Seeking any info on Milley Mandy Johnson (abt 1874 - ) who married unknown Camden of Nelson County, VA. She may be part of Camden's from Amherst County, VA. Children may be Ned Camden, Morris Camden, Polly Camden, and Lovie Lee Camden. Lovie Lee Camden (1892 - 1975) was married to George Sprouse. Lovie and George are buried in Roseland, VA.

This info came from 2 of my uncles, but I can't find/verify anything of this. Most likely lived in Lowesville area of Amherst and/or Massies Mill area of Nelson County. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My email is charlessprouse@hotmail.com.

William was b abt 1815 & Lucretia was b abt 1810 I believe they are brother & sister. Need the names of their parents & other siblings. William marr Caroline Dawes 15 Feb 1838 in Gerrard Co & Lucretia marr Issac Dawes 4 Jul 1836 in Lincoln Co. Issac was b abt 1795 in Fauquier Co Va. Also need the names of his parents & siblings. He was 1st marr to Lucy Huffman 8 Nov 1817 in Fauquier. She was the dau of William Huffman Jr.& Ann Guy. Have children for Issac & Lucy but need children for him & Lucretia. Salley Lee Camden bed quilt

Hi Rick,

Need your help.

This Thursday I will be getting a formal appraisal of the Salley Lee Camden quilt that I purchased a couple of years back.

What I'm trying to clear up is the date that Sally (Salley) Lee Camden was born.

Sewn in the quilt is the spelling "Salley" Lee Camden.

I see the dates 1777 and 1785.

Can anyone help me with where the two different dates came from. Now I do understand that there are numerous dates that can be found for most anyone that far back but just asking about the sources.

I'm just trying to provide the most accurate date regarding her birth.

When I get the written appraisal back, I will copy it to you to share with anyone you please.

There is a quilt museum over in Golden Colorado and a lady is coming over from Denver to do the appraisal along with some of the ladies in the Golden area.

Good to hear from you. How thrilling this is to find Sally Lee Camden's family line.

I'm currently in Chicago visiting family and will be returning to Colorado next week. I have many good photos (jegs) to share with you and your family. I'm heading down to Sinking Creek for the family reunion and would be glad to share a look at the quilt if any of your family would like to see it. I just located it a few years back and the person who bought it in an auction decided to sell it to me about 2 or 3 years ago. It is in great shape. It does have "Sally Lee Camden Bed Quilt" sewn on it.

I would send an jeg attachment but I don't think I can in this format.

I have many questions about your Camden line, as we know very little about Martha Camden who married our Daniel Givens @ 1764.

Rusty Givens here with from the Daniel & Martha Camden Givens family line from Craig CO, Sinking Creek, VA formeraly Augusta CO, VA. Daniel and Martha Camden m@ 1764.

Sylvia I'm not sure if I told your or any of your Camden line but I purchased a Bed Quilt that was made for a Sally Lee Camden and this quilt may have been made @ the late 1790's. It appears that some of the colors were done with walnuts, which indicates leads to the date that I just noted. This may have been a niece of Martha Camden's.

The above wording is sewn on the quilt, "Bed quilt for Sally Lee Camden".

Henry Camden appears to have married Rebecca Rouse in 1841 in the City of Worcester. Their daughter Louisa Ann Camden was born in 1843 in Shipton On Stour. It appears this family is from the Gloucester, Worchester, Warwickshire area.

Based on the most recent DNA results posted at the Camden DNA Project site William Camden who married Elizabeth Fitch in Albemarle County, VA was NOT related to the Camdens in Amherst County, VA. Sure would like to see more Camden males participate in the project.

Camden from England to Ontario to New York

Henry Camden and his wife Rebecca emigrated from England to Perth County, Ontario around 1845. Henry was a farmer in Perth and there is some indication he lived in Melcombe Regis (Weymouth) in Dorset, England. He had at least a daugther Louisa and possibly emigrated with a brother Thomas Camden. Thomas Camden later settled in Long Island in Queens County and was a farmer.

Henry Camden's daugther Louisa Ann Camden married in 1859 to John Purser and later removed to Sarnia, Lambton Co., Ontario. After her husband's death she moved to Long Island, New York to live with her children who had settled there.

First Camden DNA Test Results Posted

The first 2 DNA test results have been posted and the most interesting fact is that not only are they NOT a match the most likely family place of origin is different. This is a very important aspect of the test. We are awaiting the results of the third test which are targeted for the month of July.

We really need more direct Camden male descendants to participate in the DNA study. Now that we know that William Camden of Kentucky was not related to old John Camden of Amherst Co. VA we need to try to piece these Camdens together.

