He was from Bearfaulds, Roxburgh, Scotland (1715). He was married to a Lucey Wallace.
3 children I know of, John, Peter and Thomas. Thomas had a son Reuben (1774 Pendleton Co, (W)VA to 1847 Franklin Co, KY) but don't know if the other two had sons named Reuben. Wasn't my line, but descendants getting mixed into my German family. May be a place to look. Most of their descendants were in KY and then went north again to OH.

The paternal line test is YDNA, you would have to find a male descendant of this John Carr to take this test. The maternal line test is on mitochondria DNA. If you know a living daughter of a daughter (and so forth to the present generation) of Fanny Sells, you (a female) could do an mtDNA test to verify that line's mtDNA haplotype and test others to see if they have the same hoplotype, which would occur if they descend along the maternal line. Men carry their mother's mtDNA, but do not pass it on to their children. You (male or female) could also do an autosomal test, an atDNA test is not as definitive, positive means maybe you are recent cousins within 5 to seven generations, negative means don't know. Testing multiple family members and cousins has a better chance of identifying cousins since more combinations of the atDNA from each family line will be identified through each family member or cousin tested, but gets a little expensive. Unfortunately, there is no DNA test a woman can take that can positively identify if a person descends from her father's paternal line.

John Carr

Carr Family DNA Genealogy Project Admin.

FTDNA Carr Group Admin

I'm not an expert on the DNA testing, but I have read that it is only accurate through the male line. My link to the Carrs is also via all females, with the exception of my father.

There are no males in the family to do the DNA, just us females...won't the test for DNA work somehow? Forget what it is called, but women can take the test...must be figured differently I guess...you the expert, tell me how?

I am a descendant of Thomas Carr b. 1783 who I suspect is a brother or close relative of John Carr (spouse of Fanny Sells. A granddaughter of John and Fanny was listed in the household of Thomas Carr in the 1850 Overton Co., TN census.

I have submitted DNA and have found close matches with descendants of William Carr b. 1755 spouse of Martha Harris as well as several others from North Carolina, Arkansas, Texas and Tennessee.

Some of these ancestors spelled their names as "KERR" as well as "CARR"

More DNA subjects would sure be helpful in getting past our roadblocks.

The Carr Family DNA Genealogy Project includes participants from the Carr paternal line that is often thought to relate to the John Carr of Overton, Tn mentioned in the prior message. A DNA test of a male descendant of John Carr's and Ruben Carr's paternal lines would show if they are indeed related. The purpose of the project is to make connections between Carr paternal lines using DNA, which is a reliable indicator of shared recent ancestry. Consider having a DNA test done to identify which Carr families around the world are connected to your paternal line ancestry within the last thousand years. The test also identifies ancient ancestral affiliation long before the use of surnames. You can read about our project and DNA testing for genealogy, as well as how to obtain a DNA test kit at http://www.carr-genealogy.com/index.html and http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~carrfamilydna/

Have done DNA to show standard for the Henry Carr (Germany-VA). There are a total of 5 of us who show the line. One of the others is from the Joseph Carr line who was not sure that he was a son of Henry. We matched. Now no one has a leg to stand on to say that Joseph is a son of Dabney Carr.

Just looking at a John A Carr and Frances E Rutledge from TN. He was s/o John A Carr and Nancy Sigmon. Those Carrs seem to go back to NC. Don't have anything that far South in that time frame. Best of Luck!

Looking for information regarding Ruth Carr. She was born around 1890 probably, and had a son Ralph Miller in 1910. She also had Murle and Florence. Later on she married George Burchard and had a son Jerry Jay. She died when he was around 4 or 5, which would have been around 1930. I need to know who her parents were, in order to trace my family roots on her side. We are pretty sure her maiden name was Carr. She was married to a Miller, don't know his first name either, before she married my grandfather George Burchard. Appreciate any help out there.

No Lester in the family, but my Grandmother was Mary Evaletha Tuckwood Carr. There was another Mary E Carr in town and so my Grandmother always had her mail go to Mrs E C Carr, so they wouldn't get it mixed up, which they did often in Dodge City, KS.

The Solomon Carr suggested in the above answer, is a connection to my Carr line. I don't have any information on his children, but Reuben and Mary Jane are very common names in this particular line. If Solomon is married to a "Lizzie," she may be a third wife for Solomon.
Solomon was born in about 1800 in Ohio. 7 May 1818 he married Mary Carmean in Ross County, OH. He married Mary Kittle in about 1823. Lizzie may be another wife or a nickname for Mary Elizabeth(?)Kittle.

Solomon's parents are Jacob Carr and Margaret Mallow.
Jacob was b 22 Apr 1772 in Rockingham County, VA. d Mercer County, Ohio; Married 1796 Pendleton County, (W)VA to Margaret Mallow b 1772 Ft Seybert, Pendleton County, (W)VA d 1835 in Fayette County, Ohio, daughter of Adam Mallow and Eve Sarah "Sally" Bush. I have further information on both the Carr and Mallow lines.

ffejlny@juno.com

She
married David Baxter Sr. on 30 Jan 1851 in Allen County, Ohio. She died on 05 Nov 1921
in Allen County, Ohio.
31. iii. Huldah Ann Shock[1] was born on 01 Sep 1832 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. She
married Reuben R. Carr on 05 Dec 1852 in Allen County, Ohio. She died on 02 Jul 1909 in
Toledo, Ohio.
Levi Shock-4 (Mary Ann-3, James-2, James-1)[1] was born on 07 May 1828 in Somerset County,
Pennsylvania. He died on 02 Jul 1912 in Rockford, Ohio.
Notes for Levi Shock:
General Notes:
Levi was in the Grocery business and also served as a Township Trustee.
Per Levi's obituary, he was very small when he came with his parents to Coshocton County, Ohio,
and in 1846 removed to Allen County, Ohio.
Mary Jane Carr daughter of Solomon Carr and Lizzie/WO Solomon Carr was born in 1831 in Allen
County, Ohio.
