      <title>Catesby-Cates connection</title>
      <link>http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/surnames.catesby/1/mb.ashx</link>
<description>I have traced my family name of Cates back to 1780, the year of my gggggrandfathers John Cates birth. The family story has always been our original name was Catesby. I have been unable to locate his place of birth or his parents. If anyone knows more about Catesby history, and if indeed there were some that dropped the "by" after arriving in the states, I would love to hear from you.
