Re: Benjamin Chambers b. 1708-13 Ireland, to PA

If anyone still sees this thread, I don't believe Benjamin Chambers father was a Maj. James Chambers. I found something which indicates his father was "Randle or Rowland" Chambers, born in County Antrim in Ireland. This is from a book published in 1887 in Harrisburg that seems to have two parts: "Notes and Queries ... Dauphine County PA, (where Harrisburg is located), and Notes and Queries Chiefly relating to Interior Pennsylvania, Volumn 1."

There is a section on the Chambers that starts like this:

CHAMBERS OF DERRY AND PAXTANG (Twps. Of Lancaster County)

I. Randle or Rowland Chambers son of Arthur Chambers, with his family, all born in County Antrim, Ireland, emigrated to America in 1720, and settled in what was subsequently Derry and Paxtang townships, Lancaster County, Province of Pennsylvania, where they each took up separate and distinct tracts of land on which they resided several years. Rowland Chambers died in the winter of 1747-8 in Derry, leaving a wife Elizabeth and children among others, as follows:

i. Joseph, b. 1705; m. Catharine ____
ii. Benjamin, b. 1708; m. and removed to the Cumberland Valley – where he took up large tracts of land at Falling Spring, and subsequently laid out the town which perpetuates the family name.
iii. John, b. 1711; m. and had issue.
iv. Arthur, b. 1714; m. and had issue.
v. James, b. 1716; m. and had issue.
vi. Robert, b. 1719; m. and had issue; settled in the Cumberland Valley
vii. Henry; little is known of him.
viii. William.

II. Joseph Chambers (Roland) (And so on)

So Benjamin, who founded Chambersburg, was the son of Randle or Rowland Chambers who came with his children in 1720 and they all settled initially in the same area. Benjamin and Robert moved up into the Cumberland Valley. Sadly, it doesn’t give either of their children. I’m related to a Rowland Chambers, b. 1743 who died in Franklin County in 1791. He is likely the son of one of these, but which I don't know. Any ideas?

Here is a link to the book on-line, and Chambers is on page 244.
http://books.google.com/books?id=Z-gUAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA244&a...

Family of Allen Thomas Chambers of NY

I am looking for information about the family of Allen Thomas Chambers, born 4 Jan 1940 in one of the 5 bouroughs of New York City, NY. His mother was Irene Pearl Constance Etcher from Ontario, Canada. Her mother later married Jack Wills and Irene changed her surname to Wills. I have heard that Allen's father was named Allen, and I have also heard that it might have been Anthony or Tony. I heard that this Chambers branch were Ute Indians. Around 1963 or 1964 Allen married Mary Xenos, probably in NYC. They had one daughter, Mindi Chambers in 1965. In 1968 Mary was found dead in the bathtub.

I'm happy I could be of some help. I enjoy the hunt and it is doubly rewarding if it helps someone else. There are some Chambers in my husband's lineage but I don't think yours connect. I would like to think we did but I haven't found anything in his line that sounds like it could. Keep in touch!
I don't think I ever thanked you properly for your generous help. I had run into so many brick walls it was bizarre. Never had it happen like that so consistently, for so long, before. I'd never gone so long without finding someone else who was working on at least ONE of the same lines. No little green leaves waving (on Ancestry.com). I mean, not a single one! Sure was getting discouraging. So your help was a HUGE breath of fresh air. Thanks.

Now I'll go back and finish registering for Fold3 so I can check out the Dawes Rolls, etc.
I'll check and see what I can find. I also contacted All Things Cherokee which is a web site with some great information. They will even research for you but they charge. I'll get back to you after I look up my information. I do a lot of research and I have a lot of sites that I use for all kinds of information, so if you're interested, email me and I'll send those to you as well. Do you know any siblings? When did she die and where? What are her children's names? Do you know her mother's name, even if it is just her given name, but having her maiden surname also helps. Where in Oklahoma did she live? Any thing with names, dates and places would be a great help.

I am the son of Roy Francis Chambers, who is the son of James Warren Chambers, who is the son of Aaron G. Chambers who is the son of Aaron Chambers who is as far as I can figure it out is the son of John Edmund b. 1739 who would be my GGG GF in the colonal times. Aaron Chambers would be my GG GF I can pick him up under Porters Family, married twice and died Iowa, Union Haerison. I can go backwards and forwards, but i can't find much about him. I read a James Chambers inheriting property from Henry's wife if I am reading correctly. If that is the case, then Henry Chambers becomes my 4th generation vs John Edmund Chambers. Of course I will keep digging!

