My name is Sarah Elizabeth Chappelow. I am 30 yrs old. I am descended from James Chappelow who married Mary Cook Chappelow. My mother has two very large framed photos of them on her living room wall. I believe they are my 4x grt grandparents. I have come across a Dale Chappelow on Facebook who lives in Indiana and is a professional genealogist who seems to know relatives on the other side of the pond if anyone wants to see if he has any further info. I know a ton about my maternal side, but very little about my paternal side and both my grandparents and father have passed... sad for all involved. I would love to know more.

Hi, My Great grandmother was Edith Mary Chappelow born 1857, Middlesex,England. The family moved to Surrey.Sadly, She only had one brother, Henry Chappelow, Born 1860, Islington,Middlesex. He married some lady called Elizabeth According to the 1881 census. I have not gone further yet with his family but I will do so now and see if there are any living Chappelows in the UK for you.

Hi all, I have been reading this thread and there seems to be a connection with my Chappelows. My 5xGt Grandfather was John Chappelow,Born Spennithorne, N. Yorkshire in 1739. He married Mary Hammond anfd they had 5 children, John,Ralph,William,Mary and Thomas. Ralph, (b1769 Sand Hutton, Yorkshire), married Elizabeth Petch in 1792.They had a heck of a lot of children, including my 3x gt grandfather, William,b1794 in Ripley, Yorkshire. He married Sarah Wigzell(his 2nd wife) and they moved to Middlesex, England. I would love to know if this is the same family.

Your welcome for the info, I just hope it is correct.

I'm sorry but I don't know any of the Chappelows that live in England. All of my close relatives in the Chappelow line are deceased. I have a few distant cousins that live in the same area that I do. One of my cousins that is a Chappelow has done a lot of the Chappelow genealogy he may know someone, I could ask him.

If you get stumped on another family member just let me know and I might be able to help you.
This is my e-mail address: cklsfamilies@tds.net
I always feel so grateful for any info. Thanks once again.

By the way. Are you in touch with any of your Chappelow's that may still be living in England or there abouts.
William Chappelow

William Chappelow is my 4 x's great grandfather. His son Joseph is my direct line, then Joseph's son Thomas and then Thomas's son William b. Nov. 2, 1877 d. Oct. 15, 1957 was my great grandfather. He was born in Hendricks Township, Shelby Co., Indiana. His daughter Fannie Frances (Chappelow) Stickford b. Jul. 21, 1904 d. Jun. 5, 1984 was my grandmother.

I believe William's (b.1770) mother's name was Mary (Hammond). John and Mary were married on Sep. 23, 1765. I don't know if this is true it was given to me by a relative. You might be able to check it out. The children that I have are: John b. 1766, Ralph b. 1769, William b. 1770, Mary b. 1773, Thomas b. 1776, Martha b. 1779, Peter b. 1780, Rachael b. 1782, Joanna b. 1783, Luke b. 1785, Joseph b. 1786, Joseph b. 1787, James b. 1788, Ann b. 1791. I don't know anything about them. The two Joseph's maybe the same person or the first died as an infant and they named their next boy the same. Hope this helps someone.

I would love to have any information anyone has.
Thank you, Karen

She mentioned cousins in Australia and recenty we found a picture that has names Unee, Lola and Dorothy and says 2nd or 3rd cousins in Australia. It looks like a picture from the forties as the girls are pictured with 3 marines. Anyone in your family with these names?

I have since been looking more closely into this family . I think My great grandmother , Irene Florence Chappelow Pratt , was born in Abilene, Kansas in 1877. Her father was George Rider Chappelow who was born 1853 in Indiana. His father I think was Thomas Chappelow born 1813 England, and mother Mary Elizabeth Gray born 1820 England. I received info that his father was Ralph and mother Betty, but it would seem he is very intimately related to your William. I believe that Thomas was still living at home with William (if that is indeed his father) in 1840 in Dearborn, IN and brother John lives next door. Thomas and John are shown in Ancestry.com passenger and naturalization records with a date of 1840 and "Indiana". In 1850 my Thomas and his family are in Highland, Cedar Grove, Franklin, IN (he is a wagon maker). Both Thomas and his wife died before the next census, and I believe my George Rider, age 7, is living in 1860 in Logan, Dearborn, IN with Micheal and Elizabeth Williams (relation???) next door to your William, age 88, and John, and his family. I believe the William Chappelow living with John and Mary, age 9, is actually George Rider Chappelow's brother William Gray Chappelow. They appear to follow each other to Kansas, and then Colorado (William is a blacksmith both places). I have no proof my Thomas is the son of William and brother of John, but they are so intimately associated I can't think they are anything but cousins or borthers. Does any of this work with what you have??

Thanks!

Beverly

This is what I have on the Chappelow family in England.
John Chappelow, wife Mary?...had four sons that I have found so far. John was born 27 Jan 1739 in Spennithorne, Yorkshire, England.
children are; William b. 25 Nov 1770 Sand Hutton near Thirsk, Yorkshire, England, d. 6 Feb. 1866 Franklin Co. Thomas Chappelow born 10 Apr 1776 Sand Hutton ( no other information on him) Ralph Chappelow born 5 Apr 1769 Sand Hutton...and John Chappelow born 12 Mar 1776 Sand Hutton...
In the family plot at the New Trenton Cemetery In., It shows William Chappelow father 1770-1866, along with wife Elizabeth 1779-1856 and son Thomas 1813-1857, Mary wife of Thomas 1830-1855, I don't know if this is much help to you or not.
Thanks for your interest in our family. Actually my childrens family, I just married a Chappelow. I have actually missed placed my chappelow file. I know that I had it out working on it and I am sure I am over looking it. So, I will try from memory. which by the way I remember Fred in my genealogy of extended family. Wish I could put my hands on that file...Charles W. Chappelow married Charlotte and I think Fred might have been one of their children...don't quote me, Charles W. was the son of James R. a twin to Thomas T. Chappelow. James R. was the son of John Chappelow his wife was Mary and they were married in England. John was the son of William Chappelow the head of all Chappelow's to come to the states in the year of 1819. They all were a part of a colony that was organized many years prior to their voyage to the new world. They sailed on the Ship named Clio out of Liverpool to Phillidalephia. I would love to give you so much more if you would give me a day or so to locate my folder. When they came to the states the Chappelow family along with some of the other families setteled in Indiana. There is a ridge still to this day called Chappelow ridge in Indiana. Give me some time and please keep in touch. So great to find someone interested in this wonderful family.
Hi Rebekah, read with great interest your Chappelow history. You said your line comes through Charles W. Chappelow. Who were his parents and his birthplace and date? My uncle, Fred E. Chappelow was born to Charles and Charlotte (Lotte) on 6 Aug 1895 in Indiana and died in CA on 24 Dec 1962. His only living child is Jack, who is now 88 years old and living in CA..

I reckon Chappelow converted to Chapleo in Wensleydale (Leyburn & Middleham), Yorkshire. My grandfather lived in Middleham and died whilst living in Ripon, North Yorkshire.
I'm looking for the link between Cumberland (where I think they first came from) and Yorkshire.
