I might be able to help (and you have helped me as well!)- James and Caroline Weston are my ancestors, and I have noticed Laura Lovelace before on their 1860 census and wondered who she was.

Edward and Phoebe Chenoweth had another child, John (b 1803 in England, d 1860 Brooklyn, New York). He married Caroline Michell (1806-1863), and they had a daughter Caroline. I think that is Caroline Weston. This would mean Laura Lovelace was Caroline's aunt.

Elwood Chenoweth was my great grandfather. He drown while crossing the Grande Ronde River. He was working in Troy OR. he was returning home to Powatki OR (Both in Wallowa County) but never arrived. They found his horse but not him on the other side of the river. He always crossed at the same area but the river was extremly high then. Severl weeks later some people found a body of a drowned man and buried him in an unmarked grave that is now an area called deadman reef. The men who found the body said it wad old man Chenoweth. but that could never be verifyed. THere was no alchol or bullets involved, it was JUST a tragic drowning. I have always been told that though he was known to be grumpy he did not drink in the last years of his life.

Hi Kari my name is Dell Ashcroft and my grandfather was William Chenoweth who married Caroline Wordsworth Murray in Townsville and lived at Manton.

They had seven daughters and the youngest three are still alive - Myrtle (92), my mother Jean (88) and the baby Lorna (85) and they all live in Townsville. Your grandmother was in hospital when my late Dad was in hospital. I can still recall Dad calling out from his hospital bed - "Is that you Billy Cass?" and he even made the walk to her room even though it was difficult. Dad passed in March 2009.

Which one of the daughters is your mother?

My husband and I are off to the UK in September as we have just found that his maternal great grandfather came from the Shetland Islands. I hope to catch up with John Chenoweth while we are over there. This will be our final visit over to the UK. We went over in 2008.

Don Curkeet (our relation through Priscilla Carkeet) has been wonderful in his assistance with my finding out about our ancestors.

Please contact me as I am happy to share any information I have.

Dell

Don this visit I am determined to be very well for our week in Cornwall and definitely will be visiting St Erth. Especially since you advised me of the origins of the Chenoweth family. We went to Gunwalloe Fishing Cove last time as well as Portleven and through Helston.

This time will do the Lizard.

Glad Wanda and you enjoyed those "very wide highways" there.

Yes, I would say Australia is like America, long open highways. When we lived out west in Mount Isa the trip in to visit our families was 900 kilometers each way. A little different in the UK. Beautiful scenery though.

I must admit though I really like the journey between Mount Isa and Cloncurry. It has a beauty all of its own.

I will not be driving at all, just like last time I will leave it up to Jim. I will navigate and also let him use the camera.

This will definitely be our last trip out of Australia as it costs us so much to travel from here. Glad I don't have to spend 3 months on a boat to make the trip like my ancestors.

My youngest sister Cheryl and I still take our Mum out to Manton to visit Dad regularly. Like to try for each fortnight but sometimes is might be longer if Cheryl is working. We enjoy the time sitting there with Mum near Dad, with a cup of tea and a snack. Do some weeding and we take about 25 litres of water out with us to water the plants we have going on Dads plot. No water connected to the Cemetery at Manton - a bush spot.

Will talk again Don.

Aussie Dell

While in Cornwall we wanted to get to Porthleven but we pick the weekend and found out to late that they had a town fair (food fest) going on, everyone was coming. I would image Australia is like America with lots of open space for road, Cornwall is not. The wife did the driving while I used the camera, it was hard for her but she did some what good towards the end of the vacation. Saddly we didn't get to Porthleven, Helston, Breage, Sithney & Constantine, so didn't photograph the cemeteries gravestones. Did do 14 parish cemeteries in Lizard Peninsula, which is about 16 in all. Am tring to get these images on a web site for others to view but not real smart on using the Frontpage program, hopefully will get it though.

Will your husband and you make it to that area? The Chenoweth surname started in St. Erth and would be kind of neat to see if any of the ancestors gravestones exist there. I think the oldest stone I found was in the 1600s.

Oh, by the way, we had a perfect time there, so much to see and do, and didn't wear out my camera like I thought I would...don

Hi how are you? Haven't done much on fammily history since my Dad past. Good to see your name again.

