Hi Ed,
I am a little late entering into this conversation, but hope you are still around and interested. I visited
Chapel Hill a year ago, and you are right--it is beautiful and deserted. However, I think they are building condos or a housing development right on top of the hill. Where did you find
Chesterfield Cemetery? I have asked the
Connecticut Historical Socieity and the New
London Historical Society; neither heard of it.
My Chapels are the Sandisfield ones. I have copied many deeds from the Great
Barrington County Clerk's Office as well as researched in Pittsfield--both in August 2002. Maybe we were there at the same time! My ancestor is Richard Crignon
Chapel and his second wife Sarah
Smith of Sandisfield. His parents are Richard
Chapel and Jemima
Comstock of
Montville, buried in
Chesterfield Cemetery.
If I recall properly, Patsy is descended from Richard Crignon
Chapel and his first wife, Grace Douglas. I found the cemetery where they are buried on
Roberts Road in Sandisfield, but could find no markings left on the tombstones.
The oldest daughter of Richard and Jemima is Martha, who married William
Congdon and resided in
Washington,
Berkshire County.
As my quest is to independently verify all
Chapel information, I am particularly interested in the
Chesterfield Cemetery and whatever other ones you find. Sounds like you did a great job!
Barbara
