I'm looking for info on Herman W. Carty that settled in Miller county Missouri. He was born around 1842 and census reports show he was born in Prussia or Germany. He was married to Mary Jane Short and died in tuscumbia, Missouri in 1894. Wondering if he really came over from Germany or Prussia because he did not show up in searches in Germany. Could he have come from Ireland?

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me and appreciate the offer of help. I actually made contact with another Carty family member. He was most helpful! He's part of the Canadian Carty line.

I was even able to find info for my grandmother (Earl's wife). Something that I have not been capable of doing until now.

If there's anything I can help out with, just let me know. Oh, is this the message or do I need to look elsewhere? I'm really not familiar with this forum. Sorry.

God bless,
Carla

Lee was s. of John Wesley Carty and Mary Patrick (they moved from Russell Co, VA to Hunt Co., TX prior to 1910. Lee stayed in VA). John was s. of Robert D. Carty and Nancy Dickenson of Russell Co. I also descend from Robert D. You may be interested in my book which has all the details covering these and earlier generations.
Karen,

From what I understand King S Carty and John Henry Cashwell Sr were beneficial in financing and/or building the Evergreen Baptist Church in the area. It is either in Sampson or Cumberland County. If you Google NC Cemetery Census, you can find some of the cemetery records for the family. I spend hours at the time working on this but it is hard unless you can find family members that have information relating to a particular line of the family. Good luck.
I have yet to find proof that his name was actually King Solomon Carty but that is what people keep telling me. The only records I have found show King S or K.S. Carty. He died between 1899 and 1901 according to deed records from Cumberland County but it is like nothing else showed up for his son, K.S. Jr and King Srs. wife at the time, Amanda (Amandy). I have spent hours and hours trying to find something to show what happened to them 2 of them and his grandson King EL Carty. Good luck with your search.

I will check both sites tonight and keep an eye out for King S and Amanda Carty. I found some really interesting (very old) references to Cartie, Kartie, McCarty, Carty and various other spellings in Boston in the 1600's. There are loads of deeds and that is how I have found out how some of them are related. You can also go to the Sampson County Register of Deeds site because the deeds for Sampson, Cumberland and Bladen overlap on some of the deeds due to the counties splitting off from each other. If you find any info on King S (K.S.) or Amanda Carty, please let me know. Also, if you have trouble accessing the register of deed websites, let me know and I will try to walk you through. My personal email address is hjmctm72@att.net and I will gladly help you! I have met some of the nicest cousins on here and we now chat by email and phone regularly.

I have a John Cartey (Carty) in my family tree. He was the son of Namon and Elizabeth Cartey (Carty). These Cartey/Carty/Carters lived in the Duplin, Sampson, Cumberland County area of NC. In old deeds from Sampson Co I have found info where a Naboth Carty granted land to Jno. Carty and where Namon Carty has granted land to Jno. Carty. Have not been able to make the connection between them. Also King S or King Solomon Carty came from this line and I know he was married to Celia C Melvin and Amanda or Amandy (last name unknown). He also had a son, King S Carty Jr and a grandson named King E L Carty. I cannot find any information on his death or the maiden name of Amanda or what happened to his son and grandson. Hope they are in your same line of Cartys. Cindy McMasters, NC

Oh my gosh,I hope somebody has been able to answer this! My grandfather was Charlie Foster Carter, son of Charles (Charlie) Ralph Carty, son of Charlie Henderson Carty, son of King Solomon Carty, son of John Wright Carter, who was the son of Namon Carter. At least this is the information I've been able to piece together so far. It is like I got to a stand still when it came to Namon. When my grandfather came to Greensboro, NC he changed his name back to Carter but the remainder of the family from what I have been told kept the Carty name. Would love to share information with any of you!

