Sounds great! Is your name Sharon? My name is Sheila Robb & I live in Winnipeg. I grew up in Clearwater & used to love to go to Aunt Mina's farm & also to see Auntie Eve, as those two were the ones we knew. I haven't kept in touch with the cousins, but I do remember some of them. I never knew Ilona, but I remember my mom mentioning the names Ilona & Goldie, & I remember Dorothy Harrison & also Harvey Harrison from Killarney. I vaguely remember hearing the name Jack, but wasn't sure where the connection was. A few years ago, my brother was trying to find out a little bit about the Cairns's & he would have remembered grandpa quite well. Grandma Cairns was a bit of a witch! LOL
Anyways, I would love to have a copy of the info if you're interested in passing on what you know. I'm older than you, widowed, & have four kids & seven grandkids. I'm not too keen on putting my addy here, but what the heck. I'm at 13 Jubinville Bay, Wpg, MB R2J 2A4. My direct email is robbshe@mymts.net.

Barry,Gerald,Marvin & Joanne are my mothers first cousins,my second. Their father was Jack Cairns, son of Hugh Cairns. I do have the Cairns family tree. if you are interested in a copy of it I could send it to you but would have to get it copied & send it by regular mail if you would be willing to give me your address. It's too big to email. This family tree was made up by a Gerry Cairns (not the above mentioned Gerald) who came to Canada right from Ireland & lives in Brithish Columbia. I have seen the names that you mentioned on this family tree & my mother says she remembers Evelyn & Charles Bell & Ilona Harrison who was married to Goldie Harrison. Where do you live? I am in Brandon,Manitoba & I am 55 years old. I've been trying to do family history for a long time but have been stumped when it comes to the Cairns family. Haven't been able to get back before my grandpa Hugh was born in Ireland. It's good to hear from someone else in the family.

My grandparents had Mina (married Joe Cobbledick & then a Bridges when she was widowed), Evelyn (Charles Bell), Ilona (Harrison), & my dad Robert. They grew up in Holmfield. My grandparents later moved to Russell & I think had a hardware there. My parents separated when my siblings & I were young (I was the baby) & so I don't know too much about alot of the relatives. My mom died about eleven years ago, but my sister may remember some things. My brother died a couple of years ago so I can't ask him. I know that I have cousins Barry, Gerry, Marvin, & Joanne Cairns but I've never met them. My sister did, so knew them a little bit.

I did know that the two brothers ran a hardware store but you gave me some info that I didn't know. I wasn't awrae that Cairns is actuially a Scottish name. My mother has told me about an uncle that came to Killarney but went back to Ireland & I think that was Thomas Liddle. My grandfather,Hugh Cairns, married Lillian Coulter in Boissevain,Manitoba. They had 5 children, Dorothy;Nora;David;Jack & Barry.

The info I have found on here are that the two brothers ran a hardware in Holmfield for some time. Grandpa (Thomas) was born in 1877 & his brother Hugh was born in 1885. Their parents were Robert & Elizabeth(Liddle)Cairns. The parents were married in Fermanagh Cty & the boys were born in Timpany,Cloghen(or Claughin Cty)Co in Tyrone, Northern Ireland. They had an uncle,Thomas Liddle,in Killarney. Cairns is a Scottish name & I think they were descended from the northern Scots who emigrated to Ireland for the Brits so they could keep in power.I wrote a bunch of stuff down one day, but not sure exact;y where I've got it all stashed. :-)

Andrew Cairns

I am looking for information on Andrew Cairns. He was born Oct 1885 in Pennsylvania, US. His mother is Rosana Henry Cairns Ewing of Scotland. His father is unknown - possibly also Andrew Cairns of Scotland. He left home in the early 1900's to possibly Chicago, IL and the family never heard from him again. His father would have been my great-great grandfather and I am hitting a brick wall to learn more. Any help is appreciated.

There are several records that show up on FamilySearch and Ancestry related to Daniel R. Cairns (father and son).

According to the US Social Security Database, Daniel R. Cairns was born 5 September 1948 and died 29 August 2009.

Daniel Richard Cairns was born 8 Apr 1922 and died 12 Jan 1985 in Pinellas, Florida. He was born in Wisconsin, according to the US draft records, and was living in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1942, when he enlisted in the army at Milwaukee.

I couldn't find him in the 1930 US census, but FamilySearch gives the US Social Security Death information for both men and possibly you could order the record and find out more in that way.
