If you have this couple in your family tree, email me and I will send you their wedding photo. I found it in my mother's old photos. But they are not family members of ours as far as I know.

The names Cannelio and Donatella Chavez is written down below the photo. It could be Doratella but it sort of looks like Donatella.

My email address is clucerothompson2@aol.com

Obituary: Inge Chavez

Ingeborg "Inge" Angela Maria Theresia Besirske Chavez was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Aussig, Czechoslovakia, the fourth and youngest child of Vincenz Paul and Theresia Stohr Besirske. Aussig was in the border area between Czechoslovakia and Germany, and the family was culturally German. Inge remembered learning Czech as a second language in grade school. Her friends and family lovingly remember her great German accent.
World War II was an event that shaped the future of the entire Besirske family. All four children were young adults, and three were away from home - Judith, the eldest, was a medical doctor in Prague; Helmut, Inge's only brother, was an officer with the German Luftwaffe; and Inge was working as a physical therapy aide in the Alps, in a rehab hospital for injured German soldiers. Ilse, the third daughter, was the only one at home with both parents when the Russians took control of Czechoslovakia in 1945. The three of them abandoned their newly built home and fled to Germany, where they hoped the rest of the family would find them.
Inge often told the story of hiking through the Alps and finally arriving in Aussig, only to find no one at home. She stayed with friends, not knowing where her family was. Eventually, she was scheduled to join a harvest work crew to be sent deep into Czechoslovakia or Russia.
At that time, no one was allowed to leave the Russian-occupied territory without official permission to rejoin the family, which required physical proof that family was located somewhere else. On the very day Inge was scheduled to board a train to the interior, her old neighbors showed her a letter they had just received that mentioned that the entire Besirske family had one by one found their way to Munich, Germany - except for Inge, and did the neighbors have any news of her? With the help of that letter, Inge was allowed to leave and join her family.
In Munich, after the war, she met a handsome U.S. soldier from New Mexico, Moises Chavez Jr., and they were married on Feb. 16, 1948. She remembered that it required seven hand-typed copies of various security documents and character references before the marriage could take place. Inge and Moises left for the United States in September 1948, and the U.S. became her home.
In 1963, Moises retired from the military, and he and Inge brought their family to Seymour. Moises Chavez died in December 1996. Inge stayed in Seymour and considered it to be her true home, even after she moved to Loveland, Colo., in 2008. She made many good friends there, and was active in the golf community. She considered any sunny day above 40 degrees "perfect" for golf. Inge prided herself on her cross-stitch needlework. Her home was an impressive gallery for her talent.
Inge leaves her family and friends with many memories of her humor, and expressions of "Holy Cow!" "Oh, Wow!" and "You kidding!" when anything surprised her. Her love of shopping and Birkenstock shoes are legendary. Her love of "creamy" chocolate sweets drove many of us to extra pounds. She loved viewing the snow-covered mountains of Colorado, especially with Lake Loveland in the foreground.
Even in her later years, Inge was always curious about the world around her. She insisted that a friend bring her a black widow spider (in a jar) because she had never seen one before. Inge could be very opinionated. She was one of only a few people not impressed with golfer Tiger Woods (she thought he treated his caddies poorly), and the mention of a Tiger golf victory was always an invitation to a heated discussion.
Inge was preceded in death by her parents and all three older siblings. Those remaining to remember her life and stories include daughter, Roxanne (Steve) Goodrich, Loveland; son, Rod (Kim) Chavez, Crothersville; grandchildren, Tony (Dannette) Chavez, Rushville, Gina (Jim) Watkins, Seymour, Tenn., Lea (Dan) Bregar, Corvallis, Ore., and Amy Goodrich, Grand Lake, Colo.; and great-grandchildren, Maggie and Archer Watkins and Elliott Bregar. Inge leaves behind special friends Becky Ward and Theresa and Bob VonDielingen, Seymour, Peggy Hanson, Loveland, and Jack and Mary Goodrich, Fort Collins.
A memorial service at Sterling House Orchards, Loveland, and one in Seymour will be held at a later date.
Published in Tribune from April 7 to April 11, 2012
Have you come across anyone named German Chavez?? Probably born around 1850=1860. Not sure if he was married 3 times, or if it was just a mistake by the priest who wrote on his grandchildren records. I have him connected to Micaela Acosta, Maria Prieto, and mainly to Maria Nieto. He had a daughter, Teodora Chavez b. 1881. This line is my brick wall. Any help would be appreciated.

