Re: Jose Manuel Casanova's 1884-1949 lineage from Pinar del Rio, Cuba

Hello, I have a very good feeling we have a common relative!

My grandfather's name was Jose Manuel Figueroa Divino born in 1920 in Havana, Cuba. He took his mother's last name at birth since his father was unknown.
His mother was Maria Rosa Figueroa Divino born in 1890 in Havana, Cuba.
Maria's mother was Pilar Divino y Casanova born in Bahia Honda on 9/25/1867 and died in Havana in 1953. (She was my great great grandmother).

I have a very strong feeling that your grandfather (Jose Manuel Casanova Divino) and my great great grandmother Pilar were related since both were born in Bahia Honda.

When my grandfather was alive, there were rumors that the Divino Casanova was a very well off family and disapproved of Pilar marrying my great great grandfather Jose Figueroa Feliu (born in Havana) and apparently Pilar and her husband went to Habana and were estranged from Pilar's family ever since.

Given the common names and last names, I am almost certain we have a link somewhere! I look forward to hearing from you.

Help! I am looking for my grandmothers family. Her name is Dominico, or Minnie" and she came from Calabria and to the US around 1908 with her sister Giovanna or Jennie. They settled in Niagra or the Buffalo area of NY, so I am guessing there were relatives living there already. Dominica married Dominco, or Dominic(k) Connaccio (the Ellis Island spelling) or Corraccio, or Carrocci and Giovanna married Dominic Mercurio. They all moved to Rome, NY to start and raise a famil. In the early 1930's they all moved to San Jose, California. If you have any information, it is greatly appreciated. Please email me at elainehathaway94@hotmail.com

Is your grandmother still living? Does she recognize anyone on my listing?

My "best guess" is that the Casanova's in the list were in Bluefields, Nicaragua, during the mid-1920's. I would not be surprised if they were all Moravians (a small "main-line" protestant denomination), since my grandparents were serving as missionaries for that denomination at that time.

Dave

I meet your dad a few years back when i was visiting my cousin Al Mendoza, also a cousin of yours. Your dad Larry told us your uncle in Florida has most of the genealogy info. I was never able to make contact with him.
What info are you looking for? I have some information and will share anything I have. There's always a genealogist in each generation you just have to them!
Looking forward to hearing from you cousin! Lorretta Cadena Creelman :)

CASANOVA Louise Towt 1933-2010
Louise T. Casanova 77, died peacefully in her home on Friday, December 3, 2010.

Louise was born in Zanesville, Ohio on November 5, 1933.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert S. and Helen A. Towt; sisters, Barbara Williams and Helen Towt. She is survived by Richard, her husband of 54 years; children, Richard, Jon, Sara of Tucson, Daniel Wolf of Chugiak, Alaska; grandchildren, Ian of Tucson and Nicholas of Waco, Texas; nephew, Thomas Nottingham Williams III of Potomac, Maryland.
Louise was a 49 year resident of Tucson, Arizona during which time she touched the lives of many people both professionally and as a community issues advocate.
She was the first Pima County Emergency Medical Services Coordinator and ushered in the Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic Programs and played a role in the early development of the Tucson Hospital Trauma System.
She also helped to upgrade rural fire department capabilities through the acquisition of federal and state grants for training and equipment.
Louise was active in local party politics and was involved in various election initiatives and campaigns of several local officials from 1962 until her retirement in 1987.
As a strong education supporter, she served as President of Rogers School PTA, President of The Tucson PTA, Montezuma Council and was a life member of the Arizona PTA.
She was a tireless advocate for the developmentally disabled and was a five year member of the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities.
A staunch supporter of local law enforcement, she was always available to fight for the retention of their programs and services.
One of her most notable accomplishments in this area was her success in securing the support of the Tucson City Council for the retention of the School Resource Officer Program after the initial pilot program was ending and funding became an issue. She also helped improve Emergency Preparedness statewide and was a past President of the Arizona Emergency Service Association.
The list of her accomplishments might fill a novel, but in short, Louise was a dynamic mover and shaker of her time who cared about her community and the well being of its people and did something to make it better and safer. Private Funeral Services are pending.
Remembrances may be made to Carondelet Hospice and Palliative Care.
Arrangements handled by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

Arizona Daily Star

Tuscon, Pima County
Muskingum County

Rest in peace, Weezie. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family in Tucson.
much love,
Elizabeth Williams Edmunds and Katherine Williams
grand-nieces
~ Richmond, Virginia

My ggg-grandfather's first name was Stamatellos (Stamatios), last name Casanova.
It's not the same family I'm afraid.
How is your Greek?
If you would like, I can invite you to my facebook group. I put it together for more serious Greek genealogists and the reason I'm inviting you is because I've got lists there of tons of digitized books on Chios that you may be interested in.
I've also got the website link to Chios digitized archives.

http://srv-gak.att.sch.gr/browse/collection.html

If you're interested in my facebook group, search for "Serious Greek Genealogists Only" It's a lame title I admit :)

Hi my grandmother was a Stamatellos and was from Chios. I would be interested in what names were in your family tree with this surname around the late 1890 and early 1900's to see if there is an overlap.

My Grandfather is Timoteo M. Casanova. Look under Timoteo Casanova + bexar or cameron county. Then scroll down to Cayento Guerro then click and you will find about 8 generations of family the Casanova's start about the 7 generation.

The original bloodline of Casanova that setteled in San Antonio/Elmendorf are Spanish from the Canary Islands. Casanova's were among the first group to settle in Bexar. Half of my blood line is from this group while my other is native German (Bavarian). I identify myself as a cauacasian of European descent......Hispanic is not a race, but a loose based general ethinicity term.

hope this helps,

Frederick Casanova, M.S.

It seems that we share the same father, Reno Peter Casanova, born in Chicago, Illinois. Reno's parents were Pietro (Peter) and Josephine Casanova. Yes, they did migrate to the United States from Italy, and ended up in Venice, California. Reno was not a well man - he died many years ago.

My other brothers are: Raymond, William (Bill), and Richard. Bill also died several years ago.
