Searching for any information on the CARVER family of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

In particular any descendants of either Thomas Sidney CARVER born Winnipeg 1890 or Alice Eleanor CARVER born Winnipeg 1900. In 1930 both were living at 175 Atlantic Avenue, Winnipeg. Alice was at that time an accountant & unmarried. She visited England in 1930.

Their parents were:-
Alexandra Sophia (nee Bush born England 1865) who married Thomas Prince Carver (born England c1850) in Winnipeg, 1889.

Apart from Thomas & Alice they had 4 other children:-
Frank born & died 1893.
Eleanor Marion born & died 1894.
Edwin Francis 1897 - 1916 (WW1 death)
Harold 1898 - 1900.

Carvers of North Cove NC

my great great grandmother was Nancy Ellen Carver b. 1868 to William Carver and Rebecca Hollifield. William Carver b. 1845 d. 1904. William's parents were William Carver and Martha Jane Biddix. William b. 1808 d. 1850. His parents were Aden Carver and Nancy Lindsey. Now Aden was born in Virginia but his children and descendants were born in McDowell County NC. I am looking for any formation about this line and also in particular Nancy Ellen Carver's brother Thomas. Whom did he marry and what was his childrens name. My mom remembers her grandmother Nancy's daughter Callie Luiza Hollifield McGee coming to visit from Grassy Creek, NC to Marion, NC and saying she was walking to see "Aunt Nish". Aunt Nish was Magnishey Carver married to Roscoe "Ross" O'Dear. I am trying to find out who was Aunt Nish's Parents. Nancy had 2 brothers Thomas and Aden. So many questions I know but I wanted to give as much info as possible.

You can post here or email me. Thanks.

There is a family plot with the last names Baker/Donovan located in Holy Cross Cem. Colma, Ca.,with several family members.

One of the names on the stone is Gertrude Hess.

Unfortunatley for many years no one knew who this was ,after getting the records from Holy Cross and using Ancestry.com I was able to find out that Gertrude Hess was/is as the records show the daughter of Mary E.Donovan Demmings who is the sister of Thomas F. Donovan ,my grandfather...

Mary Donovan Demmings and Thomas Donovan also had 3 other brothers and 4 other sisters : Charles,John,Robert,Gertrude,Annie,Rose and Helen (sometimes called Nellie)

I dont know if you looked at my tree but please feel free to do so... so even thought there is a wide gap ..a VERY wide gap in ages ,Margaret Hess Carver could/would be my 2nd cousin and you could/would be 3rd cousins...

Please feel free to contact me at wvhzd1@sbcglobal.net..

Vic Donovan

I am interested in these Carver's. I am a descendant of Richard C. Carver b. 1796 in SC, who I believe served in the war of 1812 and received a pension from it. He moved from SC to Benton Co., Missouri (census of 1820), then was in Washington Co., MO (census of 1830), St Francois Co., MO (1840), and back to Washington Co., MO (1850).

I keep coming back to Richard Carver in VA then SC who would be the appropriate age to have a son b. 1796. I wonder if there is any information on Richard or any of the other men of Spartanburg/Pendleton/Pickens Counties, SC and their descendants?
I see differing parentage assigned to Richard Carver b. 1764 in VA but nothing to give me a clue as to where the information comes from.

Thanks to those who are still working the Carver lines and reply to this old thread. :-)

Dece Gherardini

Audie Brower married to Walter Calvin Winter.. Had four children, I believe three of the names of the children were Charity Ann, Lawrence and Howard. This is by memory and I don't remember the fourth childs name. Sally Brower (CARVER) was Audie,s mothers name... Believe that Ewin T. Brower was Sally's husband... Walter Calvin Winter & Audie moved to Idaho and Audie died In Idaho when the children were very young. Walter Calvin brought the children back to Missouri and left them with Sally Brower, their grandmother and she raised them. Walter Calvin left to find work and sent a few checks for support and after that he disappeared and Sally never heard from him again. Edward Carver was married to Grace Brower (Edward was Sally's brother) Edward Carver was my grandpa Carver's brother. Most of these names listed above have a connection to HOWELL COUNTY MISSOURI. Delila Ann Turner and Felix Lambert Winter were the parents of Walter Calvin Winter....... Brenda & Floyd Robinson

I have my father's records and am trying to get a little farther back but am not sure if I have the right family. What I know for sure: Theo Carver (b 1901 TN)'s father was William Carver (b. abt 1872- teacher and doctor) who married Eliza Henry (from the Henrys of NC); His father in turn was, I believe, William Carver who married Mary Ann Sturgeon from Switzerland, IN. I would really like to have confirmation of who this William Carver's father is. I have found Johan William Caver as a strong possibility but I cannot be sure. Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you. :-)

However, while I'm a blogger for another interest and I'm on several genealogy email lists [not message boards because mostly they're pretty cumbersome; I only get these because the message boards are gatewayed into the email list], I haven't worked my way up to Facebook. After fifty years of genealogy research, my objectives in my research are very specific because I have ancestors from seven different countries.

