I am trying to find out anything about Mark Casson, b01/Dec/1835 in Kinniside, Harrington, Cumberland, England after 1881. I cannot find census or death records after this date.
Mark married Martha Ray in 1862 at the Register Office in Cockermouth. They had three children, James b1864, Barbara Ann b1862, d1862 & Sarah Ann b1867.
I would welcome any input as to where & when he died, and where he was after 1881.
Mark is my GGgrandfather.

Hi Adam

I just read your post from 2009. The Cassons you are searching for are also my Cassons. I have been researching them for many years and have a lot of information. I am assuming since 2009 you may also have a lot. Please let me know if I can help.

Regards

Ian

Dear KG:

How fascinating to find those two names together on a postcard with a Philadelphia connection! Unfortunately, I have no idea who "Mrs. Hardcastle Hart" was, but the rarity of those two names together suggests a connection to my grandfather's family. I will make a note of the names in your e-mail and, if I ever find a link to "Alice" or "Helen" in my family, I will let you know. Thanks for your inquiry.

Sincerely,
C.
Sir/Madam: I recently bought at an antique shop in CT an old post card from 1955 addressed to Mrs. Hardcastle Hart, 1912 Spruce St., Philadelphia. In googling the name & city, I found my way to your link. I am fascinated with old post-cards and the history of the sender/receiver. The picture post-card was of a street in Paris (including the Continental Hotel) and was written by "Alice" while in Paris to "Helen". The evening before she sent the card, Alice had seen the Philadelphia Orchestra's premiere at the opera house. Do you have any history? My best, KG

Hello John, I read your message on genes reunited but couldn't reply because I have let my membership lapse (I didn't get any good leads vie the site.) I hadn't seen your message here on ancestry but thought you might be a member here too. My Ritson family and yours were in Barrow at the same time in the 1881 census and I did follow your side for a while until I realised my mistake. my Robert Ritson originated in the Lowood area (Backbarroew) I haven't gone further than the Robert in the 1881 census because he didn't seem to live at home from about 6. Since joining ancestry last June I have been too busy to really get down to much research (it is all consuming and days fly by when you get on the computer!) Thanks for your message.
I do not know much about my Casson/Hart families. My great-grandfather's middle name was "Casson," and I would assume that it may have been his mother's maiden name, and that is why it was used for his middle name, however, I cannot say that with certainty. His full name was "Thomas Casson Hart." The Hart's lived in the Camden, NJ/Philadelphia, PA area, for sure, from about 1840 onward. One of Thomas Hart's relatives is listed as having been born in England in the 19th century, which is something that I did not know in 2001, when I posted the link that you responded to today. My grandfather, Edgar Hardcastle Hart, spent time in County Cork, Ireland around the turn of the 20th century: 1900-1905, are approximate dates. Can you let me know where your Hart's/Casson's lived? Thank you. /C

But I have a photocopy of a photocopy of a copy from microfilm (i.e., it's not so easy to read) of a newspaper article about John Casson when he died in 1904. It's attached to my record for John in my family tree, CASSON FAMILY TREE (NEW JERSEY/ILLINOIS). Any comments about the information I have entered will be appreciated.

Does this provide you with more information than you had? The information I entered was gathered and given to me by my father's cousin's wife. My grandfather was Henry Roosevelt Casson, born 1904 West Paterson, N.J. His parents were Richard Casson and Louisa Lawton, from Little Falls and Paterson.

I just entered a new family tree onto ancestry.com which I called CASSON FAMILY TREE (NEW JERSEY/ILLINOIS). Why don't you have a look at it.

Hi-I am also researching the Casson line. John Casson (son of Robert & Agnes) is my husband's gr-gr-grandfather. I know Robert married Agnes (they, along with their son John Casson, his 2 wives [Hannah & Louisa A.] and some of the children he had with Hannah) are buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson, NJ. I have their burial records. My question is that I have Agnes' maiden name as either Harper or Harkgrith (no proof, just written family info) and was wondering where you got the information on her maiden name as Nicholson; I also have a record of a Robert Casson and Agnes as being formally married after they arrived in the USA. Would love to hear from you.

Hi-Came across your message while looking for John Casson links. John Casson (RR engineer) was brother to Henry Casson and is my husband's gr-gr-grandfather. I will look to see if I have any other info to send you. I think I was in touch with Jennifer Church Stevens years ago but would like to touch base and see if we can combine family info. I think I have a copy of someone's will and will look for it in my records. I know I have the name Walterscheid in my Casson records.

I have some notes from when I spoke with Mary Lee (your Aunt?). I lost touch with her. I don't know if she is still living or not. I think she was my Grandmother's cousin & my grandmother has been gone nearly 20 years. Mary said she had some newspaper clippings, etc., but I never saw them. I'd be happy to share the information Mary told me about the Casson family (and I would love to hear if you know anything more). You can email me at kristapowell99@yahoo.com

I am trying to find any details of Edmund Casson.
He is/was a minor poet (at least compared to Wordsworth, Coleridge, Southey etc)

His main claim to fame is a lengthy poetical play called "The Wise Kings of Borrowdale". All his stuff is based around the Lake District.

I am interested as his plays were performed in 1912, 1913 and 1914 in the grounds of Greta Hall (home of Southey and Coleridge). Obviously the 1st World War put a stop to them.

However, I can find no dates of information about Edmund at all.
Veronica Palmer
I guess it's been awhile, since I checked the message boards. I noticed that the posted data and mine don't exactly match. Is there any chance you could look at what I have and let me know if and where I have gone wrong?
Hi Shelly,Pleased to hear from you and wish you luch in "the never ending search". I do not have any more imformation at all, the whole thing was connected to my maternal grandma
Betsy Bershansky(Vyner) from Jonava then Leeds. Casson
was the name of her sisters son-in-law. I have'nt found
any reference in M/ch to that name. If I find them you'll be the first to know !
