I'm sure you've figured this out by now, but I thought I'd reply for any future researchers. I found on Rootsweb that a generation was skipped in the Sarah to William connection. Sarah's dad was William but so was William's. Sarah's mom is Jane Rush and her grandmother is Anna Stonehouse. The dates make much more sense this way. Not sure if it right but it does make sense.

Greetings -- Are you still collecting information on Cave Brown Cave and have you, by chance, come upon any records of his time in the Comox Valley in the late 1860s? I'm writing a biography of an early settler there.

Cheers, Jeanette Taylor
Quadra Island, BC

Ann was a sister to my gt;gt; grandfather John Cullis Burton. It so happens that I also have the name of Cullis included in my names!!Unfortunatley, I no longer belong to Ancestry.

Margaret. Torquay, England.

I read this post you wrote some twelve years ago. I am also descended from this family. I inherited a scrapbook froma great-uncle, who had photos from his trip to visit "relatives in Kalamazoo, Mich around 1930. He was a shutterbug, and there is a nice photo of Clara Alice Cave Whyment at age 86. Anyway, could you please share some info with me? Specifically, my great grandmother was in some of those photos taken with "Uncle Geroge," "Uncle Frank," and "Aunt Edith." Not sure who they are but family for sure. And I have some really nice photos of them.
Thanks for any help you can lend. Charles and Clara had a daughter named Louise. She married Isaiah Finch. Their daughter Annie married Howard Summers Peregoy - my great-grandfather. I have the family "migration" traced fairly well if I can tag some people into it.
Hi, my name is Antonitte Findley and my ancestors were also the Caves of Barnwell, SC, however we are african americans. I understand that this is a difficult topic that most people don't want to address but I still would like to know my past. My forth great grandfather was Henry Cave that was born in 1859. I know from his death certificate that his father's name was also Henry Cave of Barnwell. What's also interesting is that my fourth great grandfather's wife was name Ann Cave but she was born in VA. I understand that this maybe asking for much, but is it possible that you and your family while researching found any information on a Henry or Ann Cave, and if you did, mind sharing it with me? I thank you so much in advance for your help.

Antonitte Findley

I am currently looking for any information regarding the Walkeringham Caves.
Elizabeth Cave b 1776 walkeringham d sept 1850 gringley on the hill, son of Aaron b 7/8/1743 married george metcalfe in 1798 at gringley on the hill. George is an ancestor of mine. After a visit to walkeringham churchyard I could only find more recent Caves, Thomas b 1806 walkeringham,Henry b 1878, george b 1880.
Any pointers about other descendants of Aaron Cave or his father George ( b 29/5/1713 d 5/11/1752 married Mary Ingham 3/1/1740/1 ) would help me narrow down which Caves are related to me would be most appreciated. Aaron married Ann Smith 23/8/1773 in Walkeringham.
Many thanks
John

Hi Jim:

It has been a while since we chatted, and a while since I have done any research on the Cave family. You may recall that in 2007 you, I, Jane, and others were discussing the same topics that you and Brian are now covering in this thread, i.e. DNA testing, the early Virginia Caves, Valentine Cave, etc.

You may also remember that the very unusual given name of Valentine runs in the Virginia Cave family. For example, one of Benjamin Cave the Burgess's daughters marries a Johnson and names her son Valentine Johnson. Another son of Benjamin the Burgess had a granddaughter named Bellsora Valentine Cave. Mary Cave, of this same Virginia Cave family, (assumably the aunt or sister of Benjamin), had a grandson named Valentine Murphy.

There are other early Virginia Cave – Valentine connections as well. This makes the fact that there is a perfect match between this Virginia Cave family and the Valentine Cave family in England a definite avenue to pursue.

Brian mentions that his Valentine Cave family tree goes back to 1606. I think that Jane Wayne found an earlier Valentine Cave who died about this time. It has been a while but I also think that I previously discussed Valentine Cave with Hugh Cave in England, and he may have found a connection between that family and some of the earlier Caves.

Jim, one last thing on your notes on the early Virginia records. You state that two John Caves were transported in 1663 and 1667. Actually, the applicable Virginia colony statute of the time stated that individuals had to have either died during the trip, or resided in the Virginia colony for three years before the headright could be issued. Also, there was no limit of time concerning how long the headright may have been valid. The system was full of fraud: there were actually about four times as many headrights claimed as individuals transported. Many times a captain would claim a headright, and the person paying the passage would claim the headright, all for the same passenger. Headrights were also freely bought and sold, so it is not even certain that for example John Foxhall paid for the transport of John Cave. It is also very possible that these two records refer to the same man, and perhaps the same trip.

There was also a David Cave who signed a petition of householders in St. Stephen's parish in 1683. St. Stephen's covered the area in Virginia where our early Cave family, including John Robert Mary and Benjamin came from. The name David runs through these family's descendants. I may be wrong but I also think that there is a land patent in 1669 or thereabouts using David Cave as the head right.

Michael

Brian, here are a few nuggets re dates:

Benjamin born 1703 died 1762. There is a legal doc in Orange County VA establishing the 1703 date. The doc did not say where he was born. Circumstances point to Virginia.

Robert Cave died in 1755. There are estate docs establishing this date. No birth info. I have found public records of adult dealings going back to 1727. Likely born not later than 1706. Could have been a few years earlier.