I admit, the whole invasion of privacy thing on Facebook puts me off. I don't wish to be targeted by spam advertising, and part of the privacy agreement one must agree to includes granting permission to be tracked for targeted advertising (yes, I took the time to read the proposed agreement). The last Facebook version that came out seems like it's going to be worse than previous versions, according to the last article I read just yesterday.

Facebook will have to be a lot more user-friendly and ad-free and cookies-tracking-free before I consider joining.

I'm considering giving up TV altogether since there is now at least 18 minutes of advertising for each "one hour" TV show. Advertising is the reason I refuse to get cable; I don't see the logic in paying to get ads I can get for free with rabbit ears on a couple of analog channels that are available out in the dingtoolies. If I pay for TV, it has to be ad-free. I only watch six or fewer TV shows per week anyway, so paying for ad-filled shows would be a waste of money.

At this point in my genealogy research, the one thing that would help is if the US (on a federal and state and county level) would put images of documents online for free (minus stupid ads!) like a couple of countries where I do the most research now (paid for by the taxpayers of those countries). Those countries have me spoiled because I get to see and/or download images of actual documents, and I love working from good copies of original documents.

I appreciate the consideration of knowing the Facebook page is there if I change my mind.
I am looking for information on a Carver who was born in North Carolina, migrated to Tennessee and then to Missouri. The only reason that I have his approx. birthdate and where he was born is due to the census in Mo. His wife was listed as Mary (LNU) which I also gleaned from the Census. They are my husband's 3rd great grandparents and I have been trying to find out more info on them forever it seems. My husband's father's middle name was Richard after his grandfather who was named after his grandfather I will tell you what I know and if you can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I do appreciate all those who are willing to lend a hand in our research. I will be happy to share what I know about Richard's family if anyone is interested.

Richard Carver born 1796 in North Carolina. He married Mary (LNU). They had 4 known children who were all born in Missouri. Joseph L., George Washington, Malissa Ann, and Alexander. I know this isn't much to go on but it is all I know for now. If I had Mary's maiden name, it may be a lot easier.

Thanks so much.

Where in Massachusetts?

Carver, Clifford Nickels, Litt. B. The Carver Family of New England: Robert Carver of Marshfield and his Descendants, Privately Printed, 1935.
pp 67
Seth (who settled at "Great Egg Harbor, N.C.") [could be a typo?], son of Nathaniel Carver (and his first wife, Mary Lazell), son of (Deacon) Eleazer Carver (and his wife, Experience Blake), son of John Carver (and his wife Millicent Ford), son of Robert Carver (and his wife Christian, surname unknown).

Robert Carver was of Marshfield, MA, and was the nephew of Gov. John Carver, first president of "Plimouth Plantation" and a Mayflower passenger and signer of the Mayflower Compact. Robert was NOT on the Mayflower, and his uncle John who died the spring following the Mayflower's landing had no issue. John's brother, Isaac Carver, was the father of Robert Carver. Isaac and John Carver (who were both born in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England) had gone to Leiden, Holland when they became Separatists. Isaac stayed in Leiden and died there.

I don't know if that will help your research or not.
Carver - Morrison Connection?

I am grasping at straws but maybe someone in the Carver line can give me a clue. I have hit a brick wall at my 4th Greatgrandfather William Morrison b. ca.1768, thought to be born in the Frederick Co. VA. area. I have some doubts on VA. Maybe PA or even New England. Anyway, my 3rd Greatgrandfather is Isaac Carver Morrison. Because of the "Carver" middle name, I suspect that his Grandmother or Greatgrandmother was a Carver. Also possibly his Greatgrandfather on his fathers mothers line. If anyone knows of a Carver Morrison connection I would greatly appreciate the help.

I am helping a friend of mine with her Carver family. I believe your
grandfather came from the David E. Carver family. His Wife was Mary
Amanda Bryson. They had a son named Edward. David and Amanda both were
born in 1864. 1900, 1910 census they are in Anderson county S.C. 1920,
they are in Wilkes county Ga. Can't find them in anymore census, or as I
tell my friend, yet. She said David died in Fla. so that fits yours too.
He lived to be 100 or over. When and if I find more, I will let you
know.
Thanks, Diane Roberts
Re: WILLIAM CARVER _ Outlaw

William Carver of The Wild Bunch
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Carver_%28Wild_Bunch%29

Will Carver was shot by a sheriff at Sonora, Texas on April 1, 1901, died the following day on April 2, and is buried in Sonora, TX. There was an old west magazine that had a photo of his grave marker sometime back in the mid-1980s.

It's my understanding from Donna Ernst who wrote a biography about him that Will Carver descend from a Carver line that emigrated from England to Pennsylvania about the late 1600s or early 1700s; from there, various people migrated westward. It's my understanding that there is now a suburb named Carver, Pennsylvania named for their family.

Here's Donna's web site, along with a timeline of William Carver's life, dates, parents' names, relatives' names, etc. He had several relationships, his first wife died six months into the marriage of pregnancy complications, but he doesn't seem to have fathered any children that I can see any mention of. To authenticate your own genealogy research, you will have to get your own documents, of course.
http://willcarver.150m.com/

Donna gives info about the biography she wrote about Will Carver, and links to other web sites, and her email address is listed.

