Found this in my old files.
Anyone know if the story was ever published?
Could Vincent contact me
=
Subject: [ACADIAN] Acadian to Tahati
I found the note on our cousin Pierre Paul Caissy who went to the South Seas.
Anyone descendent or closely related?
I know i said Tahiti but I was close.
Paul
.
Sent: Fri, Dec 3, 2004 2:57 pm
.
Pierre Paul married Francoise Bedel in St Servan on January 3, 1786. A son Pierre Michel was born on November 5 1786, in St Servan. The records show that he was baptized the following day and that his father was absent, no reason given. Pierre Michel died on 3 Feb 1792, in St Servan. (I have a photocopy of that record) In 1788 Pierre Paul embarked on the ship Le Conte de la Lucerne, as a sail maker, on a voyage to what is now Mauritius Island and although he was to return to France, he never did. Paul was counted in a 1796 Census on Mauritius (Ile de France as it was then known) and his profession listed is that of "maitre de danse" (dance instructor). He died in Mauritius (Riviere Noire) in January of 1825. We do not know what happened to Francoise Bedel. Perhaps she died before 1788 and it might explain why Pierre Paul sailed away. Mrs Marie Quessy/Owen of Sydney, Australia, a direct descendant of Pierre Paul has done some excellent research in France and in the Seychelles and Pierre Paul's history is well documented. The Quessy of Australia, Mauritius and Reunion Island are descendants of this Pierre Paul. The history of that branch of the family is fascinating and I hope that Mrs Owen will soon publish her research.
.
Vincent
Hello again Ena,

You must think I'm glued to my PC; well, actually yes, at the moment I'm working hard to complete a Cassy Family history for my mother's 90th Birthday in December. Her mother was Jane Elizabeth Cassy, born in Shefield.

The Cassy family changed its name from Cassie to Cassy with George Cassy born 1795 in Duns, but this was more by accident than design.

I have managed also to get back to Andrew Cassie (1758) and Jean Hill (b. c 1763) and from Andrew (1758) back to his father James Cassie (1717) who married Alison Wadie (1726) in Gordon in November 1750. It looks like James Cassie had a father Andrew Cassie born abt 1690 but I cannot get back farther than that.

Moving forward to James Cassie (1786). I have quite a bit of information regarding James and his marriage to Catherine Dickson in about 1818. The exact marriage details I cannot find at all and so the date of 1818 is a guess.

The marriage in 1818 was James' 2nd marriage. I suspected that his first wife was Agnes Golightly and that they married around 1812 in Langton, Berwickshire. Your last message confirms this to be the case.

Would it be possible for your to get in touch with me directly? You can do this by mailing me at ric@sparky.uk.net.

I would like to confirm what little I know about Agnes and James. I can also provide you with more definite dates and references regarding many other Cassie individuals if this helps you too.

My best wishes,

Ric

Hello again, Thanks for the info and extra children. Janet Cassie, born 1857 Scotland died Alnwick 1936, was my husband's great grandmother. Her grandparents were James (born 1786) and Agnes Golightly. James parents were Andrew (1758) & Jean Hill. You said that your grandmother was a Cassie and I presume that she has some connection to the George you were asking about.
I have just found a Cassie tree on Rootsweb who were also in the same area as Janet and her family in the 1870s but as yet have not done any confirmation work on this family.
Please keep in touch and if I discover anything I will let you know.
Regards Ena

Hello Ena,

Since posting the note I have been able to track down a few more details - which might also help you too.

Andrew Cassie was born 30 Apr 1758 in Gordon. I do not have a date for his death. Jean Hill was born abt. 1763 and died 13 Feb 1834 in Duns.

They married around 1782 but I have not been able to find any record of that marriage. It is possible that Andrew and Jean married over the border into England - but I haven't found any marriage record there either. So the marriage is still a mystery.

They had eight children:
Helen Cassie 1783
James Casssie 1786
Jean Casie 1788
John Casey 1791
George Cassy 1795
Andrew Cawsey 1798
Alison 1801
William born 1805
Margaret 1808

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ric

My line goes back to Andrew born 1758 Gordon who married Jean Hill. I found 6 children Helen, 1783, James 1786, Jean, 1788, John, 1791, William 1805 and Margaret 1808. As there is a gap between John & William it could be that Goerge fits in here. I don't know where you live but Scottish death certs give parents info so that could help. If I find a link I will let you know.Where do you fit into the Cassie/Cassy family?
Regards Ena

George Cassie b. c1800

Hi,

I am hoping someone may be able to help...