I had you confused with someone from Canada. Please excuse the error.
My grandfather was Lafayette, son of William C, son of Joseph, son of James B, son of John the elder.
Joshua A was the brother of my Joseph. Both sons of James B.
So, I guess we're definitely from the same line.
My grandfather had a brother, Monroe DeSota Carty. He was married when he was underage to Clara Belcher in Missouri and they had two daughters. He then ran away with Lucy Miller to Canada and had 10 more children with her. So, there is a whole branch of Carty relations in Canada.
Is this the same family hosting the reunion?
My email address is soulard2@gmail.com and I have a facebook page if you use it.

Hi Karen,
My line from John goes James-Joshua A. Carty-Phillip P.G. Carty-Phillip David Carty-George Washington Carty(my Father)-Me.

I find Monroe's father Joseph B. Carty was Joshua's brother in James Carty's family.

My family line left Missouri for Nevada prior to 1900, working with the railroad and settling first in Winnemucca, Nv
I was born in Reno. Now live in Southern Nevada near Laughlin.

Bob

Thanks for staying in touch. I believe you descend from my grandfather's brother Monroe?
I have some really interesting speculation about the original John Carty. I think the family was in America in the 1600's in either Boston or New Jersey and for some reason he moved to North Carolina.
If you hear anything please let me know.

I lived in Carson City and Eureka. My husband was Nevada Highway Patrol in the 1970's. My father's two sisters moved to Carson City and Yerington shortly after WWII. There is some family still there and a cousin my age in northern Arizona.

Karen

Sorry I do not have more information, yet I am attending a "CARTY" Family reunion this July 31st in Quesnel, B.C. Canada. It's my first time and I hear that many B.C. residents of our tree will be there. When I get home to Nevada I will let you know if through net working we have new information.

Good Luck
Bob Carty

Hi I am also researching this family. The parents of James migrated to Australia twice, firstly in the 1860's and then later in the late 1880's. Therefore the early children were born in NSW and then the rest were born Green Island and Dunedin in NZ. The father, Charles, was hit by a train whilst crossing railway tracks at Kensington in Melbourne and there was an inquest held. From memory this was around 1890 but can check for you. The death was difficult to find because they put a space between Mc and Carty or Carthy and it wouldn't show up on searches, (I think that was why, it was a long time ago that I found it but this death elluded me for years!!!). Anyway, the wife Mary Ellen Mellor lived until 1929. I have no information on James at all other than his year of birth so I would love anything that you are happy to give me. There are a few people out there researching this family and I can give you their names if you like, and more detail about the family if you don't already have it.
Regards, Cheryl Kerr, Warragul, Victoria.
Well hopefully this info is of help, and hopefully someone may have a connection to my family.

Originally from County Westmeath, my grandfather, James Carty (1899 - 1982), arrived in New York City in 1927, I believe. He married Mary Anne Connor (O'Connor) in 1932. They lived in Brooklyn, and Staten Island in their later years.

James and Mary Anne had five children:
Mary(Maureen), Ellen(Eileen), Teresa, James, and Tommie(Thomas)

My grandfather's siblings:
Patrick, b.~1894 (also emigrated to NYC), wife Rose
John, b.~1895
Kate, b.~1896
Thomas, b.~1898
Bridget, b.~1900
Mary, b.~1903
Ellen, b.~1906 ("Nellie", emigrated to England); daughter - Irene

parents: James Carty, Elizabeth Loddick. m. 1892(?)
James' parents: unknown
James' siblings: Bernard, John
Elizabeth's parents: Patrick(?) and unknown

If anyone has any possible info that may tie into my family, I'd very much appreciate hearing from you.

Tom Carty

I too am trying to sort out the Carty's of Dent & Reynolds Co, Mo. I am descended from James G. Carty, who in the Dent Co Cem. book says was Father, Moses, Grandfather John. There are a lot of Cartys in the area in 1850 and trying to see how they relate. Is it possible to buy your book? I saw on 1850 census that a James Carty 75 and wife Sally were listed with John C. Jamison, so I guess there is a connection there also. I am also descended from the Herods of Dent Co and have see the Jamison name a lot.