Here's a web site with a face photo of Will Carver's dead body.
http://www.truewestmagazine.com/stories/will_carver_checks_o...

Here's a copy of Will Carver's headstone. It only lists the date of death. Link to list of graves first, then link to photo.
http://www.cemphotos.com/tx/tx-sonora/
http://www.cemphotos.com/tx/tx-sonora/FAMOUS_OUTLAW_CARVER_W...

Scroll down for alleged signature of Will Carver from 1895:
http://www.sonora-texas.com/history.htm

Hope these links help you. Probably the best contact will be through Donna Ernst and her info since she had to research the family for her book.

[I only know this info because I have an ancestor named Wills (with an s ending, not short for William) Carver who descends from Robert Carver, nephew of Gov. John Carver of the Mayflower. I was curious about the name, contacted Donna, and found out her info. I know I am definitely not related to the Philadelphia Carvers since they came from an entirely different area of England.]
Yes, I have considered that he might have married before. But I came to the conclusion that he had not. Elizabeth was b. in 1775. They generally married at about 18 or 20. So the married about 1793 to 1795. The girl on the census would have been born between 1790 to 1799. I have the first child as unknown b. abt.1795. The 1800 cen. shows a boy and a girl 1-10.They could be Elizabeth's. Where did she go? Married or died? The info that most have on Christopher's children came from, I believe, Jay Webb.I might be wrong without looking it up. Christopher didn't go to NC until after the end of the war. I figure around 1783. Since he and Eliz. didn't marry intil at least 1793 I guess it's possible he married before. But no one has ever found any marriage record for him and Eliz. or anyone else. I have Thomas b. abt. 1800 and David b. 1803. I don't have any other info on Thomas. Some people do but I could never verify any of it so I left it off. I am from David C. who was in Haywood Co. I'm pretty sure about his birthdate.

Christopher Carver and 2 wives??

I wanted to mention something that had been on my mind regarding Christopher Carver....Does anyone else out there think he may have had 2 wives? I first noticed a 'problem' when looking at the kids birthdays - there is a gap of about 8 years between David and Thomas. Seems odd to me that you would practice birth control for 8 years then go on to have 6 more children!! I'm guessing he married and had 7 children before she died (probably in childbirth) then after 7 years or so met another woman (Elizabeth Whisenhunt?) and had the other 6. This is just speculation at this point - but I absolutely cannot account for the 8 year gap in any other way, unless it was one heck of an argument?? Another thing worth mentioning is that I am certain he had a daughter born abt. 1787 as she is clearly in the 1800 census as "female 10-15". Interestingly, I have not found her in any of my member connections. I added her as 'unknown'.

Clyde Harvey Nickey, need his wife’s Anna S. --?-- maiden surname

Clyde Harvey Nickey (b. about 1875 in Paw Paw, Lee Co., IL) 2nd wife according to the 1910 U.S. Federal Census was Anna S. --?-- (b. about 1874 in PA). This source also indicates her parents were born in Pennsylvania. They lived in 1910 in San Francisco, CA. She died or they divorced before the 1920 U.S. Federal Census. Clyde’s 1st marriage was to Cala (Callie) Carver around 1899 in Lee Co., IL. She died, possible due to childbirth, in Orange Co., CA in 1901. Clyde then moved to Los Angles Co., CA sometime after 1900. After Anna he married several more times and moved again to Orange Co. and then Los Angles Co., before his death in 1938.

Clyde is my second cousin twice removed. He has me treading water with his numerous wives and relocations between Censuses. What is Anna S. --?-- maiden surname, what County in Pennsylvania was she born in, where did they got married, who are her parents, etc. It is possible that the “S” in her name is the starting initial of her maiden surname or a past married surname. Any information on Ann would be very helpful and appreciated.

Possible Ancestral help: Clyde’s parents are Franklin Pierce Nickey (b. about 1853 in East Berlin, Adams Co., PA) and Mary Emma Wilcox Alvord (b. about 1854 in Princeton, Bureau Co., IL). Franklin’s parents are Henry L. Nickey (b. about 1820/21 in East Berlin, Adams Co., PA) and Elizabeth Deardorff (b. about 1827 in York, York Co., PA). Franklin move moved probably to Illinois sometime before 1874 and then to California in the late 1800’s.

My genealogy efforts are limited to the Nickey surname descendants and spouses of George Niecke (b. about 1710 in Saxony, Germany), the first Nickey in North America. I have currently identified the existents of 1,227 surname Nickey’s and spouses of Georg Niecke I have no desire to publish this information for profit. My work is far from complete, but I’m willing to share everything I have. Due to my age I’m eager to locate individuals that will possibly continue and share this information.

Best wishes, Bradley (Brad) Baer Nickey.
Would these Carvers be related to Virginia Carvers? The names Reuben and Cornelius are in my Carver line as well, but I have no evidence they went to Georgia, but to TN and KY.

BTW, dates would be nice.

Thanks.