Obituary: Adela Munoz Chavez

On the morning of December 9, 2011 at summer house in Palm Springs, Calif., the Lord called out to our mother that her journey here on earth had come to an end and that her new journey to heaven had begun. She embraced with open arms the transition into eternity peacefully, faithfully with dignity. She happily left with the lord knowing that her family would be comforted in prayer, kind words and fond memories of her. Also knowing she would be met by her husband Raymond; daughter Rena; her father, mother and all her brothers and sisters in jubilant reunion. She's anxiously sharing stories about all her loved ones, who continue their journey here on earth. Adela was born September 3, 1920 in Berino, New Mexico to Jose G. Munoz and Maria Melendez Munoz. Adela was one of eight children from a poor family but rich in love. In her early years the family moved through New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona looking for work and eventually settling in the Coachella Valley. Through hard work, determination and a driving force success was now within their grasp in the furrows they toiled in as a family. Every morning Adela greeted the sun in the fields with her father, brothers, Bernardo, Manuel, Jose, Lorenzo; and sisters, Consuelo, Esperanza and Socorro, planting seeds, hoeing weeds, staking tomatoe plants, watering and feeding the plow mules; all before rushing off for breakfast their mother had prepared then rushing to school rushing home again rushing a quick bite before rushing back to the fields. This was their purpose, passion and pride. With growing success came more farming demands and less time for school, so at the end of Adela's eighth grade year her formal education ended but not before she captured the second place ribbon in singles tennis at the play day competition at Coachella Valley High. A feat she was proud of and fondly recalled because as she said, "I was good." The pinnacle for the Munoz family came when they purchased forty acres of sand dunes, mesquite and creosote brush on Hwy. 111 when it was a two lane dirt road between what is now Jefferson and Dune Palm Road. The word around town was that the rattle snakes were going to eat the Munoz family alive. They survived and developed the raw land into a working farm; success had come to the Munoz family with tractors, trucks, cars, a big new house atop a large dune overlooking their land, they had arrived. An American dream realized. All because of family, they were equally as important to one another no more, no less, yet each was as different as the seeds they planted in their soil. They thrived! During World War II the Munoz family, along with other family farms in our valley and farmers across the United States, helped keep our soldiers and all Americans fed and our nation strong. Her brother Lorenzo served in the military during the war and made his family proud. After the war, Adela met Raymond M. Chavez, a decorated veteran at a church gathering. They courted, they fell in love, they married on November 9, 1947, that was the end of being a farmer's daughter and a new start as a housewife. Together they started a family; Rena, Ray and Mary and raised them with purpose, passion and pride. Our mother and her family left their mark on the valley. What was once the family farm is now home to Costco La Quinta and surrounding 40 acres. The memories and visions of our mother and her family working the fields as we drive by will never be swept away by the winds of time. Adela is survived by her daughter, Mary Urquidez (George); and son, Ray Chavez (Rita); and grandchildren, Gina, Robert, Steven Urquidez and Andrian, Carlos Chavez, Sean Teran and Serena Kallejian; great-grandchild, Tuff Priddy. Adela was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Raymond; daughter, Rena Kallejian; a great-grandson; her father, Jose; mother, Maria; as well as four brothers and three sisters. Adela was the last of the Munoz family. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at Forrest Lawn in Coachella on December 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM.

To view and sign this guestbook, please visit: mydesert.com/obituaries

Published in The Desert Sun on December 14, 2011
Thanks for the information. There is a Mormon church not far from where I live in Houston. I will plan a trip there to see what is available.

In regard to the Sena question, the name is Teodoro or Ted Sena, believed to be from Duran, New Mexico and believed to have died in Phoeniz, Arizona circa 1940. Having said that, I think it is still too early to get you involved. I need to do a lot of that myself. But--you have already helped me greatly by providing the marriage information of my grandfather and grandmother Buenaventa in prior posts to this thread.

Hello,
The records are Catholic Church records that have been microfilmed by the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) church. LDS makes the films available for "rent" at their Family History Library's in their churches throughout the world. If your local church has a FHL then you can for a small fee have the original film sent to that church and then you must leave the film there, but they have readers for the films.

There are also 2 genealogy societies of New Mexico (HGRC and NM Genealogical Society) that have volunteers working on the transcription of those films. The information is then made available for sale in book format. I have several of the books at home (in California). I have also transcribed many records for my own personal research.

Hispanic Genealogical Research Center group is online and has what is called the "Great DataBase" which offers help on information submitted by people.

I am always happy to help other NM researchers when ever I can. Who is your Sena and when and where did he live?

Martha

This reply is to Martha Sanchez-Wilson. I noticed you cited the Manzano Marriage records. I was wondering where these records (microfilm) are located. I assume that they have not been put on electronic media.

I also noticed that you have posted great information on a number of New Mexico's family names including Sena which is the name of my mother's second husband. I won't inundate you with requests but I would like to believe that if I ever needed help, I could contact you. I expect that I would need to go back to my old home grounds in Mountainair to look at records there and, being new to this, I don't have any idea what records are available.

I have been looking through the census records and believe I have identified Grandma Benta's Father's line (Aragon) back to the 1830s and maybe 1790s. I will get back to you on that later when I have consolidated the data.

