Do you have any other suggestions for me. Did Mary have a will that may list the kids?

Hello,

I'm attempting to research my family history and I seem to have hit a brick wall. My grandmother's name was Silvia Carrington and she was born in Barbados and immigrated to Panama later in life where she had my mother, Elena Carrington. Anyone with any information about the Carrington line in Barbados, especially with any Silvia's, would be greatly appreciated.

Family legends are wonderful things, but seldom live up to their colorful stories. William Perry Carrington was the 7th child (and 5th son) of Henson T. Carrington, Sr., and Mary H. "Polly" Whitaker. He was born on his family's home place in Madison County, Georgia 20 Dec 1819. Given the primitive living conditions of that era, the "home place" could very well have been built much like a log fort. So far as I have been able to determine, both the CARRINGTON and the WHITAKER families were of English extraction, and both families had been in the USA for 1 or more generations before migrating to Georgia after the Rev War and before 1800.

You will find everything I currently have in my database on Henson T. Carrington and descendants posted on WorldConnect, with source citations.
[http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...] (Omit the straight brackets)

Go to [http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~strat3926/... the brackets) to read the story of Henson's parents, Rev. Timothy Carrington and Winnifred "Winney" (King) Carrington on the LEAVES FROM OUR TREE Web site, and For Rev. Timothy's posting on WorldConnect, both also with source citations, go to [http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...] (again omit the brackets).

Patricia, if you have any questions, or find any errors for which you have documented corrections, please let me know. I always welcome additions and corrections for the information in the database.

Your name seems very familiar to me. Have we corresponded before on our mutual CARRINGTON family?

I look forward to our future correspondence and sharing of family information.

Cordially,

Diane Carrington Bradford
Atlanta, GA
4th great granddaughter of
Rev.
There were at least 4 Ephraim Carrington individuals.

Ephraim Carrington born 1755-65 Orange Co NC died 1822 was a brother of Nathaniel Carrington 1760-1830 (their parents were John Carrington and Mary Pamplin of Orange Co NC). Nathaniel and wife Anna Davis had a son named Ephraim H. Carrington born c1795 Orange NC died 1863 MO (wife Nancy Parrish). This Ephraim H. and wife had children named Ephraim born 1825 Orange NC died KY (wife Manerva Ann Tilley), Wiley born 1832 Orange NC, Emily born 1836 KY, H.H. born 1839 KY and N.A. born 1842 KY.

Ephraim Carrington #1 had a son named Morgan born 1780 (wife Elizabeth Latta) who also named a son Ephraim born 1824 died 1863 (wives Dicey Etim and Rebecca Jones).

John Carrington was a son of Nathaniel Carrington 1702-1775 Barbados and Mary Howell. There were other Nathaniel Carrington individuals in earlier and later generations as well. It gets confusing!
Gary

Are Nathaniel Carrington and Ephrian Carrington brothers? Did Nathaniel also name a child of his own after Ephrian as all dates show that Ephrian had a son Sion but he was born in 1788 which means if Nathaniel was born in 1760 how could be be the grandfather. A lot of people say Ephrian was Nathaniels son. Both may be true.
Looking for the parents of James Carrington,
James Carrington
Birth 1800 in South Carolina (possibly 1814)
Death 1851 in Roane, Tennessee, United States
son includes Thomas J. Carrington, my GG-Father
Thomas Jefferson Carrington
Birth July 3 1846 in Tennessee
Death 7 Jan 1929 in Texas, USA
A hint indicates James' father was John Carrington, but I have not been able to find any information of a John Carrington (b.@1750ish) living in S. Carolina with a son named James.

Most of the Family lines I have researched go from James to a John in Conn. I don't think this is the correct line, but cannot find any other info.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

The John Carrington who took the name of Smith was a Carrington of Carrington, Cheshire. The present Lord Carrungon;s father pub.licly stated that his family has no relationship to the Cheshire family. The present Lord is descended from Abel Smith a banker of Nottingham

Saying that this Cheshire Carrington family may be ancestors of immigrants to America has never been proved and is very misleading. Most books written about this family have got it all wrong, including Waletr Copinger who wrote his huge book to please a Smith man who had commissioned t!

Hamo de Carentan is the first one we know of, born abt 1048 in Carentan, Normandy,France, he came to England in 1066 as esquire to his uncle Hamo de Mascie(later of Dunham Massey, Cheshire) who gave him some of the lands he had been given after 1066 by the 1st Norman Earl of Chester, those lands being in Bowden and becoming known as Carrington Manor.

A group of us have researched the Carrington family and have had our tree approved by The College of Heralds.

Brenda Cox

My great great great grandfather was John Carrington Mallory, 3/2/1807-12/27/1884. His census entries show that he was born in Connecticutt. I am assuming that his middle name may the maiden name of his mother, but can find no records connected with him or with a Carrington marrying a Mallory. Does this sound familiar to anyone? John married Winifred Wetmore Halsey.

Hi Adam,

My family settled in Charlotteville. We're cousins! I've been in touch with your dad. My great uncle Hamil put me on to him. Your dad and my grandmother were first cousins. I am really trying to track a bit further back than our great grand parents. I've heard different variations of their story from your dad, your Uncle John and my cousin Robbie. Check out my family tree if you can. I think your dad may have added you to the tree. Thanks for the message! If you could fill in some of the blanks that would be great :)

For Candice,

Where in Tobago did your family settle in? My dad, Wilford Carrington (born 28/11/52) is from Charlotteville: where our family settled when his dad moved from Barbados in the early 20th century. I was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but a sizable number of us Carringtons are still living in Charlotteville.

