Hello, I am also trying to trace my family tree. My father's mother's maiden name was castaneda. I wished I would have asked questions when my parents were alive. I don't know much from either side. I do remember him telling us that his mother was Spanish. I only saw her once. Very fair skinned. Her name was Maria Filomena Castaneda. Her parents were Elueterio Castaneda and Hermenegilda Luevanos or(luebanos). My grandmother had two brothers. Jose Calletano Castaneda born 1890 and Jesus Elueterio Castaneda born 1892. He also told us that we had relatives who lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico and Globe, Arizona. I think we might be related. My grandmother married Jose Mendiola. They lived in Valle del Suchil, Durango, Mexico. Too much of a coincidence that the last name and that they live in Globe, Arizona.

my great-grandfather was Jose Castaneda married to Maria Nunez.they had 2 children My Grandmother Maria Castaneda Nunez(1907) and Jose Castaneda Nunez JR.believe they lived in Ocampo Chihuahua Mexico that is where my Grandmother Maria was born.they moved to Mexicali Baja Mexico. my Grandmother Maria later immigrated to the United States where she married Remedios Cardenas Ortega-in Imperial California. do not know what happened to my great grandfather Jose Castaneda-found out my great grandmother Maria Nunez was married before and Jose Castaneda was her second Marriage. do not know if My great Grandfather had siblings or if he was also married before?my great Grandfather features described from my eldest cousin who was around the time my great grandfather Jose Castaneda was alive..he described him as tall thin white complexion and blue eyes ,like his son Jose Jr. my grandmother was also light skinned. would like to know if we have any connection with your Castaneda's. Well my name is Ismael Castaneda and I lived in Michoacan with my family. We lived in La Huacana and tepalcatepec aka tepeque. My great grandpa's name was Luis torres I believe from el valle that's a small town. I never knew my great grandma. My grandpa's name was Juventino Castaneda who recently died. My grandma Graciela gunman Castaneda died over 20 yrs. Ago. I do believe she has sisters living in Chicago usa. Los angeles California and morelia. Most of us live in southern California for right now.

My Great-grandfather was Jose Castaneda and Great-grandmother was Maria Castaneda Nunez they lived in Mexicali Baja Mexico.
they had 3 children that I know of, I'm pretty sure he was married before. his daughter -My grandmother Maria Castaneda was born march.3,1905 in Ocampo Chihuahua Mexico. her siblings were Celia who married a Braulio Ruiz and moved to Puerto Penasco ,Mexico where they owned hotels. her Brother Jose moved to San Felipe Baja Mexico with a Maria- I believe he also was married before.he had a son Alberto from his previous marriage. My Grandmother married in 1923 and moved to Calexico,California but since her husband My GrandFather Remedios Cardenas Ortega, Had a Shoe repair shop in Mexicali they moved back til he died of heart attack and Grandmother Maria Moved back to California with Children. Grandfather-Remedios Cardenas Ortega's brother -Braulio Cardenas lived in Brawley,California where I believe he died in a car accident. still trying to locate that side of family too. if any of these names sound familiar to you please message me.

My Grandmother Maria Castaneda Nunez born in Ocampo chihuahua mexico (1905-1989),Parents were Jose and Maria Nunez , her siblings were Celia and Jose..My grandmothers remaining daughters and son do not seem to remember much about my Greatgrand-father- Jose Castaneda , Think he had abandoned them and fled to the United States during the Mexican wars -and took another woman named Maria- whom he married in Arizona. would like to know if she sounds familiar to you..we might be related. another thing is My Grandmothers brother was white and blue eyes. my grandmother Hazel. maybe that could be a clue? message me at ohana4mcdonald@msn.com

Any Castañedas from Durango?

More importantly, anyone know when and where this last name originates from? "Tilde" is the name of the symbol on top of the N (alt+164 = ñ)and (alt+165=Ñ) for those of you that still call it an accent. Any who i just want to know if anyone has a bit more info on this last name. I also noticed a good number of the families on this post were from Zacatecas, Durango as you may already know is the neighboring state and the Castañedas that i have ran into are also from that area, found that interesting. Well any progressive information would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Patricia Castañeda is a relative of mine. She was my mother's cousin, and she was killed when she was only seventeen. She is the daughter of Arturo Castañeda, my grandmother's brother. These Castañeda are from Suchil, Durango (Mexico).

I too am looking for grandparents from Durango. Aniceto Sosa Castaneda grandmother Dorothea Sosa Castaneda. He had 6 children Luis, Eloy,Lorenza,Trinidad,Petra, Marcelino. My father was born in Brawley Ca. I believe the rest in Mexico. They have all passed on and I've been trying to locate the family tree with some luck so far but not enough information My Grandfather Aniceto was born 1887 Durango, Grandmother Dorothea 1897 Zaragoza Durango.
If you should come accross anything please let me know and I will let you know if I find anything

My grandmother Dorothea Sosa Castaneda was buried in Yum AZ but from what I've been told was the cemetary she was buried at a freeway was built over it. Do you have any idea wht the name of the cemetary was or where they took the bodies? She was born in mexico 1897.

My name is Rejino Castaneda. I live in Gilroy.

I had an uncle in Yuma by the name of Fernando. If his brothers names were/are Rejino, Enrique, Lalo, and Samuel, with sisters Aurora, Maria, Chata(Josephina), and Margaret, we are related. We have many relatives in Los Angeles , San Jose and Gilroy areas.

We visit Yuma often, as a matter of fact we will be in Holtville,CA/Yuma,AZ 11/13 to 11/16.

I am Raymundo (Reymundo) Castaneda's son, son of Bernardo Castaneda and Eutimia Castaneda. My grandfather left my grandmother and formed another family and he ended up in California. Los Angeles or Gardena or Torrance somewhere back there. I assume i have relatives in Arizona, since my father was born there. Yuma, Las Vegas or Miami, Az???
If you happen to be a relative of mine somehow, do let me know-so i can backtrack together with you our family tree?