The Jumna is the name of the boat the Chenoweth family travelled to Australia on in 1890.

Rachel Marrian was only married once as far and I can ascertain. I believe she was a good cook and liked to read. I have inherited these Chenoweth traits. Well I like to cook don't know about the good bit. though.

We are going back to the UK in September for 9 1/2 weeks. Going up to Shetland Islands to see where Jims ancestors came from.

From one end of the British Isles to the other. Hopefully I will meet up with John Chenoweth of Wiltshire this time. Contact with John made since we our first visit.

I will have to get myself organised before we leave Australia as when we return in November we should be proud grandparents to our third grandchild. Our daughter Natalie and her partner Ryan are into the 13th week of pregnancy. Very happy and excited about this as it was something we never expected. As Natalie with be 38 when she gives birth she is going through the rounds of tests at the moment and has only told both sets of parents and siblings.

Another one to add to the family tree.

Bye for now

Aussie Cousin Dell

If they met in 1890 and their first child was born 1893 I would think they would have married in 1892, or so, not 1902, but I've never been to Australia so can't say.

I am related to the Chenoweth's twice, in Cornwall. I don't know how much you are into their lineage but I've got them back in to the 'Visitations of Cornwall' and know the surname was started at St. Erth. If you are interested in it, my address is cricket_@ameritech.net.

I think I have this Rachel Chenoweth wrong but it is:

George Henry Bolster, born 1872, died 20 July 1943, Townsville Queensland, AUST (could the birth 12/2/1872 & death 19/7/1943 be his?)

mar-25 April 1902 Townsville, Queensland, AUST. married to:

Rachel Marrian Chenoweth, born 1873, chr. 7 Dec. 1873 St. Martin in Meneage, Cornwall, ENG, died 2 Oct 1946 Townsville, Queensland, AUST.

They had 8 children from 1893 to 1904, one child had a middle name Stanley. I don't think she married twice and the children being born before marriage is questionable.

The GRO index had Rachel born 1873, Helston District, Dec. 1/4 :) :(

I photographed the Cornwall gravestones from St. Mawgan to Gunwalloe and all parishes south til Lizard Point, I think I seen gravestones of Bolster, was he Cornish?

What is Jumna, is that a town or cemetery where she die or was buried at?

Also, the marriage in 1890 makes more reasonable for the birth of thier children.
John Arthur Chenoweth 1867-1935 Resolving his Place of Death

It seems there is much question and/or disagreement on where John Arthur Chenoweth of Indiana and Darke County, Ohio died. I would like to put the question to rest. I have found his death certificate and attached it to his file in my family tree. (He is my great-great grandfather)

He died in Darke County, Ohio and was buried in Earlham Cemetery, Richmond, Indiana.

You can view his death certificate here: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/17773174/person/556003812

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

Joseph Chenoweth and Isabel Bristol

I am a descendent of Joseph and Isabel, through their daughter Catherine Chenoweth who married Oliver P. Beekman; their daughter Lousia D Beekman who married John Wesley McCoy; their son Harry C. McCoy who married Mary Zook; and their son Frederick P McCoy.

I notice that there is some debate to the birth place of Isabel, and the statement that her parents are unknown. I may be able to shed some light upon these two questions. based upon a recent trip to Ohio and having her father's Revolutionary War pension package in hand. Much of what I have substantiates the relationship in reverse, until I perform some extensive digging in Penssylvania.

Joseph Chenoweth and Isabel were married 7 Nov 1816 in Mifflin Twp. Pike County, Ohio by John Parker, Justice of the Peace. By 1829 an untimely death of both parents left the children orphaned. Circumstance, cause of death, and burial location are unknown; this suggest a communicable dease outbreak. Documents discovered: (1) appointment of "Benjamin G. Bristol" Estate executor, dated: 25 Oct 1828 to liquidate the estate of Joseph and Isabel Chenoweth. (2) Guardianship ordered by the Pike County Court during the 1829 March Term, after the appropriate bond posting verification, to Rueben Bristol for the following children: Alvina, Isaac, Rebecca, Arthur, Catherine, and Isabella Chenoweth heirs of Joseph Chenoweth late of Pike County...

