I looked up your great-grandfather's family in 1900 and 1910. In 1900, they were James Alvin Cheshire, age 39 and Etta Albea age 33 both born North Carolina. In 1900,they were living in Statesville, Iredell Co. North Carolina. They had a 14 yr-old daughter Ozelle Bertha Cheshire b. 09 Jun 1886 NC d. 16 Mar 1952 Los Angeles, CA. She married Edgar O. Hugill and in 1951 was living in Long Beach, CA. In 1900, Laymon is 12 and his birthdate is given as Sep 1887. He was born in NC. The youngest boy listed is Lamon's 9 yr-old brother Romey Thomas Cheshire b. 24 May 1891 NC d. 07 Jul 1979 IL. In the 1910 Census, the Cheshire family is living in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida. Bertha Ozelle Cheshire is listed with Janes as her surname, so she was married at age 23, but living with her parents and brother Lamond A. Cheshire, age 21. Romey T. Cheshire married Alice (Olie) Smith in Jackson, Missouri on 20 Jan 1912. They lived in Chicago as his WWI Draft Registration Card indicates. In 1951, he was living in Long Beach, CA with his spouse named Bessie Cheshire. Romey's last social security address was Lombard, DuPage Co. Illinois.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with either of those requests. I don't know the cemetery where they are buried. As far as pictures go, my grandparents (on both sides) moved to Phoenix and didn't keep in touch with any of the relatives from their home cities. There is no connection with anyone further out than my aunts and uncles. So, I don't have any pictures to share with you. Sorry.

I have just returned from MS, where my sister Vicki and I went to tunica county and searched the oakwood cemetery to see if we could find Washington and Rebecca cheshire's graves. No luck. There are many cemeteries in the county, would you know where they are buried? I had Rebecca's death in 1880 which did not seem right. Glad to find the right date was in 1890. Are there any pictures of the family? I have some of Emma and her daughter Amy, my grandmother, but of no one else in the family.

My great grandmother was Emma E. Cheshire Salmon, who was born in Hardamen County, TN in 1865 to Washington and Rebecca Pankey Cheshire. I have information that her parents moved to Tunica County and died there. Rebecca probably died about 1880 and Washington died in 1900. I am interested in finding out where they are buried. My great grandmother is buried in Morrilton, Ark.

I think we could be from the same line. I haven't done as much research on the Cheshires as I should be this is what I have:

Washington Daniel Cheshire - born 10 Oct 1822 in Rowan County, NC - died 18 Jun 1900 in Tunica County, MS. He married:

Rebecca Ann Pankey - born 1 Apr 1828 in TN (Probably Hardeman) - died 7 Nov 1890.

They had the following children: Lewis A, William Albert, James M, Virginia Ellen, Martha A (my g-g-grandmother), Ida Alline, Nancy Eva, Mary W, Emma born 1865 (appears to be your great grandmother), Robert L, and Frank.

Feel free to contact me directly. I love to discuss family history.

Hi,

I have researched the family of my wife's maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Cheshire (1892-1972). Her father James was born in Liverpool. Her mother Ellen McClure was born in Ayrshire. They had 8 children, Frances, Alexander Ellen William, Elizabeth Caroline, Louisa and Harold. All but Harold were born in Liverpool. The family moved to Glasgow in 1901, where Harold was born 1902.

The father, James, died in Glasgow 1913. In ones, twos and threes the rest of the family emigrated to Chicago in the United States, so that by the end of 1914 only Elizabeth, Ellen and Harold were left. Elizabeth died in Glasgow. I do not know where Ellen went. Harold was the last to emigrate, after WW1, which he survived, serving as a regular in the Artillery.

If you think you may have a connection with this family I will be glad to give you as much information as you need.

Regards,

John

Hello Back At You Cuz,
One thing about family names, you never see their middle names,so we don't know it they have used them in some of the info we recieve from others..
As told to me there were four Cheshire Brothers,Turpin abt.1698,Justin/Justine abt.1700,Travis abt.1702,john abt 1705..
I have William II born abt.1668 and dieing abt.1731/32 inSt Mary's County Md.,Mary Tennison born abt.1672....
If you really want the lowdown on The Cheshire's you need to contact Faye Moran at "fmoran@erols.com"..
You can see alot of info when you type in The Family Of Elizabeth Cheshire....

Ah, it looks like we are linked way up at the top of the chart. My information, which I can only verify up to 1800 and the rest has been provided by other researchers, indicates:

William Cheshire - William Cheshire Jr and Mary Tennison - John Cheshire and Priceliea Gott - Jonathon Cheshire and Lucy - Tennison Cheshire and Eve Sain - Washington Daniel Cheshire and Rebecca Ann Pankey.

My information does not show a Turpin Cheshire as a sibling, but there is an Eliza Cheshire as a sister to William Jr.

So, if the research is correct, we are related. A pretty far ways along the tree, but still related. Hello cuz!

:)

Sure.

Washington Daniel Cheshire was born in 1822 in Rowan County, TN - to Tennison Cheshire and Eve Sain. His siblings are: Lewis A, William Albert, James M, Virginia Ellen, Martha A (From which I am descended), Ida Alline, Nancy Eva, Mary W, Emma, Robert L, and Frank.

Martha A Cheshire married Millard Fillmore Jones and had the following children: Neale (Homer), Millard (Bud), Annie Civil (my great grandmother), Robert Hall, William Hunter, Francis (Frank) Alva, and Henry Clay.

Did that help? Who are your ancestors, maybe I can look at my data and see if they are in my family tree.

Randy

I gleaned alot from the censuses and social security records. Will be glad to share what I have figured out in exchange for information on your line of the family. Please feel free to contact me at copperthorn@actionnet.net. I researched the Cheshire line for William Edward "Bill" Cheshire Sr., who's father was Howard Raymond "Sam" Cheshire Sr. ( a brother to your father, Ned). His father was Howard Raymond "Sam" Cheshire Sr. and his mother was Velma Lorene Rotruck. You have alot of family in the New Creek, Keyser, WV. area plus alot of cousins. I am not good at e-mailing things but snail mail works for me. Thank you for answering the message board. Hope to hear from you soon.

I have a complete list of my Cheshire grandfathers and most of their wives right back to 1530. However, those before my 3Xg grandfather I am unable to verifiy as these came from a source in Australia via another contact and I have been unable to contact the original source. Many of my other contacts have family trees based on the same information but I believe it all derived from the same source, which is not to say that it is necessarily inaccurate.

Recently my husband a descendant of John Chesher/Cheshire, now Chesser b. abt. 1769 VA (m. 1795 Fauquier, VA to Sarah Hawkins) had his DNA analyzed with 46 markers. There were no close matches other than a man with the surname of Chess. I am extremely interested in Turpin Cheshire b. 1698 MD and Richard Cheshire. I have not seen too much on this line. The Fitz Randolphs are an allied family of our Chessers as well through VA, OH, and IN.
You might try going to the 1900 census, and looking for the name there. There is a soundex code, and would give you the various spellings.

The 1900, and 1910 shows when they were married, how many children they had, how many were still living, and where they were born, and where their parents were born

Our name is Cheshier, and some do Chesser, Cheshire,