John Cave of Stafford, possible father, dated his will 1714 and it was proven 1721. He acquired his land in Stafford in 1707. "Cavaliers and Pioneers" has two John Caves transported to the Virginia colony in the 1660's - one in 1663 and another in 1667. The latter was transported by John Foxhall who received land in payment. The location of the land makes the 1667 John more likely. If he was an adult in 1667, he would have been born not later than 1646. This would make him 57 years old when Benjamin was born --??? . My ggrandfather Bennett had his last child born when he was 61.

Attached file re a discredited William as father.

What are your thoughts?
Jim

I have documented my descent from Robert Cave who lived and died in Orange County Virginia in 1755c. He was a contemporary of Benjamin the Burgess. He was possibly a brother of Benjamin (not proven) and possible son of John Cave (not proven) who died about 1720 in Stafford County, Virginia. I have YDNA matches to Caves in England upper midlands - Eg area containing Northhamptonshire. I belong to Cave Family Historical Society in England which has coordinated the YDNA project. If only I could get past the water's edge and document a connection to England.

Brian do you have any idea whether any of your Valentine family had an emigrant of a time that could tie to John or Robert?
Jim

I Have a family tree dating to
1606 in the uk and have a 37 marker YDNA match to Texas
which probably links to Carolina / Virginia
The oldest ancestor im my "tree" is a Valentine Cave
Brian

Thank you! Do you have any land record plats or directions for their homes, or biographies for them? I strongly suspect that Burrell Parker's descendant is represented on the Parker Surname Project and I am trying to gather information when they were there in Barnwell county and area. My own ggggrandfather Henry Parker was in Marlboro co. S.C. in 1810-1820 and I know by family tradition that a John Parker was his father. same ydna as Burrell Parker's. Gathering family records from my other ydna Parker cousin's lines is helping to form a picture of them all. Thank you for any help.

Information

I'm seeking information on Christina Cave, DOB 5-16-1854, DOD 7-21-1921. Married to William Greg McBride. Daughter of Alfred N Cave. Not sure who the mother was. I think Emma E Briggs who was Alfred's 3rd wife, Christina (Tena) is my great grandmother. Family stories have it she has Indian blood in her. (Osage tribe) but US census has her listed as white. Family stories say this is because family was hiding her Indian heritage. I have a picture of her and she looks Indian. Is there anyone out there who could shed some more light on this? Also who is the correct mother. Thanks. Dana Jones.

I found the complete cave history on here a few years ago and gave it to my stepdad at the time. He has since past on.I'm sure if you look for their history you can find it.We went to the grave site on a hunting club over in Barnwell. It used to be part of a big plantation or still is part of the family. I don't remember. Their history on here goes back to th 1600's. Have fun.

I have some information of dubious validity concerning William Cave (b. 1749, d. 1839), son of Joseph Cave (b. 1720, d. 1825) and Mary Jenkins (b. 1720, d. 1835). Check my Whitmore/Cave family tree on Ancestry.com. William's siblings were apparently Reuben (1738-1830) and John (1758-1825). Good luck!

My great grandmother was Margaret Shaver, she married Lowell Cave in 1928. Lowell was her 4th and last husband and my mother tells me Lowell died in 1960, we still are unsure of Margaret. My mother has a picture of Lowell and Margaret that I hopefully will have in the next week or so. Happy to send on once I do. According to my mother, Lowell and Margaret lived in Bremerton, Washington and Galveston, TX until the early 40's when they moved to New York. I am just beginning my geneology research and the family does appear to break up right around the time they married. My mother was born in 1932 (one year after Lola), one of Elizabeth's (dob 1914) children, Margaret's daughter. We just found out her fathers last name, Ward. Our tree is The Brew Family Tree.
Thomas Cave-Spartanburg County SC and Dubois County IN

Hi! I am looking for information on Thomas Cave and Elizabeth Medford of South Carolina (Spartangburg County). I have quite a bit of information on them, but want to find Thomas' father and connect some possible relatives (John Cavan, Moses Cavan) who lived in the same county around the same time. Thomas Cave was a veteran of the War of 1812 (I have documentation). He moved his family to Dubois County IN in 1815 or so where he died in 1852. He was married 3 times. I am descended from his third wife, Fannie Davis Cave, and his granddaughter, Julia Ann Cave, who was my grandomother's grandmother. I have photos of Julia and quite a bit on this family's history in Indian.

Can anyone help me out with some additional information on the first marriage in South Carolina? Also, Thomas was supposed to have been born circa 1777 in Virginia. No idea what county or possible parents. This is why I want to make a connection if possible with the Cavans who live in Spartanburg County SC at the same time. I am wondering if they may be related, but made a name change for some reason.

Or they may be no relation.

Thanks for any help.

I believe the my GGF Frank M. Cave and Seabrook Cave were two of 3-4 brothers and 2 sisters.

I do have some of the details but not at my disposal now.

Wondering if you have any details on Seabrooks father this would confirm details or if they were first cousins. Eloise Cave was born around 1891-92 and married old for the time when she was almost 30. Her Father Frank M. was born 1860-61.

Frank M. I understood to be the eldest son. I have been to the old family farm many times and seen where the "old home" stood before it was burnt by Sherman.
