I just saw your post of 2000 concerning Lafayett Carney (b. 1838, d. 1900) son of James Carney (b. 1807, d.1855) and Eliza Betsey Roberts (b. 1807, d. 1883) whose wife was Jane Roberts Hilts (b. 1840, d. ?)
My half cousin Jack developed the lineage back to John C. Carney (b. 1766 Ballndrait Ireland, d.1829 Sparta NY) who came to the US with his brother Hugh (my progenitor) in 1791. I'd be happy to send the information to you. Sorry for the very later (12years later) reply!)
Best regards,
Charlie

Hello,I believe my 4th gr grandmother Martha or Patsy Carney b. 1771 in Norfolk was sister of Thomas Carney.
He was bondsman at her marriage to James Carney, relationship unknown. James and Patsy migrated to Kentucky where they died. Martha lived until 1866,died at 95 years of age near Richmond, Kentucky. One James Bruce married their daughter Nancy Carney here in Madison Co., KY in 1823, relationship to other Bruces unknown, but possible.

Thomas Carney - Ohio - 1845 - Civil War vet

I am looking for information on Thomas Carney born in Ohio in 1845. I am a member of the DUVCW (Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War) and we are planning to honor the Civil War Veterans buried in the Union Cemetery in Bakersfield, CA in April 2012. Thomas is the soldier I was asked to research.

I know that Thomas married Mary in Kern County California in 1874. He died January 23, 1901 in Los Angeles, CA. His father was born in Ireland and his mother was born in Ohio according to the 1850 Ohio Census. He enlisted October 18, 1864. He was a private in Co G 78 Ohio Infantry. Mustered out July 11, 1865.

I found most of my information on Ancestry and Fold3. If there are any family members that may have information they could share I would appreciate it as I would like to do justice to the life of this soldier. Also, if any family members would like to know more about the service, let me know that, too.

Thank you,
Diane
Recently I went to St. Johns cemetary in Worcester Ma. to find my gggrandfather's grave. I found it in the soldiers plot as he was a civil war veteran. I was surprised that the stone had been replaced with a new one,and on it was engraved a James O'conner and wife Myrtle Booth. On the other side was Thomases name and Co he served in.I would like to find out how they were related . Through Edmond or Ellen as I am a decendent of John Carney and dont recall any O'conner's.I know this is a long shot, but im hoping someone will read this message and know who they are
Kathleen

We are involved with Derry Museum and Fermanagh County Museum in a study of Irelans history 1910-1930. This will have an exhibition called Connection and Division in early 2012. I am dealing with the topic 'Returning Soldiers'. James Carney is one of the selected soldiers, he ended as a TD for Donegal. WE do not have a photograph, and should you be able to help we would be very pleased. I came across an obituary of James's brother which I will send you should you like it.

I believe that LeGrand V. Carney was the son of LeGrand Hargis Carney. William Carney was LeGrand Hargis' father. LeGrand Hargis Carney and his wife, Catherine Lytle Carney, had a fine home in Murfreesboro, TN.

Mary Carney Lightfoot, who died in 1955 and who is a descendant of William Joseph Carney, father of the above William Carney, was my mother's aunt by marriage. Mary Carney's husband was Frederick Lightfoot, and they lived in Somerville, TN.

I'm uncertain of the various counties in TN--hope this helps.

My mother's middle name was LeGrand, and I've been unable to uncover the source of the name. Several members of the Carney and Lightfoot families have it. LeGrand Hargis Carney seems to have been the first Carney to bear the name.

I can't help you with your question re:orgin of LeGrand, but is your LeGrand Hargis Carney related to the LeGrand V. Carney who was Second Lt., Co.D, Sypert's Regiment, CSA during the Civil War? How, if at all, is he related to the Carneys of Montgomery County, TN?

Robert Carney