Hello Richie,

My fiancee is Mindi's half-sister. I have been trying to research this case the best I could with the limited information I have been able to gather from family members. From what I understand, you are a retired policeman and probably have a very unique outlook on this case. I'd appreciate hearing from you. I will not stop until I find Mindi.

Looking for Chambers DNA R1a1a

The name Chambers is common in the British Isles and has several unrelated patrilineal lines. The name can be Anglo-Norman, Scottish Clan Cameron, Scottish Clan Fraser or Scottish Clan Donald.
The majority yDNA tests are haplogroup "R1b" which can be Western European or Celtic. The next largest group is "I" which can be German or Scandinavian, possibly Viking.
One of the minority groups is "R1a" which is typically Norse Viking in the British Isles. I test R1a1a1 and positive for L448 and YCA II a/b at 19/21 which puts me in a group called "Young Scandinavian", a group that arose about 2000 years ago. The MacDonald Chiefs are in this group with two additional mutations that are fairly recent. About 25% of Macdonalds and related Highland and Isles Clans are R1a1a from Norse Viking ancestry.
So far I'm the only Chambers, except one adopted person, who tested as R1a1a. I'm hoping that other Chambers will take the test with Family Tree DNA (they are the best for finding matches). I understand that Clan Donald Chambers are 1 in 210 and, so far only about 60 Chambers have tested.
Please consider taking the test. It's about $100 well spent.
I am still trying to get the names of J. T. Chambers parents. This is my great grandfather. Your grandmoher was his step daughter. He married 1st. a Emma...had son Clarence....He and Emma are living next door to Rhoda Pharr...and daughters by Burton Lee Pharr in the 1880 Census records Beaver Dam Haywood NC. Joseph Taylor Chambers death record says his mother's maiden name is Rebecca. Could she have been named Rebecca Hall??? On those census records where I find these families living next door I also find several Smathers families. Please reply if you know the name of his parents...you stated a Jessie as a father...poss a Hall as a mother. I cant find any records. If you have dob's it might help me out somewhat. If anyone has his parents listed it would help me out. Thanks in advance.

I'm not much help but I'm looking for information regarding a Samuel Isbill Chambers born about 1821. He was a master brushmaker and I believe he travelled quite a bit. He married a lady named Jane. I know that his father's name was Richard and he died in 1844. His mother's name was Elizabeth Isbill 1801 to 1875. She remarried to Thomas Meole. She was a confectioner.

His son was my great, great grandfather Richard Thomas Chambers born Nov 6 1850 in Launceston, Cornwall, England. Richard moved to Blackstock, Ontario, Canada and then eventually on to Maryfield, Saskatchewan.

Any information at all about this line would be helpful. Thanks.

According to Census information he lists that his parents were born in South Carolina. According to his death certificate his father was John Henry Chambers & his mother was Maggie Hunter. John did not talk about his family much & was not raised by them. We do not know if they died or what. There is a family rumor that he had a half brother named Jack.

Hi Lucy,
My Chambers family were Thomas Chambers wife Jane Willcocks from Great Torrington, they married St Sidwell, Exeter 26 June 1803. Their children were;-
Thomas 1804, James 1805, Betsy 1807, Mary Ann 1808, Eliza 1810, JOHN 1818 Eliza 1820 and Charles 1825.
All the children except John were born in Exeter, he was born in Bideford.
John married Sarah Dwelly Smallridge and they had 8 children the first four in London and the last four in Exeter. My Great Grandfather was Charles Alfred born 1858 (Exeter) who married Emily Jane Bulpin in Somerset in 1886. Charles and Emily moved to Adelaide, Australia in 1890 and my grandfather, Roy Leslie and his brother Basil were born there. Emily and the boys moved to Kalgoorlie about 1805 after Charles died.
Not sure if our two families are connected but it would be great if they were.
Kind regards,

Lucille (nee Chambers)
Yours names and dates regrettably don't fit anything subsequent to his arrival. Good luck with your continued search. JA

GEORGE WASHINGTON CHAMBERS b. approx 1823

I would love to hear from anyone who has a father and son George Washington Chambers in their family history who lost contact with their kin. From what our family can ascertain, George Jr. was born in VA (I know that's vague but then, everything else about my knowledge of them is the same)and although his father was English George Snr. could have emigrated with his family or George Jr. could have emigrated to the USA alone. Whichever event took place, George Jr. subsequently went to Australia and married an Elizabeth Stewart (b. Limerick) in about 1855. They could have travelled together or met in Victoria. They settled in the Beechworth or Woolshed area of NE Victoria and had 7 children. I can find no records of a marriage, but family here think they tied the know in Woolshed. Also, according to records George died in Talgarno 1883 but no evidence of parents details is given. Here's hoping, Joanne
