He immigrated to the US before 1810, married Betsey Snow b. 26 Apr. 1782 in Providence, RI. They had 8 children born bet. 1810 and 1825. He died 12 Mar. 1858 in Chadwicks, Oneida Co.

My wife's family spells it's name as Shadrick but it's obvious to everyone with this surname that it is spelled many ways in records.

Many people have trees on ancestry which list the children of John Shadrick and Mary Paschall but does anyone have any conclusive evidence that the DAR will accept? My wife is descended from their son Paschall Shadrick. I have been to Granville County and Warren County many times but can't find evidence of John,Mary and Paschall Shadrick connection. I have copy of John's will but it list Mary and his son Samuel but not any others....Ron Jones
I found the Montreal marriage 11/12/1877 between Bridget Huck and Frederick Chadwick whose parents were listed as John Chadwick and Maria Higgins. I wonder if he changed his name upon immigrating. All US census info supports his birth year of 1856. I found Quebec birth recorded at St Peter's for Frederick James on 6/12/1856 to George Chadwick and Maria Higgins. Baptised 6/29/1856 at St Peter's - signed by George Chadwick (father?). Quebec record on 6/2/1854 at St Peter's (Quebec) of marriage between George Chadwick and Maria Higgins. 1861 census shows they had 4 children 2 boys/2 girls - youngest Maria died as 9 months infant as recorded by St Peter's 2/17/1861. Jennifer
1851 Canadian census - Michael Huck age 20 born Limerick, IRELAND and Catherine Huck age 20 born Kilbrush(sic) probably Kilbragh, IRELAND.

Major Reg(inald) Chadwick 11th Hussars. Children-Stuart and Valerie
Do you have info on this man? He was my father's cousin.

Reg Chadwick died on 16th December, 1968, on

his way home from Australia. He was buried at

sea. He had had a bad heart attack a few years

before and those who knew him when he was back

in England in 1967 realized that he was not the man

he had been.

Reg joined "A" Squadron 11th Hussars in 1925.

He was at once recognized as an outstanding

personality, and so he remained to the end of his

life. He was soon in the riding school . training remounts,

and showed considerable skill with sword,

fence and revolver. He won the Young Dummy

Thrusting and the Regimental Open Dummy

Thrusting on a horse he had trained himself.

On mechanization Reg was one of the first to go

on courses at Bovington, including Lulworth, and

showed his versatility by becoming a Regimental

Gunnery and D . & M. Instructor . In 1929 he became

Education Sergeant, returning to duty as a

Troop Sergeant after two years . Quick promotion

followed . In 1933 he became S.Q.M .S., in 1934

Amongst Mark's many sporting activities perhaps

cricket, racing and football were foremost.

Being a fine cricketer himself he was, entirely

108 XI HUSSARS JOURNAL

S.S.M. of "C" Squadron . In

1940 Lieut .-Colonel

Combe made him Quartermaster, which appointment

he held till he left the Regiment in

1954.

Successful in all his appointments, he was outstanding

as Quartermaster and particularly so

during the war years.

Rommel is believed to have said that the desert

was a tactician's paradise but a quartermaster's

nightmare . The latter part of the statement was

certainly true, and particularly so for the quartermaster

of an Armoured Car Regiment . Reg coped

magnificently . The Regiment lacked nothing that

could be humanly produced . He was a well-known

and respected figure in his 8 cwt. truck or jeep, and

anyone who was lost quickly attached themselves

to Reg. He was the first 11th Hussar to land in

Normandy, and when the war ended he was the

only officer who had served with the Regiment

throughout the entire war and in all its campaigns.

In 7th Armoured Division he was just about the

best-known figure, and he was always on the best

of terms with everyone from the General downwards

. Reg ended his Regimental service in Malaya

after six months' service there, but in that time he

had become well known to all, from the High

Commissioner to the one-armed bandits.

After leaving the Regiment he went as Quartermaster

to Mons Officer Cadet School but he was

never really happy away from the Regiment . His

personality was too strong and his methods too

direct for his new colleagues, and he left the Army

in

1961 . For a time he lived in Rhodesia and then

went to Australia. In December last year he sailed

for home, hoping to see something of the Regiment

before its amalgamation, but it was not to be.