I have been researching the Cassy (Cassie) family from Scotland. A number of researchers claim a link that I am unable to prove. I am therefore quite worried about what appears to be a very weak link in the lineage of the early Cassy (Cassie) families from Scotland.

I have George Cassy (b. about 1801) from Kelso, marrying Agnes Bolton. There is a marriage 1 Feb 1827 shown in the IGI but no parents are shown. "Scotland's People" has no reference to a George Cassy (or Cassie) born around this time...

The census records for 1841, 1851 and 1861 show George Cassy residing in Kelso. He is a butler; later retiring to a residence in the same street:

1841: Belmount Place, Kelso, Roxburghshire (Roxburghshire, Scotland) b. c1801

1851: 28 Abbey Court, Kelso, Roxburghshire (Parish of Dunse, Berwickshire) b. c1801

1861: 5 Abbey Court, Kelso, Roxburghshire (Parish of Dunse, Berwickshire) b. c1796

The census and other records show definite connections to my grandmother (nee Cassy), so the lineage from George Cassy and later dees not concern me.

Some researchers (particularly on Genes Reunited and Ancestry.co.uk) seem to think that George is the son of Andrew Cassie and Jean Hill (m. 24 Jul 1786) in GORDON. However I cannot establish any definite connection whatsoever between George and his father Andrew Cassie and his wife Jean Hill.

The earlier lineage from Andrew Cassie (bap 30 Apr 1758) through to Andrew Cassie (b. 1690c) concerns me less; most Cassie individuals are connected with GORDON and I have found much of the information already from Scotland's People. It's the weak link regarding George Cassie's parents that I an interested to establish. If I cannot establish that link then the prior lineage pretty much falls apart.

So… any advice how to proceed? Anyone able to provide a connection or even a hint of a link?

Regards,
Ric Morte
In 2003 you were looking for information about Ebenezer Cassie who moved to San Diego. Ebenezer was the father of Leslie Cassie as you know. Leslie Cassie had a son named Leslie R. Cassie who married Helen Warren. They had two children Thomas (married Barbara Bush) who had two children (Robin and David) and Jame Cassie who had I believe one child, Chad Douglas. My father, William Ian Cassie Sr, used to correspond with Leslie R. Cassie. I believe that Thomas and James were in their twenties in the late sixties. The source of my information is notes that I made from my father's memories and a 1980 copy of "The Cassie Family" by George M. Cassie. Hope this helps.

Ebenezer was the brother of my great grandfather, George Cassie.

My Dad is George G. Cassie, from Ontario, Canada, but the 'George Cassie' from Ontario, Canada, mentioned in your email, was my Grampa.
He compiled two Cassie geneology books dating back a few hundred years at least, if memory serves rightly, and the majority of his discoveries were made by hand-written or two-finger-typed letter correspondance--he saved his green thumbs for the garden, rather than a space-bar--sans computer!
Very much missed since last summer, & visited
often in my dreams.
There are two male Cassie's in San Diego California. Their father's name was Leslie. His father emmigrated to Calf from Scotland. I believe that he (the grandfather) was my father's uncle.

I expect that you could get the co-ordinates of the San Diego Cassie's on the internet. When I was there in 1999 I looked up the name in the phone book and there were some listings. It is not exactly a common name.

Ian

Hi

I'm in Canberra, Australia and would like to find some information on my maternal grandmother's family. My grandmother came to Australia in 1913, her name was Elizabeth Cassie and she came from Aberdeen. Apparently her mother's name was also Elizabeth. My grandmother had at least one brother and perhaps two sisters - one called Meg (we have no photos and everyone from my mother's family is dead). My grandmother's family may have lived on a hunting lodge outside Aberdeen where her father (or stepfather) worked.

That's as much information as I have. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Cassie Book

The book is by George Cassie, wife Millie, who lives in Ontario. I have a copy. Most of the Canadian Cassies live in Ontario but one lot did go west in the 20s, first to Alberta, then BC, where Frank Cassie and his wife (nee Cameron) settled. There was a Jean in that family too, but a Cameron I believe not a Cassie. Frank and his wife had five children, only one of whom is now living. They were George, Frank C., Margaret, Mary and Joyce.
