Hi Debbie - I've been searching for background on my family (rather infrequently, I'll admit) and today was in a mood to search out some painting of my great-great-(great?)-grandfather, Charles Callcott. This message board came up, and as it would happen your story is the one I have heard my mother tell about our semi-famous relative. (My geneology working back is Noyes-Dunn-Tomlinson-Callcott) I realize after 11 years you probably won't get this message, but feel its worth reaching out to a relative, just in case you do! My mother and aunt I think will have quite a bit of information on him and I'll be happy to make connections with you if you respond to this. I'm initially from Ontario, now living in Victoria, BC (where my aunt also lives).

They married in 1878 in London and emmigrated to the US, the year is unknown but as they do not appear in the 1881 England census it would seem likely they emmigrated prior to 1881.

THOMAS SPARKS CALCUTT married Mary Ann Newberry at Woburn, Bedfordshire, in 1885, and had two children, Mary and JOHN SPARKS. He died at Burgess Hill, Sussex, in 1941, but is buried at North Leigh. Miss Eileen Sparks Calcutt, daughter of John Sparks Calcutt, is buried at North Leigh, and the descendants of her four brothers, David Sparkes, Antony Richard, Paul Stephen and Patrick Ivor are now widely scattered throughout England suggesting the family did not emigrate. This branch of the Calcutt family have a strong link to The North Leigh area of Oxfordshire if this helps.

Dear Peter,
Where did your Carrie Calcutt die? My
great-grandmother died around 1980 in
Pennsylvania. I don't know who her parents
were. Do you know of any descendants for your
Carrie Calcutt? My great-grandmother had at
least 4. I appreciate your help.

Jennifer
jencat65@hotmail.com

Hello Again!
I am thrilled to hear from you so fast. I haven't got any information on Carrie's Parents right now. She was born in 1889 and died in 1981. She married Bert Loveall and had 3 girls and 1 boy. She might have been from the Quaker group but i am not certain. I do know that we had some relatives who were PA Dutch or related to them. I will try to cantact one of my Great Aunts to find out more but they are all in homes and hard to find.
Thank you for your help.

This is very strange - Calcutt is quite an unusual name and I had no idea so many people shared it! I just happened to come across this site whilst browsing on the net, but now that I've discovered it, anyone wishing to find out more about the present Calcutts in Bristol, England is most welcome to email me. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello,
I was very interested to see your posting about the Calcutts of Canada as I am trying to trace a connection to one branch of the family that emigrated there from Ireland. They were known as the Calcutts of Port Hope, Canada. I have an extensive family tree dating from 1599.

6th James Calcutt, son of the 5th James Calcutt, Captain, 1st Regiment Northumberland, Canada, 1850 was born in Mountmellick, Queens County, Ireland, April 10th 1821, and emigrated with his father and family to Canada A.D 1832. Married Oct 7th 1850 Julia 6th Dau' of William Sowden of Beaver Meadows, in the Co of Northumborland, by whom he had 2 sons.etc etc.

They were an aristocratic family whose mooto was Amor Veritatis (The love of truth).

Can you make any connection here? I would be very interested to hear from you.I live in England.

Best regards Tristan Salazar. tristansalazar@aol.com

His father, who passed away about 1968 or 69, was a Fire Chief at Fort Bragg or some other military facility in the area.
One of his older brothers use the air name "Tim Kennedy" in the 60s at WMBL in Morehead City and later worked (off-air) at a radio station in Miami, Fla.
The last I heard anything about Ed was in 1975 at which time he was supposed to be living in Washington, D.C.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Looking for information about John Calcutt and wife Sarah Jane Armstrong. John was born abt 1835 in England. Sarah who was born in Canada [possibly Trenton] in 1840. They were married c. 1858. I know nothing of Sarah except that she had a sister named Jennie and that Sarah died abt 1914 in Ontario.

In 1871 John and Sarah were living in Northumberland Co, Murray Twp. Ontario. I am descended from their daughter Anna Calcutt, born abt 1860. Anna married Samuel Fitzgerald and they emigrated to Orleans Co. NY abt 1884. Around 1910 they moved on to Niagara Co., NY town of Royalton. Samuel Fitzgerald died sometime between 1910 and 1920. Anna remarried to a man named Frank Beam and returned to Canada where she died in 1934.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. The descendants of Anna Calcutt and Samuel Fitzgerald are Ethel F. Fitzgerald m. Claude Gormley, Etta J. Fitzgerald m. Arthur Nevins, Ida Fitzgerald m. Bert Collins, Bertha Fitzgerald m. Charles Reason.

Hi Ron, About our connected family. It is a most interesting family I can tell you a little bit about it. My book starts off with HERCULES CALCOTT. He was in the colony of Virginia in 1677/8; at this time he signed a petition in "BACON'S REBELLION". By 1685, he was deceased, for his wife/"relict", was married to another, Robert Brock. I have tried to find where he came from in England, with no luck so far. Don't give up, I have an email from someone here in Texas. Her family is "Calcott" from England in the WWII era. I am looking for her address will get back to you. My email is fbrite02@aol.com

My name is Tim McHenry and I am the grandson of Flora Calcutt McHenry who is in turn the gggg grandaughter of James II Calcutt of Montrath, Queens Co . He is, of course the g grandfather of James V (1792-1869) who settled in Coburg, Canada. Of Joseph I (1708-1776), the younger son of James II Calcutt, his descendents variously emigrated to Montreal, and in the case of my branch, Australia.

So if you are lacking any info on the Joseph branch of the Calcutts, I would be happy to help out; and equally, I would be interested in the expansive Calcutts of Canada.
