Cairns Tree Question

Ok I know some things about my side but not much.If I type it all up I hope someone will help me out with my search. Ok So heres how it goes:

William Robert Cairns Married Elizabeth(last name unknown) in Petersburg VA. Now they are buried in Blanford Cementry in Petersburg. They had 2 children:

Emmett Clifton Cairns(My side)
AND
Charles Arthur Cairns(Little known)

Emmett Clifton Cairns married Bertha Cawthorn. They are burried at Shady Grove United Methodist Cementry. They Had three kids:

Arthur Clifton Cairns(My side)
AND
George William Cairns(Not much known)
AND
Annie Elizabeth Cairns(Some is known not my side)

Arthur Clifton Cairns married Virginia White. Arthur Clifton Cairns was born in 1911-1912(Unsure as to the exact date) in Richmond it is thought.(Again not positive)He lived in Richmond where he and Virginia(Divorced Virginia and Married Ruth Stalling and moved to Jacksonville,Duval,Florida later) had two children:

Arthur Clifton Cairns Jr.(My Grandfather)
AND
Emmett R.(Cant remember full middle name Robert??) Cairns

Arthur Clifton Cairns Jr. married Geraldine Bowen and later gave birth to my mother and uncle:

Arthur Clifton Cairns III(Trae)
AND
Cherie(The E was later dropped)Lynne(My Mother)

Cheri married Michael Wayne Saunders and they had one child:

Michael Hayden Saunders(Me)

Some additional info:
We know that we came from Midlothian Scotland County of Edinburgh). Do not know who came over or on what ship or where we landed(Huge help I know). We do know that they lived in Petersburg and one of them was hanged for stealing a horse in Petersburg.(Must have been a nice horse haha) I am now 15 and know what I am part Native American. We were wondering if it was on my grandma's(Geraldine(Gerrie)Bowen) side or if it was on my grandfather's side. Probally on my grandmother's side but who knows. That is what prompted this whole search and then I decided to get my grandparents a HUGE family tree that branches off like crazy. I'm not sure why I am telling you this but its just filler because I'm thinking. Umm that does it for now. If you have a Cairns in your tree or want to help that would be really cool if you would let me know. Just reply here and ill check. Feel Free to ask questions. I may or may not have the answer but could look it up.
Frederick Augustus Cairns

Does anyone have any information on my great-great grandfather's parents? Professor Frederick A. Cairns was born in 1820, died in 1879, married Mary Jay Snowden of a prominent Tennessee family in 1874, and they had three kids, Bayard Snowden Cairns, Major Douglas W. Cairns, and Elizabeth Cairns. Frederick was originally from Connecticut, and I don't know when his father emigrated from Scotland, but it was certainly prior to 1820.

Thanks

Have ran into many dead ends researching this which is the line of my paternal grandmother, Agnes Elizabeth Kearns. (Sibling names include Ann, Edward, James Jr., Philip)

My great uncle was Philip Cairns who served in the First World War, possibly as a cook. He has siblings that went by Kearns. His mother Mary (Cavinough?) and father James used the spelling Kerns.James Kerns can be found in the Summit Co. OH 1930 stating he was from Scotland. Family lore has it that there were two sides of the family Kerns with a K and Cairns with a C. The correct spelling apparently was a family joke.

Would welcome hearing from any familiar with this line.

Victor George Cairns

I am hoping someone can help me with my search.

I am trying to locate the birth record or baptism record of my grandfather without success.

I have done searches through the National Registrar office, the Library in Dublin and many of the parish churches and
after spending a lot of money (hundreds of dollars) have come up with nothing.

My grandfather was apparently born in Drumcondra, Co. Dublin in May 1887. His name was Victor George Cairns
His father's name was John and his mother was Kathleen. Kathleen was born in 1858. I do not know John's birth date.
Victor had two older brothers, Harry Thomas Cairns, born around 1876 and John Allan Cairns born around 1885.

They could not find any record of Victor's birth in the National Registrar's office so it may have either not been a registered birth or it may have been destroyed in the fire. There will hopefully be a baptism record somewhere, but I have not had any luck in finding that either. There is apparently a John Cairns listed in Thom's Directory as a
ratepayer in 12 Windsor Avenue, Clontarf from 1888. I cannot seem to find access to the Thom's Directory from here. I do not know for sure if it is the same family, but it could quite likely be.

I feel like I keep hitting roadblocks to find a birth record. It could be that the records were destroyed but I am hopeful someone out there knows how I can locate it.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Cindy Ford
I am looking for any informatrion about a Frank Cairns who married Mary Ann Blackburn in 1881 in Burnley, Lancashire. He may have been born at Goodshaw in Lancs. Frank and Mary Ann had three daughters, Lelia, Norah and Rose Ann. Other than these facts, I cannot find any mention of him anywhere. He seems to have vanished completely. If anyone can supply any positive information, I would be very pleased.

Looking for assistance in locating a Margaret Theresa Cairns (middle name spelling?). She was born abt.1934 in Troy, New York. I did find a Margaret born in Troy about 1925 and 1926 bort to a Joseph and Alma. Margaret had a son Joshua in 1965 and gave him up for adoption. I wonder if there could be a adoption record also. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am fairly new to this. Thank you.

