Caron Family in Ireland

Hi all,

I am a great-granddaughter of Mary Caron (or Carron, Charon), of Cork, Ireland. She was born 1891 to Thomas and Bridget Caron. I know her brother was James (died in 1992). I believe another sibling was Maura. Mary married and lived in Staten Island, NY, and passed in 1988.

I know that Mary and her husband (Albert Duval) visited Ireland when they were older, and I now have their pictures. Unforutnately, no names were on the pics. Also, I know that James visited the US at some point, but returned to Ireland.

Thank you for any hints!

Hello,

Thanks to the help of some priests at Notre Dame Cathedral Quebec, I believe I know where Robert Caron is buried.

Cote La Montagne Cimetiere (Coast Mountain Cemetery), Quebec, Canada. I found this information in an old book called Les cimetières de Québec by Roy Pierre Georges on page 12. It was Quebec's first cemetery.

Unfortunately, there are no head stones for this cemetery. I believe that there is only a plaque for the entire site. Otherwise, you would never know it is a cemetery. I still hope to go there one day.

I hope that this helps.
Don't know what you have but I find the following, some I have checked on BMS2000 but you will need to verify:

Seems that Emelie PERRON is the daughter of Theodore PERRON and Philomene BOUFFARD, this couple lived at Ste Felicite, Matane, PQ., looks like they married 5 Feb 1861 St Jerome de Matane, PQ.

From BMS2000 I see 13 baptisms recorded Ste Felicite, Matane for Theodore and Philomene's children, I haven't checked the actual images, but, I find from various census the following children: Adele b.1862, Emelie b.1863, Lumina or Malvina b.1865, Delima b.1867, Joseph b.1869, Francois b.1871, Charles b.1873, Marie b.1875, Napoleon b.1877 and Eugene b.1880. So seems some died young?

Theodore & Philomene are listed in the 1871 and 1881 census at Ste Felicite PQ, however in 1891 Theodore's wife is listed in that census as "Louise" so I checked and Philomene BOUFFARD died in 1884 at Ste Felicite and Theodore PERRON remarried to Louise PINEAU in 1888 ~ which explains the 1891 census.

In 1881 census Adele and Emelie PERRON are living together at Ste Felicite, Matane they are each recorded as
"institutrice" which I believe is "teacher".

Philomene BOUFFARD born abt 1842 maybe the daughter of Jean Baptiste BOUFFARD and Marie Louise LACROIX.

Theodore PERRON born 1 Sep 1839 Matane, Matane, PQ perhaps the son of Francois PERRON and Marie Lucie DESBIENS.

I haven't found David CARON or his marriage to Emelie PERRON.

Regards
Janice

PS: I am not related to this family.
Thanks Kath. At present, I know no more about Moira than that she was in East Africa with Harry and Der, that she came to Castlerea, Co. Roscommon about 1954, where Harry's mother, Mary, also lived, and where Harry practised for a few years; one day she told my aunt (Harry,s aunt also), that she was leaving, she left and was not seen or heard from again. (She must have had reasons unknown to others.) I don't think I will learn any more about her after all these years but if I do I will let you know.
Best wishes,
Anthony.

Mum is coming over to Ireland in a couple of weeks so maybe she will have better luck finding out more info. Julie is looking forward to speaking with you. Best wishes, Kath.

I have spend many years trying to trace my family and have been over to Ireland and met some of my Caron relatives, but the Maddens have been a mystery to me until now!
Hello Kath,
Thanks for your reply. I was a child when your aunt, Moira, was in Castlerea with Dermot and Harry but I remember her vividly. With hindsight I can see how hopeless her life must have seemed to her then. I hope she was happier afterwards. I was very sorry to kearn that Der has died. He never contacted us again after he left in the mid=sixties. They were an unfortunate family.
My regards to your mother.
Anthony Madden.

I was born in Castlerea, Co Roscommon, Ireland in 1947 and am two years older than Dermot, with whom I grew up in boyhood. His mother was Myra; I never knew her maiden name.

Looking for the death/whereabouts of NICHOLAS WILLIAM CARON (sometime "painter/glazier/decorator"). Last found at 32 Princes Street, Soho, London 1838 where wife Elizabeth died after giving birth to Emma my 2x gt.grandma. In Dec 1838 he quickly got remarried to a SARAH YATES. Cannot locate Nicholas or Sarah on any British Censuses. Can anyone help me to solve this very long-standing query?

Hi, Kath I live in Wales. Funny enough when I was in Ireland last year we met some great people from Australia who were also doing a tour or England, Ireland and Scotland! All I know is that Dermot went to boarding school in Ireland and went to stay with my grandmother in the holidays and didn't really see his father either because he was then in the UK. Dermot came to live in the UK when he had finished school. I remember him when I was a child and last saw him when I was 10. We did speak on the phone a few time over the years and lost contact with each other. Then a few years ago I decide to find him and the girls, but unfortunately I was too late as he died in 2006.

I hope you get to the bottom of the mystery, as I would love to know too! My family in Ireland don't know what happened either (I love a good mystery)!
Julie x

Hi Julie. I'm in Australia so is my Mum. Where are you? Not sure which part of Ireland she is going to - its a tour of England Ireland and Wales. My Mum was Demot's Aunt. He was my cousin. Rebecca would be a second cousin to me I guess. We have no knowledge of Dermot's mother either. Think there was some dark secret. Think things went bad when they went to Nairobi when Demot was a child. When they came back nobody from Mum's family ever saw Dermot again. Think he went to live with Henry's family. Its all a bit of a mystery to which we are slowly getting some sort of answers. Cheers for now. Kath.

Thanks, Kath I'm so excited to see these photo's, I will copy them for Rebecca, Sarah and my sister if that's ok. What part of Ireland is your mum going to visit? Do you live in the UK too?

So if I've got this right your Dermots first cousin and Rebecca and Sarah's second?

Is Dermot's mother still alive, if she is, is she in the UK because I know that Dermot had no contact with her at all.
Best regards Julie

I also emailed Rebecca whom I assume you know. I believe Bill died in the early 1980's. Mum is going to Ireland in August which I why I started searching. Thanks for your reply. I know that Dermot didn't have any contact with her up until the day he died.
Hi. Think Demot is my cousin. My mother had a sister named Moira (Madden) who married a doctor called Henry Caron. He had a brother who was also a doctor named William Caron. Moira and Henry had a child named Demot. They went to South Africa and contact was lost I believe. I am still in the early stages of research so dont know much about the Carons as yet. Cheers.

Searching for the mother of my gggrandfather Antoine Caron born 9-23-1825 in Quebec, Canada and died 08-23-1910 in Rice Co. Minnesota. The cemetery inscription for him in Cannon City, Rice Co., Minnesota indicates his father was Laurent Julien Caron and his mother was Marguerite Frigeault. Information I've found on mother Marguerite indicates she died in 1816, nine years before Antoine was born. The cemetery inscription also indicates Antoine was married to Sara Chouinard in 1848.
