
I am also looking for info re a Catherine Wholey, b. June 1864, of Lissaclarig, Kilcoe/Aughadown, who was sickly as a child and was sent to live with Cadogan relatives in Lisheen near the sea. She supposedly married a Cadogan and had a son John who lived in Poulnacalle near Lisheen.
Any assistance would be appreciated. John Keohane

Hallo...
If I were you I'd be looking at Cape Clear Island, near Skibbereen, for your grandmother's place of birth. I say this because Ciaran, which occurs in your family, is the patron saint of Cape Clear, and though it is a common name in Ireland now, it was once quite rare, but Cape Clear is one of the places where it would have occurred. Driscoll and Cadigan are common surnames on the island. It is part of the Catholic parish of Rath and the Islands. Of course it is only a hunch

hello,
I was interested in your post about Cadogans. I've been trying to find records for Julia Driscol and Cornelius Cadogan. I think they are my grandmother's parents.
My grandmother Bridget was born 1n 1887. She had 4 siblings. She travelled on the ship,Pavonia from Queenstown, Ireland. She arrived at Boston on 10 June 1894. She lived on Lenox Street, Boston, MA. Her sister Mary b:1879 also migrated to the US. She lived in the Back Bay area of Boston and was a maid for Josephine Chappel.
Bridget's brother Ciaran married a McCarthy and had 3 sets of twins. He was in the British Merchant Marines and was shipwrecked off the coast of Scotland in 1945. Her brother Dennis and sister Catherine remained in Ireland and were said to be over 7ft. tall.

Ellen Crowley Mullholland was the daughter of John Crowley and Margaret Canty (sp?), so not the same Ellen Crowley as Julia Sullivan and John Crowley the tailor's daughter (Mary A. Cadigan's stepdaughter).

The name Driscoll or O'Driscoll is prominent in Southwest Cork. Cadigan and Driscoll are often linked, also Sullivan and McCarthy. That's what I've seen.

I am searching for missing relatives named Catharine Crowley, Ellen Crowley, and John Crowley. Their father was John Crowley, tailor, believed to be from Roaring Water Bay, Co. Cork, Ireland. His first wife was Julia Sullivan, who died. John's second wife was Mary A. Cadigan, daughter of Daniel Cadigan (the Cadigans immigrated to Boston from Clear Island, Co. Cork, Ireland). John Crowley then died. I don't know what happened to Catharine, Ellen, and John Crowley. Mary A. Cadigan re-married. I would be grateful for any information about the Crowley children. Thank you kindly.

Hello

My name is Randy Spaulding and I live in Halifax Nova Scotia. I grew up in Lennoxville Quebec. Daniel Cadogan is my great grandfather. My grandparents (Catherine Cadogan and William John McCormack moved to Canada in 1929 and first settled in Lennoxville Quebec...I think my grandfather came over a little earlier. My grandfather died in 1954, so never new him and my grandmother, Catherine, died in 1979. My mother, Evelyn McCormack, is their youngest daughter. Would you believe that I just finished framing a picture of my great grandfather and have it up on the wall...awesome that I found this post!

I have a Cadogan woman from Poulnacallee (in my family tree) who married Richard Salter, maybe of Lisheen. The only other info I have is on one of their daughters - Margaret, born 1920 became a nun, Sr. Mary Augustin Salter of the Sisters of St. Francis. In trying to put some dates on the Cadogan woman: daughter Margaret was born in 1920, Richard Salter's mother, Hanora Walsh, was born in 1847 - so the timeframe for the Cadogan woman's birth is probaby 1880-1890.

Daniel Cadigan/Cadogan and his wife Johanna "Hannah" Hart was from Cape Clear, Clear Island, County Cork. Daniel was born around 1806, and Johanna was born around 1808. They had seven children, as far as I can tell. Mary A. (bap. Mar 1830); Catharine (bap. Jan 1832); Michael (bap. Sep 1833); William (bap. Oct 1835); John (Jun 1837); Ellen (bap Jan 1840); and Timothy T. (bap Jan 1846). Don't know what became of Catharine and William. Mary, Michael, John, Ellen, and Timothy immigrated to Boston. Mary married John Crowley and Patrick Sullivan in Boston. Ellen married Patrick Murphy (possibly around Lexington, Kentucky) and Michael Finley.
