Hello.

While doing some work to our home in Charlotte NC, we came across some personal items and handwritten letters from 1927 between Gordon Cassidy and friends of his in Bridgeport CT (Harry ____ and Helen Crowe).

It seems, from the letters, that his parents moved to Charlotte from Bridgeport and he came here hastily in 1927 to be with his ill mother.

We're trying to find anything out about him and hopefully locate any remaining family to share his things with them. The letters would be quite special to someone who is related...

If you have any more info from what you came across here, we'd love to use it as a lead.

Thanks so much!

hi i have info for you on James and Richard. They were my mothers step brothers . There father Irwin was my mothers father too. No one knew about my mother .Irwin got my grandmother Peggy olson pregnant and he was married at the time so when my mother was born Peggy left her in my great grandmothers hospital Alta Bates founder of Alta bates hospital in berkeley ca, so Alta bates raised my mother. I took care of my mother the last 11 years she was alive ,she died in 2008 in Oakley cal. and one year before she died i got a phone call from James and Richard Cassidy claiming to be my mothers half brothers. I was shocked to find out that my mother had 2 half brothers . My mother said she didn't know about them until the day of her father s funeral when she was at his funeral she was introduced to James and Richard .My mother never told me and never again seen them or talked to them until the day they found her when i answered the phone. So we went to James home in walnut creek cal. a few years before she died. Mary k. Cassidy was there and told us she knew about my mother all those years but never said anything to anyone about her out of shame for her husband. my mother only saw her father once a year on Christmas for one hour. She never asked him questions on those visits so she had no idea that he had another family some where . hope this helps and yes my mother should be added to the cassidy family tree please she deserves to be added and acknowledged. signed Cynthia Alta Olson Heth, daugther of Joanne Cassidy her date of birth was 1-25-1932 born in berkely ca. at Alta bates hospital.

Thename is indeed Irish. The Cassidy brothers entered into a serious disagreement and the end result was that they each changed their last names just slightly so that they could tell folks they were not related. This all took place in Chillacothe, MO and in Grundy, Livingston County.
My greatgradfather moved from Chula, MO to Garnett, KS to get away from it all.

I am looking for info on my Grandfather, and I am afraid I don't have much to go on. He died in the early 70's, and was born around 1910 and lived in either Enniskellin or Belfast before coming to the U.S. He had a twin brother who was killed, and I am told the event was so traumatic for him it caused him to be bald. He married Maureen McGovern, who lived in Swanlinbar, County Cavan Ireland before coming to the U.S. I believe they met and married in the states, and lived in Dobbs Ferry N.Y. He was a butcher at Dobbs Ferry market. I think it was called the A&P, but not positive. They have 3 children, Peter, Virginia, and John. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Pat.

Thanks for getting in touch and clearing up Ed's occupation.

I understand that it was the Cassidys who emigrated to Australia who persuaded my great great uncle, Bill McConnell, to take his young family there after his wife died. One of Bill's daughters and I correspond at Christmas so I'll let her know that I've been in touch with the US side of the family.

My great great grandmother, Mary Cassidy McConnell, was George's sister, the youngest of the family as far as I'm aware. If you would like any info on her family you have only to ask. I also have info on other Cassidy lines that you may or may not have. I've received the same document from about 3 different people with Cassidy lines in it, so it's possible you may have received the same one at some point.

Good to hear from you and if would like anything please drop me an email.

Regards.

Ian McConnell

Just saw this post and you may already have loads of information about Ed Cassidy. My grandfather was Edward Cassidy, born in Donegal, Ireland in October, 1889. He died in 1972. However, he was not a policeman in Virginia. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad; his son, my father (also Ed) lived in Virginia (but not a policeman). From what I understand, my grandfather and his brother George were the only children of Isabella and George who did not immigrate to Australia, so your cousin probably kept in contact with Ed's other siblings in Australia as well! I have created a family tree on this site with loads of info and a few pictures. I will attempt to attach a picture of Ed (my pop pop)!
Thanks, Pat Cassidy Barr

The original family nmae was CUSHNAGHAN.

I can tell you that Ballyhaunis is in Mayo, not Antrim so you might like to try the IRELAND message board, MAYO board if there is one and visit the CASSIDY CLAN website where I made many useful contacts.

Good luck with your research,

Frank
