Angela Montalvo was born in 1889 to Rosario Montalvo and Maria de Los Angeles Cantu in Cadereyta. The record states that Maria de Los Angeles Cantu was the daughter of Juan Cantu and Francisca de Leon.

ah man its so nice, to know that i have more family besides in michigan and various other states, I am the son of Marcus Salvador Cantu, he is the son of Rose Marry Hernandez, who married my Grandfather Cantu. Both I think are from Mexico, but Rose was born in Texas. My uncle is Fred Cantu, some of my aunts are Juanita, Torri, and Margret (Margret is my grandma Roses sister) and Estella, if any of those names...might of come up before, there is a large portion of Cantu's up here in michigan.

HOLA fellow CANTU's! I was born with the last name Cantu,1958. However, it was later discovered after I was 3 years old, that my father from Monterey, Nuevo Leon-Mexico immigrated to the U.S. using his Mother's surname. They got it wrong at the border when they did my father's papers to enter the country. (my grand mother was Maria Trinidad Aranda CANTU, born in either Matamoros or Monterey, Nuevo Leon) Hence, my last name which is Aranda. I'm so curious to read all the messages of folks who are intrigued by their familial history. I am a professional singer of Musica Mexicana and other latin american folk. Involved with the Oakland Museums "Dia de los Muertos"
for the last 11 years, I was also in a play where I was cast the lead as a Sephardic Jew. ( Traveling Jewish Theatre) It must be in my DNA.....would love to hear more stories. Muchas Gracias!

Hi, I'm sure there are many Cantus in General Teran. My great-great grandmother was Margarita Cantu dob 1838 from General Teran. She married Carlos Salazar Rodriguez dob 1836 they had a son Jose Segundo Salazar Cantu dob?1865,(which is my paternal grandmother's father. He, Jose married Micaela Silva Flores, which is my paternal grandmother's mother.

I too am researching Cantu Familia. My g grandfather was Jose Segundo Salazar Cantu dob July 1861 married Micaela Silva Flores in Allende, N.L. Jose's father was Carlos Salazar Rodriguez dob 1836 and mother was Margarita Cantu dob 1838 also from Allende, N.L. I am stuck with my gg grandmother Margarita I need her parents names to move forward. Any assistance you can render would be appreciated. My entire family is from Allende, General Teran, Nuevo Leon area.

It appears that you married Lucas Antonio Cantu to his mother, Teresa Guajardo. I believe you may have confused the entry. Can you find a correction for this entry #8.

Lost of the Cantu of dallas: i was reading your post im not sure if you are still looking let me see if we can connect with the info you have and my info.first of all does your grandmother have any kin folks in salinas victoria and if she does maybe she recall a name cesario b-cantu <1881>d-1915> wife name maria garcia b-<1885>d-<1953> my grandfather died in laredo texas four year after he cross in 1911. lets see if there any connection all we can do its try. thanks joe cantu

Is may be possible that your Cesario Cantu was the son of Cesario Cantu and Ignacia Cantu (married 16 sep 1881 in Monterrey. In the 1930 Census of Monterrey Cesario and Ignacia had these Cantu's living with them:

Teresa Perales F 25a
Margarita Perales F 10a
Esperirion Perales M 2a

I don't know who the Perales were.

He married Maria Manuela Quintanilla-Leal, she was born 1847. (have info on her) They had a daughter named Petra Cantu my G grandmother. They disowned her because of her marriage to Eduardo Gutierrez (military). They lived in General Bravo Nuevo Leon Mexico.
I cannot find any info on GG father Brualio Cantu.

My great grandmother was Paula Cantu. She lived outside of San Antonio in Wilson County which is adjacent to Bexar County. She married a Trevino. I have trace her maternal side to the Canary Islanders who settled San Antonio, but have drawn a blank on the Cantus.

Yes, I just received a document from my uncle that shows that Cantu's got their name in the early 1500's from Emperor Carlos I & V. Three brothers were given authorization by the Emperor to change his name from Del Monte to Cantu, the document is written in Spanish and also talks about Francisco Pizarro. I am not Cantu but have seen Herculano's baptism which lists his parents correctly but shows in grandparents as Jose Maria Gonzales and Maria Gonzales. However Herculano's civil birth shows his grandparents as Jose Maria Garcia and Francisca Saenz.

Manuel Cantu, legitimate son of Francisco Cantu (no mother named), married Victorian Rodriguez, legitimate daughter of Apolonio Rodriguez and Petra Quintanilla in Gen Teran on
24 Aug 1922.

I looked in the Informaciones Matrimonials and Civil Marriages in that time and came up empty. Manuel may be the son (baptized 3 Jan 1881) of Francisco Cantu and Anastacia Erraza but it's only a long shot.

Petra Cantu was Franciscos mother. Francisco Mi tio pancho was my great grandmother's brother. I have written a book about them, the proof should be ready any day now for me to approve. Petra's husband was Eduardo Gutierrez. Francisco's brother was Amado, Sofia his sister, Lydia Quintania was his half sister. Leandro was his half brother who died at an early age.

i suppose it is possible :) i notice that there are a lot of different spellings because we did not have the same alphabet as the lebanese people so depending on where they went, the people checking them in would sometimes spell the name the way they thought it should be spelled or the immigrant would do it if he knew basically how the alphabet worked. so if a spanish speaking person helped them write the name it might be a little different from an english speaking or french speaking person. and even different english speaking ports would have different spellings because of the different english dialects and ways of spelling names or sounds. I just know the G seems to be interchangeable with the C or K. that's all i can say :)

there are lebanese people in u.s. who have changed their names to all sorts of spellings of this name. so much so that i can't figure out what the real spelling is...since i am not from lebanon myself. and my husband, though he is of lebanese descent on both sides, does not know lebanese much...just a few words that he remembers from when he was a kid growing up around a grandmother who did not speak english very well...
