Alex M. Candelaria (Gpaw) was 70 years old when he passed away in his home in Oracle on March 8th. Alex was born in Golden, New Mexico on May 23rd, 1941 to Reyes and Sylvia Candelaria. He grew up in New Mexico along side his younger siblings: Cristobal, Aurelia, Mary, Veronica, Teresa, Robert and Lisa. He moved to Arizona when he was 15 years old and was well known as an avid Arizona WILDCAT fan! Alex eloped with the love of his life, Donna Daniel, on October 26th, 1964 in Tucson, Arizona. For the past 47 years they wore a single band of plain gold to symbolize their eternal love for each other. He worked for ASARCO Hayden Smelter for 36 years to support his wife and three children: Michael (Zander), Milo, and Lorena. He began as a pipefitter and retired as a supervisor. Alex was a proud member of the Gold Prospectors Association of America, VFW, served in the 1st Calvary Division in the Army stationed in Korea (1962-1964), and was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. He was very active in his Knight and Eucharistic Minister duties at St. Helen's Church in Oracle, AZ. Preceded in death by his younger brother, Cristobal Candelaria. Survived by wife, Donna Candelaria of Oracle, AZ; son, Michael (Zander) Candelaria of Florence, AZ and Milo Candelaria (Erika Franco) of Kearny, AZ; daughter, Lorena (Robert) of Rio Rico, AZ; sisters: Aurelia Utley (Grady), Mary Candelaria, Veronica Chavez (Max), Teresa Varela, Robert Candelaria, all of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Lisa Belcher (Curtis) of Moriarty, New Mexico; grandchildren: Jacob and Sydni Candelaria of Gilbert, AZ, Ciara, Hailey and Sam Lugo of Rio Rico. Felix Candelaria was my father's older half-brother. Felix's parents were Jose Candelaria and Rebecca Villescas. They lived in Arabela, Lincoln County, New Mexico.

My dad's name is Benito Candelaria. When I was at ASU in Tempe, AZ in 1970's, I used to visit with Tia Benny once a month.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leo Botello in 1989. I want to correct the information on Pablo Candelaria, He had a brother by the name of Richard and a sister Jennie (Jaunita). Father Manuel Antonio Candelaria and mother Virginia Baca Candelaria. She married again after Manuel Antonio deceased. I believe it was Manuel Antonio's nephew Frank Candelaria. They had a daughter Mary (Premia ) Candelaria. Anyone who has information about Manuel Antonio Candelaria please reply.

Sorry I just read this post after many years. I am not sure of this Pablo Candelaria born in the 1800s since I have no family history at this time. I know that kids and grandkids were named after other relatives that have passed. Hopefully with all other relatives that are connected we might be able to seperate families since we are talking about 6-5 generations with very large families. Please respond if you have any other names of brothers or children to this Pablo Candelaria so we can connect the puzzel we are trying to solve.

I just saw this post after many years. Have you been able to connect the puzzel of whom is whom and children from which candelaria family. I am aware of how family married within family based on my step grandfather Frank Candelaria. If I am not mistaken I beleive he was the newphew of my grandfather Manuel Antonio. I think my grandfather passed like in 1930 or so. After he passed sometime later he My mother was that married my grandmother Virgina. If you have other names of relatives please respond. I will make it a point to check this post regularly to try to connect this puzzel.

I live in Arizona and have never been out of the country. I don't know what i have to cross reference since i don't have access to any phone books out of the country. As i have posted I really don't know much about my father except the information that i found. My father died when i was nine. My fathers death cert states that he was born in Puerto Rico and his long form that i requested from social security listed his mother and father and their place of birth. I later found some information on the ancestry.com boards and other papers my mother had. I just want to know if any from Puerto Rico is reading my blog and can help me. I just want to know if i have family that is still living on the Island. I have posted my e-mail so that if anyone reads this they can e-mail me. I have one aunt and one uncle on my mothers side still living and well into their eighties and they remember much. Both are nearly blind and have lost of hearing. They can no help me much. I would like to have more information about the Candelaria family from puerto rico. I am currently in touch with a name from Baltimore that will be going to puerto rico and he says that he is also from the Candelaria line. The records that i need do not exits on the boards so that is why i am trying to locate anyone from puerto rico with same names. I went on the puerto rican unclaimed money boards in hopes of finding names and address for the same name but no luck.I just know that according to the records i have my father was the baby of the family and his mother was spaniard. I'm looking for the names of Candelaria,Rios, Medina and Suarez from puerto rico.

Hello I have some sketchy info as there are many Candelarias in the east of the Island. And the Candelarios are from another family line maybe related? Not sure at this time.

