This is what I have on him....

3. LIBERATORE CASTELLANO (Evangelista, Antonino) was born about 1819 at Positano, Salerno, Kingdom of Naples. He died 7 August 1888 on the Island of Filicudi, Province of Messina, Sicily. He was married, first, 20 April 1837 at Lipari to MARIA FAMULARO. At the time, Maria was aged 16, of Marina di San Giovanni, Lipari. Liberatore was aged 18, a trafficante (merchant), and native of Positano. Maria was baptized 28 August 1820 at Lipari, the daughter of Bartolomeo Francesco Famularo and his wife, Marianna Manfré. Her sponsor was Don Felice Mauro.
Liberatore was married, second, 22 January 1865 by Reverendo Giuseppe Costa to Donna TERESA CINQUE. The witnesses were Don Ambrosio Picone and Angelo Castellano. Donna Teresa Cinque was baptized 30 September 1836 at Lipari, the daughter of Salvatore Cinque (a native of Positano) and his wife, Donna Marianna Costa di Cristoforo Antonino qm Gaetano. Her sponsor was Giuseppe Costa. Donna Teresa died 10 January 1915 at Filicudi.
He was a big obese man who sold pots and pans and other items to the people in the Aeolian Islands. He became one of the wealthiest men on the Island of Filcudi. He relocated there in the mid 1800's.
Children by first wife, Maria Famularo:

i.	EVANGELISTA CASTELLANO, baptized 7 July 1837. His sponsor was Felice Paino.
8. ii. GIUSEPPA CASTELLANO, baptized 28 8bre (October) 1838; married GAETANO LOMBARDO.
iii.	NUNZIATA CASTELLANO, baptized 22 August 1840. Her sponsor was Nicola Ventrici.
iv.	EVANGELISTA CASTELLANO, baptized 10 March 1842. His sponsor was Domenico Sagora.
9. v. CAROLINA CASTELLANO, baptized 18 June 1843; married GAETANO GIUFFRÈ.
10. vi. ANGELO CASTELLANO, baptized 3 9bre (September) 1845; married ROSANNA TESORIERO.
11. vii. NUNZIATA MARIA CASTELLANO, baptized 25 March 1848; married GAETANO RANDO.
12. viii. MARIANNA CASTELLANO, born about 1850; married (1) ANTONINO RANDO, (2) BARTOLOMEO ANGELO ZAGAMI.
ix.	MARIA FRANCESCA CASTELLANO, baptized 4 June 1854. Her sponsor was Angelo Castellano. She was buried 5 April 1855, aged six months.
13. x. BARTOLOMEO CASTELLANO, baptized 24 April 1856; married CONCETTA FAMULARO.

Children by second wife, Donna Teresa Cinque, born probably in Filicudi:

14. xi.
Got your posting about Castellano's of Rochester, NY. My mother-in-law was a Castellano and her sister Lucia lived in Rochester as did her brother Martin Francesco (they called him Frank) and Angelo. Here is the info that I have. Back in Italy, I believe from the town of Recordo di Monticchio, in the Naples area, Philomina Pietrofiscio married Antonio Castellano. They had five children: Angelo, Anna, Lucia, Caterina, and Martin Francesco. Anna and Caterina moved to Buffalo and the others remained in Rochester. Someone in the family had boats and went back and forth from their home in Italy to the Isle of Capri. Philomina Pietrofascio had three brothers. One settled in Denver and one to South America. Does any of this sound familiar? Don't know about the other brother.

Good evening Mike,
My name is Elizabeth and I was hoping you might be able to help me...I am researching my Castellano ancestors.

Antonino Castellano (1860) and Concetta (de Angelis) Castellano (1870) emmigrated from Sant Agnello to Brooklyn in 1913 with their children:
Giulia, Giovanni, Consalvo, Michele, Adolfo and baby Emma.
Antonino's sister Luigia was still living in Sant Agnello. The family was meeting Antonino's brother Giovanni, sister-in-law Filomena Garguilo, and eldest son Giuseppe Castellano in NY.
Giuseppe Castellano and his siblings were born in Piano di Sorrento.
According to family legend, Antonino was in the shipping industry and made and lost three fortunes before he emmigrated.

I hope that you still check this site!
Hello,

My name is Rabia. My mother is Raphaela Castellano, and was telling me about my families history and she mentioned Uncle Paul. So I guess that would make you my great cousin. My grandfather was Larry, and my grandmother was Rose. They lived on 19th street in Manhattan. My mom said to give her a call whenever you get the chance. We live in Virginia Beach
(757) 831-1313.

My ggrandmother, Rosalia Palle Palermo (1882-1960), had a step-mother named Maria Castellano, who were both from Santo Stefano di Quisquina, Sicily. They came to US through Ellis Island in Dec 1892 with Rosalia's brother, Angelo (1884-?), to Tampa, where Maria and her husband, Carlo Palle Palermo, lived until they died. They had two sons together, Antonio, and Andre. I believe Antonio married Katie Massari and Angelo married Felippe someone. Andrew moved to NY as a banker.

Susan Muzio Conner
delvallemuzio@yahoo.com

Hello, I have been trying to track down my family tree. I don't know if we are related, but my uncle (Roldan Castellano) told me our family came from Spain a long time ago. Most of the family I know are from the Phillipines (Pangasinan, Bolinao). My grandfather is Alejandro Castellano, SR. and he passed away in the 1980's. His father (My Great Grandfather) is Victor Castellano. I will provide more info if you think we are related.

The surname Castellano has both Spanish and Italian origins. In Spain the name is of geographical origins and is associated with someone from Castile. In modern times this would encompass the region of Castilla y Leon where the province of Salamanca resides.

The Italian origins similar to the Spanish can be associated with an area or town in Italy or it might be connected to someone who lived or worked in a castle.

Good luck in your search!
My relatives are from Mola di Bari, Italy. Supposedly their last name was Castellana, then my great-uncle Joe changed it to Castellano upon arriving in the U.S. My Castellano/a family also lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina before coming to the U.S. Also, many of my family settled in Long Island, but my grandparents went to the Chicago area. I'd really like to solve the Castellano/a mystery and know if our name really was Castellana originally.

Pattie, I believe I have located the family you are looking for in the 1930 census. Michael age 68, married to Vincenza, age 51, living at 35 Merriam St. in Somerville, along with their children, John J. age 24, Angelina, age 18, and Philip, age 16.

There are several Castellano families living at 35-37 Merriam St. I have not looked at all of them yet, as I was focusing on Angelina. (I have no connection...Angelina is Grandmother of a good friend).

In my searching, I also found a WWI Draft Registration for Filippo.

Please e-mail if you need more info

Diane
Hi Patti, I have sent you an e-mail, but, I also wanted you to know that along with the 1930 census, I also have an image of the WWI Draft Registration for Filippo. It lists his birthday as September 5, 1878.

As I said in the e-mail, I'm not a family member, just researching for a friend, but, I'd be happy to share what I have found.

Diane
