Just an FYI. It appears that the dates you have typed in for your ancestor, Leah Chew, must include a typo for her death date, Shelly: (1839-1967)

Please correct, by re-posting, that no one currently on this board--or anyone arriving here later- picks up the incorrect dates.
Hi, Ollie
I have a Hannah Chew and her husband John Carter but Hannah's birth had to have been in the 1700s because her parents John Larkin Chew (1710-1756) and Margaret Beverely were born after the 1600s. I do know they had a daughter named Mary Beverely Carter. Don't know if this helps, but good luck.

Hi, Nicholas

We both are descended from Larkin Chew, but me through his son Thomas who married Martha Taylor (relation to 12th president Zachary Taylor).
Thomas and Martha's son Joseph married grace Deshon.
Their son William Johnston Chew possibly married a Margaret Mt. Pleasant.
Their son William Chew married an Eliza Thompson and through their daughter Leah Chew am I related because she married William Harry Patterson.

I would appreciate from anyone any information connecting to this family. I even have some names going further back when John Chew (1587-1668) lived in England. I do have it traced back to possibly a knight in William the Conqueror's army but if that's not right than just to a man named Alvred (1100-1170).

Well I don't know about the first Chew but I have learned of a knight(1030-1106) who may have been part of William the Conqueror's army. I have no name and neither with his son, but with his grandson named Alvred (1100-1170).
Now the 1st Knight lived back in Normandy, France, and died in Somerset, England but the son was born in Devon, England. Apparently, the family was given title and land.
I can trace their descendants to John Chew who immigrated to the States in 1622 and all the way up to Leah Chew (1839-1867) whom married into my fall of Patterson's.
But I would also appreciate any more information on this lineage.

Please does anyone have 'recent' information regarding Ivy Chew, born 19/5/1904, with a twin sister May? Ivy married Albert Beard Q1 1931, and had daughter Constance Margaret. Ivy then left the family when the child was young. It is believed she went off to join the war effort never to be heard from again. Rumour has it that she may have been a GI bride, although the marriage to Albert was never officially ended. Any information from 1936 onwards would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

Did you find much on the Yoe family in Calvert Co. in the early to mid 1700s? I especially want to know more about Ann (Jarman) Yoe; what became of her after her husband John Yoe died about 1733? Who was her father? Her mother's name was also Ann, but what was her mother's maiden name? I'd also like to know who the daughters of John Yoe married in either Calvert or Queen Anne's Counties.

My email address is german@jarman.net

Chew/Bond????

So up until yesterday I was under the assumption that "Bond" came from the paternal side of my family, when actually it came from the maternal side. I was researching my great grandfather, Edward E. Bond and found out he was living with a bunch of "Peaks" when he was a child along with his sister and grandmother, Louisa Bond. In my search to find out what happened to his parents, I found out that the wife of "Peak", May Peak, was actually Edward's mother and Bond was her maiden name. She apparently was married before for a few years from like 1914 to 1918 to a Chew from New Jersey. I know this because in a 1920 census it has her living with her parents, Levi and Louisa Bond and her and her children's last names were Chew still. Please if anyone has any information at all about the Chew family I may be related to, I would really appreciate it. Info I have is: Edward E. Bond (Chew) born July 24, 1917, Jennie Bond (Chew) born in 1916. May Bond (Chew) born in 1890, married a Chew in 1914. I really want to know who this Chew is and did they divorce or did he pass away or get killed in World War I. Thank you so much for your time:)

Nan, listed usually as Ann, Chew, daughter of Larkin Chew Sr and Hannah Roy, married William Johnston b 1697 Annandale Scotland. One of their sons was named Larkin Chew Johnston b 1727. I know the Johnston spelling is correct, as I am descended from that line. Some parts of the family later did use Johnson, however.

The actual book reference is to vol. 12, p. 60. The payments include ones to Robert JARMAN and John JARMAN "on a suit in Calvert County".

Unfortunately, Calvert Co., MD, records were destroyed in a court house fire.

Robert JARMAN (or GERMAN), c1680-1761, and John JARMAN were brothers. It is only copies of pages 289,291,295,322,328,343,344,345,357,398, From there I am missing, it seems allot of information. I do not know if she did not recieve the information or it was lost over the years.
page 345 mentions " 7 Nathaniel C. 2 b. 29 apr 1799 , nj d. 2 jan 1884 glou.co.nj. married 1 nov 1823, Rachel Eldridge, b.3 jun 1801, d. 17 dec 1877,and children; 8 Theodore,8 Elmer, 8 elwood, 8 samuel, 8 eli, 8 Job, 8 Martha 3, 8 rachel 2, 8 Anna 3, 8 Achsah, 8 Elisha 1, 8 Howard"...and so on. It does not give me any birth dates of his children to verify if i am looking at the right Theodore, and it, seems to be missing all the info for those children.such as B;D;M; wife etc..
then on page 322 Mentions "8 Theodore, see 9 Lewis 2 ref 1260 ....9 Louis 3". and so on.
I am looking for some accuracte information, that either will tie father and son together or information that will tell me this information is incorrect.
they are th parents of Lewis Albert chew. I know for sure, there is plenty of evadance on Ancestry o support that. What i am looking for is some kind of evadance to support that Nathaniel Chew is Theodore Chew's father. My grandmother paid for a Geneology report in 1983. It is rather sketcy. It show that nathiel C Chew is his father, But i need more information, that shows me that he is indeed his father, befor i add this information to my tree.
have i worded my Querey wrong, or said somthing i shouldnt have ??
I am looking for the correct geneology information to add to my ancestry tree. I do not just add any thing i need proof

