Hi David. Most Cains have proved to be of Irish origins (even many who claimed Manx origin). But there were English Cains in both north & south England. We probably have some of their American descendants in the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com/public/Cain-Caine

Am searching for info on a John Cain, Jr. son of John and Elizabeth Sutherland Cain. John, Sr. supposedly lived in Greencastle, In. but unable to find him on any census. Had a sister Emma who lived with a Goodpasture family in Indiana for a time and later moved to Illinois with her mother and married a John Eldon Akes. Emma was born in 1861, and John was older, so probably in middle to late 1850s. According to family story, John was living in Lebanon, Mo. at one time. Found a death certificate on Missouri digital records, but am unable to connect this John with any certainty. Would appreciate any info and/or leads.

Is anyone familiar with the Louisa Cain who married Alexander Davis on 29 Aug 1835 in Stokes County, NC? Johnson Medley was the bondsman, and D. Stockton was the witness. I am trying to determine if her husband, Alexander Davis, was the Alexander Davis from Surry County, son of Samuel L. Davis. Thank you for any help.

Joseph S Cain b 1832 AL d 1904 Mobile AL - 'Father' of Mardi Gras Mystics in Mobile

MOBILE REGISTER - 19 APRIL 1904

DEATH OF JOSEPH S CAIN

Joseph S Cain, a native of Mobile and long-time resident of this city, but latterly of Bayou la Batre, died Sunday night, April 17, in his seventy-second year. His wife was, before marraige, Elizabeth Rabe. She survives him, with five children, Mrs Eldora Laru, of Dallas TX, Joseph M Cain, of Biloxi; Mrs Alice -----, of San Francisco; Mrs Nellie Penny, of Mobile, and Oliver S Cain, of Bayou la Batre. There are seventeen grandchildren. He was a life-long member of the Methodist Church.
The funeral takes place this morning at Bayou la Batre cemetery. Mr Cain was active in local politics many years ago, was a member of Volunteer Fire Company No 8, and was one of the originators of the TDS, of the history of which he was very proud. The society some years ago presented to him a gold-headed cane in memory of its origin and progress. In his later years, he followed the vocation of a gardener.
Mr Cain was the last of those who were the organizers of TDS in 1846 and was long regarded as the 'father' of mystics here, as, in 1866 he assisted in starting the Mardi Gras celebration here. At the last annual banquet of the TDS, Mr Cain was the special guest and was cordially toasted and made a speech, recalling the enjoyments of old days.

* Although Mardi Gras had been celebrated in Mobile for many years, it was suspended during the Civil War. In 1866 Mr Cain dressed up as a Chickasaw Indian, who had never been defeated in battle, and led a parade in Mobile. The occupying Union troops didn't get the irony.
The Cains were reinterred in Church Street Cemetery in Mobile. The Sunday before Mardi Gras in Mobile is called 'Joe Cain' Day.
Mrs Cain's maiden name is also spelled Rabbe or Rabby in Mobile.

Not my family, just sharing from the newspaper archives of the Mobile Public Library.

Hi everyone

I am building my family tree and have confirmed back to George Cain( sometimes recorded as cane) born about 1823/6 in Markyate/Flampstead, England.

I believe George's parents are William & Elizabeth. The only christening record though is for 1836? He was christend on 25th December- does anybody know if this was a common practice at the time?

Be great to hear about any knowledge of the Cains of Flamstead both pre 1820's and post- Natually keen to confirm George's father as William and any details on William's parents

Thanks for any help with this

best wishes

David

Looking for information on William Cain, born about 1774, possibly in Virginia. Moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky, before 1807 from somewhere in Tennessee. William appears in the census in Pulaski County in 1810 & 1820, and Russell County, KY in 1830 through 1860 (age given as 84). Wife Margaret, maiden name unknown. We have the names of six of his children: Nancy, Jane, Gracie, Ephraim (from whom I am descended), William Riley and Smith W. We would like any information on where William was born, who his parents and siblings were, when he died and where he is buried. Also looking for additional information on his wife Margaret, his daughters, and any other children he had. Thanks for your help.

Michael Starsinic

I think that I may be spelling his name wrong. Death record and head stone both just say A. Cain. He was married to Rachel Victoria Green (I think) and then had a second marriage to Mary (no last name). It is his first marriage and wife that I am interested in. Does anyone have any information?

Cain, Daniel

I am searching the Daniel Cain of Greene Co., Sugarcreek Twp., OH, born before 1750 and died in Greene Co. after 1850 according to Robertson's History lived to be either 104 or 108 years old. In 1806, he purchased 100 acres of Virginia Military Survery from Capt Churchill Jones located on Gladys Run in Greene Co. In 1814, he married Sarah Knight who should be his second or third wife. I have traced him to the Guilford Co., NC, 1790 census where there is also Jerediah Cain and Mary. Mary is living next to Daniel and Sarah in the Greene Co., OH, census in 1820 and is buried with the inscription Mary Cain wife of Jerediah.

Cain's who either married in Guilford Co. just before going to Greene Co. or were married in Greene Co. were Hannah Cain who married Samuel Knight, Temperance Cain who married Lewis Bingaman, Christiana Cain who married John Sanders, Abner Cain who married Elizabeth Paulin, Samuel Cain , Joseph Cain, and Robert Cain.

These are my ancestors but I can not find the connections. Who were they? Does anyone have any information about any of them? I would be glad to exchange what I have.

Thank you, Dianne Cain Black

My gggrandfather's name was Thomas Cain. He was apparently born abt. 1819 in England. He emigrated to Canada at about age 20. His wife's name was Jane Wilson ( born in Northern Ireland..?Belfast). I first find Thomas & Jane as living on property in Scott Tp. ( Sandford, Ontario) to which they received a deed in 1858. They are not in all of the census records but as they & other family members lived & were buried around this area and in York (Toronto), I believe they remained close by until they died. They had about 13 children & I have many records for some of them. Please reply if these people have or may have any connection to you. Thank-you, Vicki

My mother, Margaret, had one sister, Virginia, and 2 brothers Erwin and John. Their father was Albert Inkerman Schell who was born in Canada. He married Margaret Cain in Queens NY. I beleive the brothers may have died young but I can find no records on them anywhere other than the 1920 census for Erwin and the 20 and 30 census for John

I visited the Mound Grove Cemetery in Indepencence, Missouri last week and observed there were flowers placed at Jessee Lee and Amilia Cain’s grave sites. They are two of my distant relatives. I would dearly like to know who placed these flowers as they would be the only living relatives of Jesse and Amilia that I know of. Please contact me through this site or e-mail me at skier2580@aol.com if you are the person or persons who placed these flowers.

Mary Jane Cain would have been a granddaughter of Mathias. Mathias's father was also named Mathias.
Although these are not hard cold facts hopefully they can help someone out there looking for these people. At least give a starting place or help confirm another soft fact or hunch.

The follow is EXACTLY how the notes are written:
_____________________________________________________

Notes taken from Sallie(Sarah?)

I see these are old postings, but I am hoping you have found something. Myggrandparents were James and Eliza Cain having moved to Morgan County about 1852. I had no evidence of a reason for them to start life there. I'm wondering if they were related. Any light you could shed on the Cains of Morgan County would be greatly appreciated.
