Chamberlayne Board & List

This message is to inform all researchers of the surname Chamberlayne that there has been a Chamberlayne Rootsweb List created to compliment the new Chamberlayne Rootsweb Board.

As many of you may already know, this is using Rootsweb to it's fullest potential.

Joining the Chamberlayne List is free of charge. As a List member, whenever a message is posted on the Chamberlayne Rootsweb Board, you will receive an automatically triggered email with the content of the message and the URL of the posting.

Since a person has the feature of adding a photo to the Board, the URL in the email message is very important. The photo may only be viewed by actually going to the Board.

No emails from the Chamberlayne List will ever include an attachment and all of the emails will have [CHAMBERLAYNE] at the beginning of the subject title. This is a great feature since you may not recognize the email address of the sender.

As a List member you also may email directly to the Chamberlayne List members about Chamberlayne genealogy research.

All photos posted on the Chamberlayne Board must pertain to Chamberlayne research and they must meet the guidelines set forth by Rootsweb. No living person's photo is allowed and you may not violate the copyright laws.

To review the Rootsweb copyright and terms and conditions, you can find a link at the bottom of the Board.

To review some helps about Rootsweb in general and also some further guidelines for the Chamberlayne List, please visit http://www.berlindog.com/rw101.htm and read Rootsweb 101 - Making the Most of Rootsweb.

To join the List, click on the hyperlink at the top of this Board that says, 'Links & Announcements' I have included a hyperlink to make it easier to join the List.

I do hope that you'll join the Chamberlayne List and I hope that it will be an enhancement to your research.

Sherri
http://www.bagby.org

Chamberlayne on Ship List

A fellow researcher passed this site on to me and it has some immigrants by the surname of Chamberlayne.

The account of the Ship itself is quite tragic.

Then, there is a lengthy list of passengers. If you want to find the Chamberlayne surname quickly, hit Ctrl and f and a search box will pop up. Type in Chamberlayne. It will go to the first family. Hit search again and it will go to the next time Chamberlayne is listed.

Here is the URL of the site:
http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/marion1851.htm

Sherri
http://www.bagby.org

Chamberlayne - Marriage, Brunswick Co., VA

From the Fort Smith, Arkansas Public Library

Book:
Marriage Records of Brunswick County, Virginia 1730-1852
Augusta B. Fothergill

Groom:
Lanier, Sampson

Bride:
Elizabeth Chamberlayne
daughter of Samuel

Date:
24 SEP 1752

Sherri
http://www.bagby.org
Chamberlayne - Marriage, Virginia

From the Fort Smith, Arkansas Public Library; Book: Vital Records of Three Burned Counties: Births, Marriages and Deaths of King and Queen, King William and New Kent Counties, Virginia 1680 - 1860; Therese Fisher; Heritage Books.

Williamson, Robert C. merchant and Chamberlayne, Lucy P. S, POR King William; DOM, issue date 2 June 1818

This marriage record is most interesting to me. There was a Lucy "Parke" Chamberlayne who married Dr. George W. Bagby, M.D.

Dr. Bagby was a famous Author and Humorist. He was not born until 1828, so the Lucy P. Chamberlayne in this marriage record is not the same Lucy "Parke" Chamberlayne who married Dr. George W. Bagby.

Does anyone know who this Lucy P. Chamberlayne was and if she was related to Lucy "Parke" Chamberlayne?

Input is appreciated.

Sherri
http://www.bagby.org

Research site w/Chamberlayne matches

This has got to be one of the most amazing sites. There are strict guidelines of the use of content so nothing can be posted on the Rootsweb Board.

Here is the URL and a few instructions for those of you who may not have seen this site before.

http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/eagle/index.htm

When you pull that URL, click on:

It will take a bit for the next page, which opens another browser to load. When you get there, you'll see a tab at the top that says:

Keyword Search

Click on that tab. I left the default settings and in the box called:

Search Term

I typed in Chamberlayne. It will load some matches. You can click on the pics of the Newspaper icons and it will open a small browser so that you can read the entire article.

This is an amazing site. It's not just the content, it's the site itself that has me amazed. Hey...web design is my thing and I am just amazed. Did I mention I was amazed? lol..

A person could spend all day on that site, providing they were easily amused like me...lol...Enjoy !

Sherri
Chamberlayne Admin
http://www.bagby.org