Who are the two Bristol referred to: Benjamin Bristol is Isabel's younger brother and Reuben Bristol is her father. Reuben Bristol was born in New Haven Connecticut, 1755; married first Emma Benham who died in 1786; about 1790 Reuben removed to Westmoreland County Pennsylvania where he remained 5-6 years; he next removed to Bourbon County Kentucky where he remained for 3-4 years; then on to Mifflin Twp, Ross County Ohio.

Isabel's birth place is more correctly stated as Westmoreland Pennsylvania. This would include Reuben's second marriage to Catherine Galbraith. Their union yielded five children: Isabel (PA), Benjamin (KY), John (OH), Reuben Jr. (OH) and Theresa (OH)

In summary:
Isabel's parents are: Reuben Bristol (1755-1851) and Catherine Galbraith (1771-1850); both are buried just south of LAtham Ohio.

Isabel's birth place is not Ohio of 1791 but, Pennsylvania Westmoreland County.
Hello

I'm searching for information about

Jane Walton (possibly 'Watson') CHENOWETH.

Jane married Charles HOWARD on 18 May 1854, at All Souls, Saint Marylebone, London, England (in Langham Place?)
Apparently (according to a reunion booklet that I have from the '80s) she was the daughter of William Chenoweth, a tailor.

I estimate Jane was born about 1825 (because she died 11 Mar 1905 at Peterborough St, Christchurch, New Zealand at the age of 80 years).

Does anyone have a connection to my Chenoweth?

Dell
Nice to hear from you. Sorry to hear about your mother - hope she's doing well.
It was my cousin (Alan Hardwick) who started looking into our ancestors some time ago.He recently passed all the information he's gathered over to me so I am quiet new to tracing my ancestors.
I've asked my mother if she would look through her old photos to see if she has any which would be of interest to you and also to me.
If you email me on john@chenoweth333.orangehome.co.uk I will gladly forward you all the information I have on the Chenoweth family and hopefully some photos.
At this moment in time I have no information on our great great great grandfather John. Anything you could tell me about him as well as your ancestors would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
John

John thank you for responding to my query on the Chenoweths of Gunwalloe and Porthleven. I am not sure if I forwarded a reply to you before.

I am very interested in any information or photos of this family you may have. My mother who is now 86 (and broke her hip nearly 3 weeks ago) knew very little about her father's family in Cornwall other than the fact that he had a cousin named Richard (1884). Until I started researching the family name we didn't even know where in Cornwall they lived.

I was able to tell her that our great, great, great Grandfather, John (like you) lived to the age of 84 and that he died in 1851.

As my Great Grandfather died as a result of a waterside boat accident in August of 1907 and my Grandfather died in 1934 of cancer when my Mum was about 9, I never had the priviledge of knowing them. My Grandfathers two older sisters, Rachel Marianne (known as Marianne) and Mabel Eveline died before my birth in 1947.

I had found your Great Grandfather Samuel and his wife in my searches but seemed to come to a stop. I really would be very interested in hearing from you with any news on our Chenoweth family.

The Chenoweth name died out when my Grandparents had seven daughters: Caroline Eveline May, Mona Priscilla Ethel, Ivy Marianne Ellen, Irene Dorothy Louisa, Myrtle Alice, Jean Carkeet (my Mum) and Lorna Wallace. Of the seven girls Lorna was the only child to have blue eyes and blonde hair. All her siblings had brown eyes and dark hair.

Look forward to hearing from you John.

Dell

Charles and Grace Chenoweth were also my great great grandparents. I believe they had six children - William, Charles, Elisabeth, Laura, Samuel and Richard. Samuel Chenoweth was my great grandfather. He married Christian Tregear and they had four children. One of the children was called Samuel John. He married Emily Caroline Marsh and they had six children one of whom was George who was my father.
If you require any more detailed information do not hesitate to contact me.
John Chenoweth

Elwood Ashton Chenoweth b: October 10, 1872 in Indiana d: Abt. April 1902 in Wallowa Co., Oregon. He was married to Cora Evelyn Wortman. Does anyone know how he died for sure? I have heard two different versions of the story and in both he ended up in a river dead, but one was he got drunk and drown trying to cross the river the other was he had a bullet wound, had been robbed and thrown in. I was wondering if anyone had an obit or more acurate record?
