Re: Chappell, Bernard LaFayette b. 1876 Georgia/d. 1920's?

Thank you so much for replying. My grandparents were Charles and Melba Stipe; the one you said you knew. It is so nice to meet someone who knew them since they've been gone so long. I miss not knowing them as an adult.

I do believe there must have been a divorce between Julia and Bernard. I found Bernard in directories also, and one of the researchers at the Ga. Archives told me it wasn't uncommon for women to list themselves as widowed rather than divorced. And, Julia is buried at Antioch in Fairburn next to her first husband with the name Stipe on her marker as well. She clearly wanted that affiliation to remain.

I know that Bernard Chappell owned some rental houses near the address that my g-grandmother lived at when she first moved to Atlanta from Oddessadale. Maybe that's how they met.

Do you have any pictures of Lena? I would love to see if there's a resemblance. And I'd love to hear anything you remember about my grandparents; how you knew them, etc. Thanks again for taking the time to reply - let me know if I can help you with any information.

Debbie

I'm actually here looking for info on the same person. Julia was the oldest sister of my grandmother, Lena Cox. Julia is listed in the 1930 census as "widow" - but in the Atlanta City directories thru 1945 a lawyer Bernard Chappell is listed, with death in January 1947 - this could be the same Bernard Chappell. I have wondered if he and Julia were perhaps divorced ? Julia had two sons, Carl and Charles - which is your grandfather? I knew Charles and his wife and daughter, but not Carl.

Hi Judy, The line I am looking for is George Chappell. Not sure were he was born or who is parent were. I do know that he married Elanore (Lena) Spiess from St. Peter, Mn. somewhere around 19o7 or 1908. They had a son George Wesley born on 11 February, 1909 in St. Peter, Mn. Somewhere between 1909 & 1911 they moved to Oregon where they settled and later they divorced. I do not know if this will fit into your line or not. Keep me posted. Thanks. We believe they were going back and forth from Rochester, NY to Greece, NY, and then Oscar was in Waterloo, NY for some time, and my dad's grandfather was George W. and lived and died in Waterloo. Any pictures/paperwork would be appreciated, as I have nothing from way back then.

All, apologies if I am in the wrong place; however, I am a geneology novice! I am looking for Robert John Chappell, married to Frances Firz, arrival in USA approx 1882 or 1892. All my searches, admittedly fairly basic, have resulted in dead-ends. I don't know much about the international searches and am wondering where else to look?! Thank you!!

Yes, William Wesley Chappell is in my family line, though not my direct ancestor. His father was Obediah Bentley Chappell (b-Aug 6, 1861) and mother Rosetter Coley (b-Sept 9, 1862) both in GA. More complete information may be available from John C. Chappell (Senoiaman@aol.com) who is more closely related. I have a Family Group Sheet for Obediah Bentley if you care for it. Your earliest ancestor which we have verified is Robert Chappell (and wife Agness) of Prince Edward Co, VA.
Virgle Chappell; vchapp@aol.com

Sally married William Chappell. If anyone has any information about them,or about their children, Grandchildren please reply. All I know is that they lived in Georgia, maybe Columbus,GA. but I'm not sure. They may have married in the late 1800s. It's been really hard to find anything about them. I don't know Sally's madden name, sorry. Thank you.

Hello, I am desperately trying to get somewhere on a very sticky branch. My great great grandmothers name was Elizabeth Chappell Brent she was born in Perquimans around 1852, she married a Thomas Abbott and moved to newbern and the outer banks area. We have been unable to trace her branch, all we know is that her father was probably a man named James Brent and her moms name may have been Rebecca. I am wondering if her moms maiden name was Chappell since Elizabeth had that middle name. I am wondering if any of you may have stumbled across any of these names in your research as I cant find anything. I know she was married in a catholic church, prior to that at 17 (1870 census) she lived with a sailors family (gray) as a servant , so I don't know if her parents had already passed at that point. Any help would be appreciated as I just cant seem to get anywhere on this and am in Michigan unable to go to NC for research. Thank you so much for your time, Amber