Those who served in the Regiment with Reg will

have their own special memories of him and their

own pet stories about him : Reg sending the Squadron

clerk down on his bicycle to the Officers' Mess

at Helmiel to warn the subalterns that the Squadron

Leader was about to inspect the garages ; pulling the

same subalterns out of their camp beds on desert

training ; throwing the hammer in the Regimental

sports in his crimson trousers and braces ; bicycling

round the barracks at Wesendorf with Nelly trotting

behind ; standing on the touchline shouting the

soccer team to further efforts ; singing "Danny Boy"

at Sergeants' Mess parties ; giving Sgt . Lawrence a

few crisp instructions and a host of other memories.

One of the best stories about him concerns the

visit of a high-ranking R .E. Officer to Paroi Camp,

Seremban, where the lighting was permanently

dim . Advancing on Reg this officer stated : "My

name is Power." "No Power here," replied

the Quartermaster.

Reg was a man of strong character and determined

opinions, which he was willing to express to

anyone . He had exceptional drive and enthusiasm.

The grass never grew under his feet . As Quartermaster

he served seven Commanding Officers with

supreme loyalty . To his Regiment and to his country

he gave the best years of his life and they are

grateful to him . To his son Stuart and his daughter

Valerie we extend our deepest sympathy.

(A more detailed account of Reg ' s career in the

Regiment appeared in the regimental journal of 1954)
Hi I have some Chadwick's in my family tree. I would need more info to find out if we are connected or not. My Great Great Grandfather was Montgomery Fremont Chadwick Born 3-20-1842 in Lansing, Michigan Died in 1920 I believe in Washington state. He was Married To Catherine A. (Anderson) Chadwick Born 8-17-1847 in Dublin, Ireland Died 9-20-1938 Washington state. They had 9 children Alfred, Mamie, Claria, Rachel, Cassie, Mark, Thomas, Frank, and Maud. Your Grandfather, and Great grandfathers names and dates would help.

James Chadwick Born 1885

I am trying to trace my paternal grandfather, James Chadwick, who was born in 1885, lived in Longley Road, Harrow and attended Wealdstone Bridge Council School.

His parents were Allen and Jane Chadwick (nee Senior) and James married Eliza Ingham at Hurst Parish Church, Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire on 9th June, 1908.

James and Eliza had one son (my father, Kenneth) and at the time of his birth, 30th August, 1912, lived 21 Chestnut Avenue, Crossgates, West Yorkshire.

Soon after Kenneth’s arrival, James apparently left Eliza. Family members don’t think they were divorced only that he left probably for London and it was some years before they heard he had died.

I have found it impossible to discover what happened to him after that and hope someone may be able to help.

Many thanks.

Asa Chadwick (1768) and Polly Reed (1772)

Many ancestry.com family trees have Asa Chadwick born in Easton, Mass. However, all of them list as their source the 1850 census. Yet, according to that census Asa was born in 1786, not 1768. I think they've all simply copied each other, and if it's a mistake, they've all simply copied the same mistake.

If he was born in 1786, then his daughter Jane Chadwick was born when he (Asa) was only 9 years old!

If someone has a different source for his date or place of birth I would like to know, please!

I also have a great grandfather Frederick Shadick, a variation of the last name Chadwick. His son Allan is my grandfather born in Canada in 1911. Frederick originated at a school for boys in England, where he received his education for carpentry. My mother has his diploma from the school and had assumed he was an orphan. He left for Canada with his brother Richard, who was lost at sea during the voyage.

I'm also researching a branch of the Chadwick family that moved from England to Rhode Island and then to Massachusetts, and immigrated to the US in the 1890's.

In particular, I'm focusing on Joseph H Chadwick, but I haven't been able to connect him to England.

In case anyone goes looking for the same information I did, I discovered the Joseph Benjamin Chadwick was the son of Ida Schimt (name may not be correct) and Joseph Harold Chadwick (born in England). He was the brother of Alice S Chadwick, who later married William Walter Turgiss.

I found a detailed account of the account here at: http://www.whitemtnews.com/?p=583

I've also got a record of his death, contact me if you want a copy :)

Re: Richard William Chadwick

Jennifer, I'm a San Diego Chadwick of the William John Chadwick/Bridget Huck line. My father's name was also Richard, and retired from the San Diego police force in 1976. I see your postings from 2000-2001, & I'm wondering did you ever establish William John's parents names, and where they came from with any certainty? Did you ever determine where in Canada William John was born?

Also, where you able to establish any lineage for the Hucks and Enrights in Ireland?