On another matter. I talked to my older brother who made several interesting comments. One of them was that he knew Tommy had been married prior to her marriage to Tom Semarge.

Another thing he said was that he said that Eutemio Buenaventa knew who his father was. My brother said that the last name was sounded like Caddle (pronounced Cad-dle. Your comment that a person whose last name was Kiidle was adopted by the Buenaventas made me think that perhaps your story may be related to Eutemio. I have searched the census records for anyone in the neighborhood where Petra Buenaventa lived that might have a name like that but have not found anything.

I found the following marriage records in the Manzano Marriage records: Document Source: Marriage Book No. 1, “Libro de Partidas de Matrimonios”, from Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Manzano, Territory of New Mexico, from December of 1874 to December 1913. Microfilm FHL 0016-846

On the 1st of October of 1881, I married Eduard Marshal son of W. M. Marshal and of Lucy, of Monford, N. Y. with Petra Buenaventura daughter of the deceased Santos Buenaventura and of Candelaria Fresquez, of Tome. Padrinos, Miguel Cedillo and Isidora Romero. (Note: The groom’s mother's surname not shown).

No. 3. On the 10th of April of 1899, after dispensing of the 4th degree of Consanguinity, I married very solemnly Maximiano Samora 25 years old, single, legitimate son of Jose Samora y Candelaria and of Francisca Sedillo with Virginia Buenaventa 15 years old, single, daughter of Petra Buenaventa, from El Manzano. Witnesses, Francisco Jose Chavez and of Dolores Zamora.

Page 347.
No. 1. On the 30th of November of 1912, in El Manzano, I married very solemnly Eutemio Buenaventa single (20 years), iligitimate son of Petra Buenaventa with Francisca Aragon single (20 years), legitimate daughter of Jose Aragon, deceased, and of Maria Sedillo, from Los Ranchos del Manzano. Padrinos, Lorenzo Zamora and Francisca Maldonado.

Fellow NM researcher, Martha Sanchez-Wilson

As I mentioned, I am just getting started so at the present, I can only relate what my mother told me. She said that the Buenabentas came directly from Spain. Acccording to what I have found regarding Santos Buenaventa, (Eutemio Buenabenta's grandfather) he was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. My mother often shaded the truth so her statement might be off.

She said that Frances Benta was half Spanish and half French and at one time spoke some French. I don't have any other information at this time.

According to my mother, Eutemio Buenaventa was half Spanish and half Irish. At one time she said that his father was an O'Carrol. What is missing is Petra Buenaventa's history between her marriage to Eduard Marshal and her marriage to Sisneros. If Eutemio was the son of Eduard, why did he wind up with Buenaventa as his last name. Perhaps Eduard died or was divorced from Petra, and Petra bore Eutemio out of wedlock.

Perhaps, it might be easier if we communicated by phone. I believe that if you are a member of ancestry.com you can send an email to me.

Hola primo/a!

Wow - that is fantastic to know. I've had the hardest time finding any information about the Buenabentas/Bentas/Buena Ventas. I'm hoping to go down to New Mexico some time this year and go record hunting.

Tommy, my grandmother, got a divorce from her first husband. We didn't know about all of that until my father was about 45 years old, but it seems to have closed off the family history to us. We're all terribly curious, but my grandmother wouldn't talk about the past while she was alive and passed away in 1999.

Do you know where the Buenabenta family originated? I corresponded with someone on another board who said that we were Castillian, but another who said that we may be descended from Conversos. No reason why both couldn't be true, really.

Thank you for the information! I am anxious to learn more about the Buenabenta family and haven't had much luck thus far. Do you know who Eutimio Buenabenta's father was? I got word from this board that he may be an Eduard Marshall (Edward Marshall), but the only one I can find looks like he stayed in Mississippi his whole life.

I have just started looking into the Benta/Buenabenta family. I have satisfied myself that Ed B Benta in the 1930 census is my grandfather Eutemio Benta who is shown in the 1910 census as Entinio Buenaventa.

You are right that Tommy Semarge is the Tommy Benta in the 1930 census. My mother, Carolina or Carolyn Benta in that census, was Tommy's sister. It sounds as though your father is my cousin.

I believe Frances Benta's maiden name was Aragon. I seem to remember that from a baptism record I saw a long time ago.

Febrero 10 de 1868.
Bautize a Maria Tircia Baros, hija legitima de Gregorio Baros y de Dolores Griego, de Puerto de Luna. Padrinos: Pedro Chavez y Maria Lus Chavez.

This record is not confirmed but should be treated as a strong lead. In subsequent, Anton Chico baptismal records Isabel Garcia and Maria Tercia [sic] Baros register their progeny. The first record is booked in January of 1882 and the family is located in Puerto de Luna. If true, Maria T. Baros would only be an early teen when she begins her family with Isabel.?