Obit. CAIRNS, ISOBEL

CAIRNS, ISOBEL Oct. 20, 1910 to March 28, 2004 Isobel Cairns was born in Worcester, Mass. in a German Settlement with English as her second language. She worked for the Brooklyn Bureau of Social Services from 1932-1941. In 1940 Isobel and her mother came to San Diego to visit the Cairns family, old friends they had not seen since 1920. The following June, Rob traveled to New York to propose and they were married August 30. Both in 1936 and 1956 Isobel battled Tuberculosis staying a year each time in TB hospitals. In 1956 she lost 1/3 of her lung and was a pioneer for the use of TB experimental drugs. They are still used today to treat TB. Isobel was very active in many activities and clubs. She and Rob loved to travel the world. If you combine all the cruises, they circled the world. She is survived by three children, Betsy Chamberlain of Pacific Beach, Fred Cairns of Las Vegas, Jeanne Sinquefield of Pacific Palisades, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Memorial services will be held April 24, 2004, at 1 p.m. in the backyard of her daughter, 1127 Diamond St. Pacific Beach. In lieu of flowers, make a donation to your favorite charity. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com
Published in the San Diego Union-Tribune on 4/20/2004.
Susan Cairns

Sometime ago - I asked for some information concerning a Susan Cairns - alas to no avail. This time I am asking as to whether anyone has any information concerning a David Cairns who may have been born around 1830 - 1845. I understand that he married a Margaret McEvoy. I am also led to believe that David Cairns lived to the ripe old age of 104 and lived in - or around Belfast - or maybe County Antrim. As a result Susan Cairns - born in 1868 could well have been born in Antrim, I know she arrived in Adelaide in 1925 and died in Adelaide - South Australia in 1948. Susan Cairns/McTier had a brother by the name of Robert (Bob) Cairns and in turn he had a daughter Barbara - who later married a Doctor by the name of (Jim?) McCauley. The two of them travelled to Australia (Maryborough - Victoria) around 1980 and then left and made their way to Canada. I understand that they have two children. I am interested in any information that may be 'out there' .
John Cairns McTier - Adelaide, South Australia.

Cairns Northern Ireland/England/New Jersey

Hi,

My great-grandmother Jennie Kenney was born Jennie Cairns or Jennie Kearns (unsure of spelling) in England in approx. 1874. I know she came to the US (settling in Kearny, NJ by 1930) in 1886 at around the age of 12. I have heard that she was a servant in a wealthy household upon her arrival. I do not know if she came by herself or with her parents (12 was a lot older in the 19th century than it is now). Both of her parents were born in Northern Ireland, but I do not know their names or any more info about them or any siblings.

My great grandmother married Joseph Kenney in New Jersey around 1896. They had several children (w/approximate dates of birth):

Joseph b.1895
Elizabeth b.1907
Charles b. 1908
Aloysius b. 1911
Catherine "Cappy" b. 1912

I would love to hear from any relatives or anyone who has any more information about my Cairns relatives--I'm kind of stuck!

Thanks,
Rebecca

I have traced the Cairns family back to a Dr. Caldwell Cairns, Monroe Co. Illinois approximately 1800. He married Mary Bond and had, I believe, 3 children, John, William, and Isabell. I believe that Caldwell was born in Philadelphia. If any one recognizes this line, and can help my further research, please let me know prior to the 10th of January, 2000. Otherwise I will be out of country for 6 months. Thanks

William Cairns died at age 77 and was buried at Holy Trinity Church, Newtown (Nr. Fareham, Hants) Diocese of Portsmouth on 1st Feb. 1940, so he must have been born in 1862 or 1863.
I had an e-mail a little while ago from the Church secretary! Absolute luck!
William Cairns and ????? ????? had 3 children (as far as I know! - maybe more!) They were: Mildred, Kitty and Will. I know nothing of Kitty and Will except my uncle Bill's recollection of a "Kitty" and an "Uncle Will". Mildred Cairns was my grandmother.
Mildred Cairns (born approx 1894 in Southsea) married Arthur "Titch" Ellis. He died about 1932. Grandmother died in 1936 or very early 1937 at the latest.
I don't know if they met in London, or moved there.
They had 5 children, Mildred (my mother), Kathleen, Violet, William and Peter, and 2 stepchildren, Arthur and Mina, from her husband's previous marriage to an Annie Scrutton who may have died in childbirth.
I suspect I may have a few distant cousins somewhere, if Kitty or William had children

JAMES CAIRNS (1829-1875) & WIFE ISABEL GORDON (1825-1881) -- WHAT SHIP?

Hi!

Does anyone know on what ship James Cairns (20 July 1829 New Kilpatrick, Scot.-19 Oct. 1875 Springfield, MO), his wife Isabel Gordon Cairns (3 May 1825 Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scot.-Sept. 188l Topeka, KS) and their children (William, Peter, Isabel, Masy, John, Kate, Jane, Mary, and Christina) arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia around May of 1866? They were from the Glasgow region of Scotland, so I suppose they were on a ship out of either Glasgow or Liverpool. There is also a possibiltiy they utilized the Perpetual Emigrating Fund offered by the Latter-day Saint Church, as they were members of that church at that time.

Thank you for your help!

~Wanda Flowers~