A big step in accomplishing this would be to have a descendant of Henry Camden of Maryland to take the DNA test. This would hopefully confirm that old John and Henry were related.

Personally, I would like to see descendants of Henry Camden of Maryland, Bartley Camden, Marble Peter McPatrick Camden, and Gideon Camden participate. Of course, I would like to see all Camden males participate which would make this project a success. Your help is what we need to get the answers that we all are looking for.

Not sure but it appears that you might have a problem with your dates with Richard born 1901 and father Alvin born 1897.

In looking at census records there are 2 Alvin Camden's shown in Lincoln, Kentucky in 1900:

Here's the Alvin Fred Camden born in 1897's family:
George A. Camden, age 30 born KY
Amelia Camden, age 26, born KY (she was a Lunsford)
Emma Camden, age 9
Laura B. Camden, age 6
Cora Camden, age 5
Alvin Camden, age 2
Rosa L. Camden, age 2 mos
(also several in laws in the household)

This one seems more likely to be your Alvin Camden:
George Camden, age 52, b. KY; father born KY; mother b. VA
Sally F. Camden, age not stated (married for 32 years)
Alvin Camden, age 19, b. KY July 1880, married for 2 years
Sammy Camden, age 17
Tinsey Camden, age 18,b.KY Aug 1881,had 2 children-1 living
William H. Camden, age 2 (son of Alvin and Tinsey)

In 1910 we find Alvin and family still in Lincoln, KY
Alvin Camden, age 30
Tinsey Camden, age 28
Dickie Camden, age 8 (this is your Richard)
Girty M. Camden, age 5
Nannie Camden, age 3
Flora Camden, age 1 month

Will check my files to see if I have anything on a marriage of a George Camden from KY and Sally F. from VA. If you have a contact in KY maybe they can check marriage records for you. I have mostly VA marriages.

he was b in 1901 and d in 1974. he was buried in franklin,indiana. he married myrtle delores sanders in 1922

While I am not aware of any connection, it is a possibilty. My connection to the Camden family is when MAry Ann "polly" Camden married Stephen Defore in Lincoln County, Kentucky in 1801/1802. He was apparently murdered in 1805. His wisdow continued to reside in the county for awhile afterward. Mary Ann and Stephen moved to Owen County indiana in the 1830's. Other than that I know little of the Camden family other than what I have rad on these boards. there is some suspicion that he originally came firginia, but no irrefutable proof.

Try using the Ancestry. com free 14 day membership to check the census records. The census records back to 1850 have names of the entire family ( wife and children). This may allow you to determine whether our Camdens are the same family.

Just saw this old post of yours. You probably already have the answers by now.

As far as the two children, Nancy and Mary Ann. They are the children of my great,great grandparents William Camden (son of William Camden and Elizabeth Fitch) and Mary Polly Gibson. This was a second marriage in 1822 after his first wife Sally Salyer died. There were children from the first marriage also.

I don't have much on William Henry Camden. I have two children, Lewis C. and Lucy A. No dates of birth. There were other children listed on the 1830 and 1840 census but of course no names. William Henry was last on the Lincoln Co. Tax list in 1844 and was on the 1850 Johnson City, MO census.

I would love to have a male in my family be in the DNA program. Since I am at a total brick wall on my William Camden that married Elizabeth Fitch perhaps that would help. I'm an only child so no brothers and all of my uncles have passed away. Could we use one of my grandsons? I do have some male cousins but I don't know if I could get them to do it or not. There were a lot of Camdens in Lincoln County Kentucky also. They appear to be linked to the VA Camdens through William Camden. Also, the counties split frequently in the late 1700's and early 1800's so I think that Garrard Co. was formed out of part of Lincoln Co.

This is interesting because Mary Ann Camden (sometimes listed as MaryAn), daughter of William Camden, married Stephen Defore in Lincoln Co., KY on 2 Jan 1801. His son John Defore married Sabrina (sometimes listed as Sabina) Camden daughter of William Camden and also granddaughter of William Camden. Both couples as well as all of the Defores moved to Owen Co., Indiana in the ~late 1830's (based on land patents)

I suspect that the Sabrina and John may have been cousins, but have no proof.

As far as the William Camden (1740-1813) that married Elizabeth Fitch goes, I have his parents as John Camden (1721-1812) born in Maryland and died in Amherst,VA and Mary Ann Cash (1721-1790) born in Maryland. This info on his parents is from other online family tree information and I haven't been able to substantiate it. I also have William as being born in Port Tobacco, Charles Co. Maryland and dying in Amherst Virginia, but can't confirm those facts either.