Hi there,
I have Carringtons in my tree who originated in Derbyshire and moved down to Brighton in the 1870's/1880's. Have hit a complete brick wall with them. Samuel Carrington b 1854 in Derbyshire would have been my gt, gr grandfather. He's on the 1881 & 1891 census living in Brighton with wife Amelia and 6 Carrington children, then he disappears, I assume he died but I can't find a record and his wife just pops up with a new name and husband in 1901.
Have drawn a blank on Samuel (parents/family) and the rest of the children - the only one I have is Florence, my gt grandmother.
Does anyone have any lost Carringtons who may have moved to Brighton???
Thanks
Judith

I have the two Alfred Carringtons in my family tree that you are looking for. The two Alfred Carringtons were second cousins. Here are their lines:

My Alfred Carrington, the one who married Drucilla Hopkins:
Nathaniel Carrington, Sr., born 1702, married Mary Howell
their son, John, born 1733, who married Mary Pamplin
their son, George, born 1756, married Sophia Dunagan
their son, Alfred, born 1798, married Drucilla Hopkins

The other Alfred Carrington, whose father and mother were Nathaniel Carrington (II) and Anna Davis - his line is:
Nathaniel Carrington, Sr., born 1702, married Mary Howell
their son, John, born 1733, who married Mary Pamplin
their son, Nathaniel (brother to the above George), born 1760, married Anna Davis
their son, Alfred, born 1798

Reba

The other Alfred Carrington married Sarah Hall and moved to Lincoln county TN around 1831 and then to Marshall County, MS in 1833.

One of them was the son of Nathaniel Carrington and Anna Davis.
The military records that I referred to are available on Footnote.com. There is a record of his transfer to the 6th MS Cavalry and promotion to 1st Lieutenant. There are quite a few records and he is generally referred to as William D. Carrington. (There are also records on his brother Luther Fairbanks Carrington.

Also, on findagrave.com there is a tombstone photo in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, Lowndes County, MS (memorial # 13093753). It is a military marker and does not give birth or death dates, just his rank and unit. It's listed under W. D. Carrington.

I haven't found any information on a William Carrington that was killed at Shiloh.

I also haven't found any records of either William Davis Carrington or his brother Luther Fairbanks Carrington after the Civil War.

Tom

Hi,
What is the source of the information that you have on William Davis Carrington?

I have that he was born either about 1836 in Tennessee (1850 census) or 1831 (Daughters of the Republic of Texas Ancestor Album) instead of your 1825 in Orange County, NC. I don't think that his parents William Davis Carrington and Fanny Cozart were living in NC in 1825. By then they had moved to Pleasant Exchange, Henderson county, TN.

You indicate that he died at the Battle of Shiloh which was April 1862. The Daughters of the Republic of Texas book also indicates that he died in 1862. However, I have found muster rolls from both the 14th Mississippi infantry and the 6th Mississippi Calvary in 1863 and 1864. He originally enlisted as a private in the Company K of the 14th MS infantry in May 1861. He was transferred to Company H (Captain Richards) of the 6th MS Cavalry and promoted to Lieutenant in Feb 1864).

Tom

In 1811 Hillary and Benjamin Montgomery file for and receive letters of guardianship for James Carrington ,minor . According to this William Carrington was James Carrington 's father But don't know if the dates match our James Carrington.
I looked at your site and Mark Madison 's daughter Fredona Rainbolt was my Grandmother and her middle name was Francis with an I instead of an E .
I found an 1850 US Cenus for James Carrington of Roane TN.
I have been trying to connect the various Carrington Families together. I know that at least some of them originated in Barbados and sent to Virginia in the early 1700s. I believe another family member, John Carrington born in1733 in Barbados, lived in Orange County (no Durham) NC. Some of his descendants went to the same parts of Tennessee that Mark Madison Carrington lived. I expected that I would be able to connect Mark Madison Carrington to John Carrington who died in North Carolina, but I also reached a dead end at James and Elizabeth Carrington. According to the 1850 census, James Carrington was born in South Carolina. He and Elizabeth apparently moved to Roane County, TN about 1824.

You can see what I have on this family here http://boydroots.net/familytree/getperson.php?personID=I5392....
Many Thanks for the reply Brandon. As you can see this thread has been going for 7years and this is one of the first replies that is directly related to William Carrington !
My family line comes down from William and Hannah through Charles Carrington (1849-1908) who married Mercy Allison (1855-1918) in 1874 in Burton on Trent,Through my grandfather, another William Carrington (1884-1946)who married Doris Thompson (1897-1955)In Cullingworth west Yorkshire in 1917. Then to my father Wallace who was married to Wendy Binns in 1957 I am the youngest of their three children born 1961.
These are distant ties but all fascinating stuff !
I visited Riseley in Bedfordshire a few years ago and found it to be a very pleasant village with very helpful inhabitants !I bought a book which has a picture of a thatched house which I'm sure was where James Carrington once lived.
At the far end of the village is plot 161High Street which has a tiny thatch where our ancestor William lived , amazing to think there were once 10 people living in such a tiny house.
There are very few graves with our name on in the church yard and as far as I know , none from our line.
once again thanks for the reply

Peter