My Grandfathers mother was Rachel Ann Chew who married William Shemely. I dia pretty good with information concerning her parents Lewis albert Chew and Lorena Ewan, i have been able to find the 1860,1870 census Gloucester New Jersey and match it with my grandmother information with children Sara, Rachel, Louis, Ola, Martha, Earl, Amy. From there I have Theodore Chew and Sarah McFarland, 1850,1860,1870,1880,1900 census. Although my grand mother had his name at "Eli" i found it to be incorrect. It was Theodore Chew, Eli could had been a nicname for him. He was married to Sarah McFarland. There children were George, Lewis,Rachel,Sarah,Mary,Drucella, Hattie, William, Thoedore. from there i am having trouble seeing the possible connection to Nathaniel C Chew and Rachel Eldridge, can any one help me with this ?
i see if he is connected to Nathaniel c. Chew. There is allot of history there. I do not want to add unless i know for sure. Can any one help me with this situation or possible share their tree and findings
Thank you

Tim, can't thank you enough. I am a great-great grandaughter of Laura Susan Chew, my older sister is named after her. She married James N. Nicholas and their youngest child was Fred Claude Nicholas, my great-grandfather. I was named after his wife, Martha Ann Ellis. Should you want to pursue the Fred Nicholas line, I would be happy to oblige.

I just looked around a bit online re: the "Genealogy of the Chew family" by Robert L. Chew. At least one Chew family message board poster said that much of the information in the book has never been authenticated, so it's not been proven.

You might want to look at the entire book to see what the writer's sources were.

Worldcat.org can tell you which libraries have the book. You may be able to borrow it via InterLibrary Loan. See:
http://www.worldcat.org/title/genealogy-of-the-chew-family/o...

One thing I noticed -- If Nathaniel IS the father, it's unlikely that Theodore's nickname was Eli, since one of his brother's was named Eli. Perhaps Theodore's wife had married two brothers, after one passed away...??? That was fairly common.

Mary Chew, Daughter of Larkin Chew, Junior and Mary Beverly-VA

I see several conflicting pieces of information on the various files/charts on RootsWeb World Connect about the John Smith (died about 1761) who married Mary Chew....a daughter of Larking Chew, Junior and Mary Beverly. The John Smith who married Mary Chew was a son of Maurice Smith (born about 1691; died about 1750) and Elizabeth....probably Elizabeth Bird/Byrd. Unlike what some of the referenced "charts" show, that John Smith was NOT the son of the John Smith who married Elizabeth Grace Cox, nor was he a son of the John Smith who married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Marshall, nor was he the son of a John Augustine Smith.

The above Maurice Smith was a son of Lt. John Smith and his wife, the widow Mrs. Jane (Cock/Cocke) Jones (the widow of Rice Jones, Junior and a daughter of Nicholas Cock/Cocke). Lt. John Smith was a son of the Alexander Smith, who was in Lancaster Co., VA by at least the 1650s, and who died in Middlesex Co., VA about 1696.

The above Lt. John Smith should not be confused with his neighbor who was named Captain John Smith, and who was a son of John and Margaret (Unknown) Smith. We do not know at this time if these two neighboring Smith families were related to one another, but we have three living male DNA donors who all "trace back" to Alexander Smith....and maybe someday we can find a male Smith DNA donor who "traces back" to the "neighboring Smith family."

We know that the above two Smith families intermarried when the John Smith who was a son of Lt. John and Jane Smith married an Ann Smith (daughter of a Thomas Smith) who was out of the neighboring Smith family. One of the children of that John and Ann (Smith) Smith was a later/younger Maurice Smith (typically "styled" as "Major") who was born about 1727 (as I recall) and who died about 1795 in Middlesex Co., VA (leaving a will).

John Smith and Mary Chew had a son who was also named Maurice (among several other children). It is not known, however, if that Maurice Smith ever married and/or fathered any children (and that Maurice Smith did not seem to appear on any census in VA in 1810). Another son of John Smith and Mary Chew was named John Smith, and there are some clues that suggest that he was the John Smith who married Mary Dunn (daughter of John Dunn and Judith Edmondson) and who lived over in Essex Co., VA for at least a while. The rest of the children of John Smith and Mary Chew were Mary Smith (married Thomas Towles), Larkin Smith (married Mary Eleanor Hill) and Elizabeth Smith (MAY have been the Elizabeth Smith who married a John Chew....does anyone know for sure)?

Thank you so very much for posting this letter. It answers a lot of questions I had about my Chew ancestors. I printed it out so I could reference it later because "the daughter that married a Johnston" is actually the link between the Chews and the Johnsons. It was William Johnson she married, not a JohnsTon. By the way, her name was Nancy, but she was called Nan. Thanks again for this wonderful letter. Victoria

Edgar Henry Baxter AKA Henry E B Chew

Looking for information about Edgar H. Baxter, born 1820, apparently acknowledged as the son of Henry B. Chew, son of Benjamin Chew Jr. (1800 to 1866). I say "apparently acknowledged" due to the testimony of Miller Brown at the Baxter appeal, who acknowledges that the family paid for the education of Edgar Baxter, and recounts a discussion that included Henry's brother, Benjamin. I would like more information on Jane Baxter, the mother, as well as on Edgar B. himself.
