I have a Benjamin F. Coursey in my files, b. Nov 14, 1861 in MS per information from Steve Harper, sharper@airmail.net, a number of years ago. I have no marriage or desc. for him, so don't know if he is a match your Benjamin md. Sarah Elizabeth McCune.
I speculate that his father, John C. 'Jack' Coursey, b. 1824, Edgefield Dist, SC and married Ann E. Quattlebaum, is a possible brother to my ggg-grandfather, Uel/Ewell (William Ewell) Coursey b. ca 1818, and his 1st wife, to date unknown.
Would love to see a Coursey desc. of this line participate in the Coursey DNA project if there are living male desc.
Billie Jones
billee@truvista.net

Was just checking on 'Uncle Dean' - aka Lewis Dean Causey who married Adelaid Fairbanks. If you are still interested, I have a lot of info on the family. I am very interested in the Fairbanks as well. I knew Uncle Dean and his second wife, Jeannette Causey, and visited them in FL years ago, in fact, visited Jeanette after Uncle Dean died. She talked a lot about Dean and David. Tell me about yourself. Would love to know about your siblings as well.

Close examnination of the image of the silver certificate reveals that the date/place line was probably written at the same time that Carol Macmillen signed the certificate.

The signature by Adelaide Fairbanks was made with a different pen, or ink, if not at a later time. The name Causey is not legible in the image provided. Was it on the overside of the certificate?

What part of the US are you in? Knowing that might give provide some understanding of the silver certificate's provenance.

Can you determine what the marking is after the name Fairbanks?

The date corresponds to the end of WWII, therefore anyone traveling from Paris to New York at the time would likely have been in the military or diplomatic services.

Thanks for getting back. I've had this for about 20 years.
I work at a small print shop. Used to deal with a lot of older people and one of them must have used this for simple copies. I found it in the cash drawer the end of one day and put it aside. I was cleaning out my desk and found it, it's a curiousity and may become a hobby.

From my copyrighted history manuscript of the Descendants of William Causey, 1744-1828.

Quote "Adelaide Fairbanks, born 30 Jul 1875 died 23 Oct 1961, married Lewis Dean Causey, Sr. abt. 1929.

Adelaide is a daughter of Charles Warren Fairbanks, Vice President of the United States, 1904-1909, under Teddy Roosevelt and for whom Fairbanks, Alaska was named. Mr. Fairbanks was a financier noted in commercial and industrial circles for the Fairbanks-Morse manufacturing plants. (See more on Charles Warren Fairbanks at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_W._Fairbanks)

Adelaide was the oldest child, and had four brothers:
Warren b. 1878
Frederick Cole b. 1881
Richard Monroe b. 1883
Robert b. 1886

Adelaide was married three times before her marriage to Lewis Dean Causey; one of these to a Timmons. Adelaide and her two brothers inherited vast wealth from her father. Being childless, Lewis and Adelaide adopted eight children, six from three sets of twins.

Lewis Dean Causey served in the U. S. Navy as a Captain. In 1938, 'Dean' returned from Los Angeles according to Harriet Rose McLain's journal.

'Dean' attended the U. S. Naval Academy from 1901-1905 and then served in the Navy for 30 years, retiring just prior to WWII. He had served in the submarine service during WWI and rapidly advanced to commanding a fleet of submarines.

After WWI, he was assigned by the U. S. Navy Department the task of reorganizing the navy of Argentina. Following his voluntary retirement, he then went back on active service following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941. The Liberty, MS 'Southern Herald' printed an article on April 20, 1944 in which it was reported that he had returned from Sydney, Australia and stopped in McComb, MS on his way to see his family in Arizona.

Following his first retirement, he and his family lived near Norwood, East Feliciana Parish, LA at their farm, Richard Plantation.

The news article stated that his parents', Will I. and Hattie McLain Causey, home "is still in possession of the Causey family since it was granted by the U. S. Government to their great-grandfather, Capt. William Causey of the Revolutionary Army as recompense for his services with the American armed forces from Maryland during the Revolution."

All of Lewis Dean's children were adopted, including at least three sets of twins." Unquote

It seems likely that the certificate in question was a souvenir of a return trip made by CAPT Causey at the end of WWII. The Macmillen who also signed the certificate is unknown.