Ihave fmaily Ihave not seen in ages there. just look up cros refrenced phone numbers for Puerto rico under Candelaria. My father was a Candelaria and his mother has Spanard hertiage as I recall.Most of the uncles have passedon but their children are there.

I am looking for family of Maria Candelaria medina from Puerto Rico. She married Bernardo rios Y Suarez of Puerto Rico. Last known living information was Hato Viejo, Arecibo,Puerto Rico. Date of birth about 1894.

My father in law was Felix J. Candelaria, his mother was Luciana Jimenez Candelaria, but he said his father's name was Victor and they were from Rincon, Doña Ana, New Mexico. She had been previously married (?) and Amalia was her daughter. Nellie (Manuela) was a sister to my father in law, she had a set of twins! They seemed to move from that area to the San Bernardino, CA area in the late 1910's. They are listed in the Los Angeles Census for 1920 and 1930. I have been looking for my G-G-Grandfather Reyes,Reas, or Reys Candelaria b.abt 1820-25, i find him in the census at about 1850's he is with a family of Diego Gurule, and Teresa Gutierrez and with his wife? Juana Gurule b. 1832,cant's find any record that he married Juana Gurule though had 3 children from her,Atocha b. abt 1850, Adelita b. abt 1857, Manuel b. abt 1849, and then he married my Grandmother Petra Gutierrez b.1854. and she had abt. 10 children from him.long story short is that i can't find him with parents or with siblings.He was in that Santa Fe, Santa Fe Co.New Mexico area, i don't know where he was born and have no clue as to who is parents were.I see others that are doing that same tree but they have parents for him but no sources.I can't go with not have any sources. Would appreciate any info you could find me. My father was edwardo candelaria/candelario rios. I think i have found family members in puerto rico. His fathers name was Bernado Rios Y Saurez and his mothers name is candelaria y media de rios. The children names are leonor,dulcila,jose, antonio,santos and my father edwardo.This is the closet i have come to any real family. I know my father was born in puerto rico and came to the states. Last of i knew he was in California then came to Arizona and married my mother some forty nine years ago.My father seems to be the baby of the family and to date he would have been 92 years old. Doing a family tree for my daughter and my other brothers and sisters and any information would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance. One last clue that i have is that my father may have been spaniard mixed with puerto rican. Candelarias are from Arecibo an Utuado. Barrios Don Alonso and Limon in Utuado and from "el pueblo" in Arecibo.

Its a conincidence that Im looking at the website and searching my last name and come across your message. My father name is Angel and also resides in Chicago. I dont know any of his family. I barely know much about him either, I have kept in touch with him through out the years. I reside in NYC. I don't believe I have any siblings, only child between him and my mother.

My father is RodolfO Candelaria"Rudy" who was born in Butuan City, Philippines in 1937. He is the son of Paz Duqueza Candelaria and Jose Aquino Sr. he also had a half brother Ishmael Candelaria. they were brought up by their Uncles Bernabe, Arturo and Winifredo candelaria.There are only few Candelaria in my hometown of Butuan city.Luckily I have four brothers who had firsborns that will continue the family name to the future.....

Not sure if this will help you or not, however, a while back, when I was researching my family, I was able to make contact with Nach Candelaria and he provided me with the following information on his family, however,I could never find a path from my family to his family, however, perhaps maybe you can get more use out of this information than I did...He sent this information to me back in 2002 and I have not had any other contact with him...

Here is some information that I hope may be of help. First, my paternal grandmother was a Nuanes. Here's as far back as I've traced her ancestors:

Born 12/24/1869 in Los Candelarias (now Albuquerque), New Mexico
Died 10/9/1964 in Albuquerque

Her Parents

Pablo Romano Nuanez (note spelling)

Born 8/28/1841 in Albuquerque

Pablo's Parents

Andres Noanes (again note spelling)
Mother

I didn't follow the Nuanez, Nuanes, Noanes family in any more detail.

The best source of information for Albuquerque ancestors is the book "Albuquerque Baptisms, 1706-1850" published by the New Mexico Genealogical Society. The price is $45.00. If you join the Society you received their quarterly journal, "New Mexico Genealogist." Dues for 2002 were $20.00. Their address is P.O. Box 8283, Albuquerque, NM 87198-8283. They also have a website: http://www.nmgs.org. I don't know what information their website contains. Perhaps your local public library carries copies of the New Mexico Genealogist and may have a copy of the book of Baptisms. The baptismal information usually includes the names of parents so you can work your way back through the years.

If you live in Albuquerque you can visit the Society's library at 423 Central NE. They have lots of source material.
