Hello Lorraine, Thanks for your reply, Do you still live in lancashire, or has your family moved from the area, my dad settled in wiltshire, we had a large army camp there so I would imagine that is where he met my mum. I now live in bognor Regis, on the south coast. I would love to live up there and look up all the records. i have some addresses in blackburn of my great grand dad, from cencuses, I have 2 or 3 where they used to live. I would love to come up one day and have a look. If you want to ring me i would love it. My number is 01243 866851, You will have to bear with me though as I have 2 teenage sons at home and I go to work, I am always busy, so if you do not get any reply I will return your call. By the way i am 58 years old, but i am one of the youngest, The oldest is my sister who is 67. Also my e mail address is tania1950@talktalk.net,if it is easier for you.Tania

Hello Loraine, Thanks for your reply, I dont really know where to start, we are definately from the same family, it seems your mother is my cousin, I have a copy of my fathers birth certificate which gives his mother as sarah elizabeth aspden, and his father as Sydney cartman. All I know about my father is that his father remarried and he did not like his step mother so he left home. I know my mother told me that he had a brother Charlie who got kicked by a horse and died. I have found out through marriage records, (it was very difficult) that Sydney and Sarah only got married a few months before my dad was born. He was the eldest. It would seem that the photo you have would be of my dad and his brother Charlie, who was about 2 years younger. This means so much to me, as I have never known any thing about my dads family. My dad joined the army and was in Burma in WW2. He settled down south with my mum and had 7 children. I would love to see the photo if there is any way you could let me see it. I cannot get onto your family tree do you know why this is. I am sure I have so much more to tell you but I am sure it will all come out in the end. By the way my mum came up to Blackburn a few times before her and my dad had children, and i am sure she used to mention your grandmother, her name was Agnes. Please reply, I am so excited to have found you. Tania

Hello, I dont know if this is of any interest, but my grandfather was Sydney cartman, born in 1888, his mother and father were Charles w cartman and Mary j cartman. I know my father was brought up on a farm, born in 1909, fred Cartman. I can find no record of Sydney cartman on a cencus living on a farm, perhaps you can help.
Hi, I have a bess cartman b. 1813 Normanby by Spittle (near market rasen lincolnshire), again not too far from the yorkshire area. She married William Goulding and they raised a family of at least five children in the notts/lincs area. I have been amazed at how few cartmans there are around, so hopefully it shouldnt be too difficult to find her family. anyone think they have a link?

First thoughts are that there is no connection, but Bury isn't far fom Yorkshire and Cartman is name in such short supply that there may be some link. I have found Cartmans in Canada and New Zealand so far - so welcome to the league of nations!