Hi! I am looking for any information about Kimbrough Causey's family tree. He was born around March 21, 1882 and died around 1932 and seemed to live his whole life in Tuscaloosa Alabama. He was married to Cora Penelope Loveless. I am very interested in his parents, Norris and Permelia. Norris may have served with the Confederate Army, but the only proof I have so far is where Permelia filed for Confederate Compensation. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much for your response. I have never been able to get beyond vague clues and the hunches they generate in finding the family for Diana Causey who was born ca 1798 (place unknown) who married my John W Linthicum in Guilford Co in 1823. Both died by 1847 and their young orphans scattered to the winds. If any family tradition survived, it has not surfaced in my many years of off/on research. I lean toward Jesse Causey b ca 1800 in NC who married Lydia Coe in Guilford Co in 1831 as being a brother or very close relative of Diana as one of John and Diana’s orphans, John D or B Linthicum appears with a related Coe family in the 1850 Census for Guilford Co.
In reviewing my files I found that I had obtained a few fragments of Mr. Emerson’s works (mostly Bible records) from PERSI reprints of Guilford Genealogist articles. Nothing yielded any leads toward Diana’s parents. If Mr. Emerson is still active, I would appreciate an opportunity to contact him about his book and even with your findings, I would be interested in reviewing the material on the families who came to Guilford Co in order to decide if this group from Caroline Co. just might include my Causeys.
Lacking that opportunity, if you feel that it would not be inappropriate to copy the book, I would be willing to pay copy costs, etc.
Thank you again for your help.
Terry Linthicum
Hello, I don't know if your Causey book covers the line that went to Yazoo, MS, but if it does, could you tell me if there are two people about the same age who are named Cynthia Ann Desdamonia Causey and born about 1827? A researcher told me once that there might have been cousins with this same name. One of them...the one that married Daniel F. Edwards, is my great grandmother. Thanks, Linda Wilson

Have some ties to the MD branch of family but a critical piece is missing. Would love to hear what you have if you are willing to share. Thank you.

I have this book, Craig sent it to me a number of years ago. I looked for Diana Causey and there are 2. Both married into the Causey family, one in 1739 and one much later than your dates. I also searched for the Linthicum family in the index and there is no listing there. Do you know what family this Diana came from?

I am going to Columbia SC to the state archives in a couple of months and of course that is on the "hit list." I cannot imagine what goes on with the family dynamics to cause or is caused by a lawsuit! Again, that you for all YOUR work on the Causey family. Sara Jane Overstreet

Thank you for your reply. I can show you what little I have--of course I have more on Absolom Causey's daughter who is my ancestor. Absolom seems to have lived in Beaufort SC and late in life moved to Barnwell District SC where he had married daughters--including my Cynthia Causey who married Overstreet. Absolom seems to have had land. There was also a lawsuit with his motherinlaw Lucy Wood. I cannot attach on ancestry.com.
Sara,
This line of mine is a mess right now and I'm waiting for my cousin to send me boxes of info my GrannyPat put together before she died years ago that I need to sort through. However my great grandmother used to tell me stories about her relatives. Her name was Erma Causey, and Absalom is in my family tree as well. I would love to collaborate. I took notes when I was a sophmore and did a geneology project and have some of her stories written down. It was all left at my grandmothers where she lived...and I'm 32 now. But I have the project, and my church has centers throughout the country to help with family search info. My Granny once showed my mom a completed tree through to the Phoenix crossing, I am just attempting to reverify and fill the gaps in from myself to Nathanial and Thomasine in 1608.

No one but Aaron is listed by name, however the number of male children listed indicate that there are were more sons in the family. The families of both Hubbard and Gabriel L. (1813) are found living together in another early Census. If they aren’t brothers they are surly cousins.

Assuming I'm tracking the same Christopher you are, I show that the 1850 census of Heard County, GA has Christopher and his family listed and does reflect Georgia as his birthplace. However, in the 1860 census for Chambers County, AL and then the 1870 census for Randolph County, AL and the 1880 census for Randolph County, AL - where he is living with his son Lewis (listed as the head of household) show his birthplace as North Carolina. Also, his son Wright, who is my GGGF, showed his father - who I believe to be Christopher - as being born in North Carolina in some of his (Wright's) Civil war documentation. Would love to trade information with you as I believe we share the same Christopher and possibly we can fill in missing details on both sides.

There was at least one other Absalom (Absalem) Causey (1760-1840)in the area at the same time. He married Frances Stocks 27 Dec 1792 in Craven Co, NC, moved down through Georgia and ended up dying in Chambers Co, AL.

He may have alternatively spelled his name Corsey or Coursey. I have his son as Christopher (1793-1881) who shows up, among other places, in our family records as Corsey (as reported by my g-grandmother Ollie Belle Causey.

I have Christopher as being born in Georgia, so if Absalom was, indeed, his father, then Absalom and Frances moved south almost immediately after their marriage.

Corrections are always happily considered!

Records indicate William Causey was born in 1744 and the Absalom Causey who married Elizabeth Wood was born about 1765, so there is nothing unusual about their birthyears.

If Absalom was 21 at the time he appears in the 1790 Census, then he would have been born as late as 1769; and his birth in that year is consistent with the general movements of his father, William Causey, 1744-1828, who apparently came to the colonies in 1768, reportedly moved to Maryland and, according to family legend, married there and had children in Maryland.

While there is no absolute proof Absalom is the son of William Causey 1744-1828, there are ample circumstansial facts to support that Absalom who married Elizabeth Wood is the son of William Causey.

Absalom Causey was acquiring land through William Causey's efforts as early as 1784, funding these acquisitions with an endorsed indenture of pay owed to William Causey by the South Carolina government for William's services rendered in the Revolutionary War. It would appear that Absalom was the only son of William Causey, 1744-1828, old enough to hold title to lands acquired in this manner. This further supports the birth years of William's younger sons from his first marriage.

However, researchers should note that the following Absalom, or Absolom, Causeys who were known to be in the Carolinas or in GA at approximately the same time:
1) Absolom Causey, abt. 1800-1886, son of James and Abigail Julia Craven; grandson of Riley Nedrow Causey (1734-1809)
2) Absolom Causey, son of Philip Causey Jr. (1730-1802) and Sarah LNU (Sarah Ann T. Laws? or Ross?)
3) Absolom Causey, son of John Causey (1740-1779) and Ann LNU
4) Absalom Causey, abt. 1760-1807, m. Elizabeth Wood (The probable son of William Causey, 1744-1828)

So, while there is no absolute proof of Absalom Causey's relationship to William Causey 1744-1828, there is considerable evidence to support that claim, and there is no evidence that would deny that relationship.

It was written just several months after her son's birth. I found the letter in a bunch of old letters that my mom and dad sent each other. I have been trying to find out who Jetoria was and/or Clyde to see what connection they had to my mother and father. The letter is post marked from Sikeston, Mo on August 25, 1938. At the time the letter was written my mother and father were in Detroit but bothe are from Kentucky. Doyou know where Jetoria and Clyde was born? Kentucky or Missouri. My mother had realtives in St Louis and Woods in her linage-so I am wondering if she might have been a cousin. I would be glad to send you a copy of her very nice letter in exchange for any information you have on either her or Clyde.

Descendants of William Causey, 1744-1828, of Mississippi

The "Descendants of William Causey, 1744-1828, of Mississippi" site has removed from the Internet. This includes the eBook on the extensive genealogy of William Causey's descendants found in the "Killian Family History - MS & LA, 1732-Present". It has always been my practice to keep the family histories and genealogies accurate and reasonably up to date. But the files have become very large and I no longer have the time and energy to devote to editing the histories, and to keep them updated on-line.

Add to this fact that the policy of FamilyTreeMaker, Rootsweb, and Genealogy.com (all now owned by Ancestry.com) requires authors to relinquish all copyright privileges and permit Ancestry.com to offer the history as a commercial product.

While facts and records from public filings are not subject to copyright, the analyses, photographs, stories, and original texts are copyrightable in all other venues except those owned by Ancestry.com. Ancestry.com's policy means that all original passages of text, original maps, and family photographs can be copied and commercially distributed by Ancestry.com.

Because Ancestry.com refuses to help protect the copyrights of authors who research and publish extensive family histories, others who copy those works and present them as their own are not subject to the rules of copyright. And, Ancestry.com then compiles those original reports and sells them to the general public as commercial products.

This policy was unilaterally established by Ancestry.com and anyone using their services must agree to the policy or not be permitted to use Ancestry.com's products or services. I object to this policy and choose to not grant Ancestry.com the right to take my proprietary work and profit from it.

I am researching all Cossey lines, and now have been adding Causey, Cousey, etc. because families changed spellings along the way. Most of the COSSEY lines several of us have been trcing for years, originated in Maryland. 1880-1900 a lot of Causey families changed to Cossey (to present day).

Debbie Cossey Wasserburger
genmaster@mchsi.com

The information is for James Monroe Carver as listed as a descendent of William Causey 1744-1828. Carver is shown on pages 14 and 299 of 870.

Wife of James Monroe Carver was Annie Sealy as shown and the children listed are correct plus there were three additional children as I listed above.

Annie Moore Sealy Carver died Aug 16, 1954 in Bexar County, Texas and is buried in Coker Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
Thank you.

I think you'll find that the Martha Caor is actually Martha Cave.

You will find more records on these individuals in the "William Causey 1744-1828 Descendants of MS":

http://www.genealogy.com/users/k/i/l/Ed-R-Killian-MS/

Please tell us who you are asking.

To what family are you wishing to add these members? Carver? Cave? Causey?

Which lineage records are you looking at when you ask the question?
