Joe Childs was my great uncle. My Grandmother Helene (Nell) was born in France (Chantilly area) 12 May 1879. Her siblings were Arthur b. 1871, Louise b. 1878, Joe b 1884, Charles b. 1885 and Kate b.1881. There may be another brother but his name was certainly not Frederick.

Hello,

My name is David Childs, My Grandfather Frederick had 4 brothers, one we believe to be Joe.
The problems we have faced in tracking Joe down are innumerable. He was born in Chantilly, came back to the UK, went back to France, left France before WW1, joined the Army (Cavalry) of course! He donated all his winnings to Regimental Funds. Then stayed in the UK. So far, my brother and I have traced the "Childs'" back to the 14th Century, as Joe was not in the direct Paternal line we have not yet followed him up. It seems, and I say this with 80% certainty that Joe was probably my Great Uncle.

I am attempting to contact "nickychilds_3" (username on this site) in order to enquire about Victor-Hastings-Dare-Bascombe, listed on her Childs family tree. I have emailed her through the site, but she unfortunately hasn't logged in here now for over a year. Did anyone on here ever have any contact with her, about her relatives, and/or know of how else it might be possible to get a message (email?) through to her? Although unlikely, many thanks in advance for any further information that anyone might please be able to provide.

Regards,

Mark

My Childs family originally came from Jamestown Va 1600's to South Carolina to Georgia 1700's and then to Texas in the late 1800's, but no alabama or Flordia that I know of. The Philip name does not ring a bell here, other names might. Good luck in your search.

Charles Burrell
Conway, AR

Hello, I saw your post while browsing...it's from a long time ago, but I'm hoping you are still around! Could you tell me a little about your Phillip Childs? Do you know where and when he died? I was wondering if he might have gone to the southern states as an adult and had his family there. I am looking for a Phillip Childs b. abt. 1830 and died before 1870, married to an Alcey/Ailcy Pettis and had children in Alabama/Florida. I hope to hear from you.

Please help me solve a family mystery. I’ve been searching for several years for the Chiles family that lived in Elgin, Bastrop County, Texas in the late 1800’s. My G.Grand Mother was Lucy Chiles Delarosa who was born in Elgin, TX in 1872. Her parents were John Bonian Chiles and her mother was Maria J. I know that both of Lucy’s parents were born in Alabama per the 1910 Census that Lucy was in but I can’t find any other information about them. If you happen to have any information about Lucy’s parents and their parents please let me know.
Thank you in advance.
Nancy
Hi Jan... I'm hoping you're still working on the CHILDS clan of Eaton County. I've pretty much established that Osmyn, John, and Alonzo are, indeed, sons of Jonas. Jonas died 16 February 1860 in Eaton County, and his second wife, Martha Patty (Clapp) died in the same month. Jonas' first wife was Phebe Maybee. I have a death record for Alonzo which names his parents as Jonas and Phebe Maybee Phebe died 26 Dec 1830. I have a land record for Jonas, who sold property 9 Aug 1855, to John -- but it wasn't recorded until 27 Feb 1860 -- after Jonas died. Osmyn bought property in Eaton 5 Oct 1838, while Osmyn was living in Sheffield, Ashtabula Co., OH. Osmyn was in Sheffield in 1830. In 1830, Jonas was still back in Monroe Co., NY. We spent most of today in Charlotte, digging in records, and found a fair amount.
Bob

Jonas Childs

In a biographical sketch on George Ferris, in PROGRESSIVE MEN OF THE STATE OF WYOMING, by A.W. Bowen & Co.; George's wife, Julia Childs, born in Michigan, is named as the daughter of John Childs and granddaughter of Jonas Childs, thereby giving support to other posts on this list that John, Osmyn, and Alonzo, are sons of Jonas and his wife Martha (nee unknown). Jonas appears in 1820 and 1830 in Monroe and Genesee Counties in New York, with sons the right age to be John. Does anyone have any earlier information on Jonas Childs? His birth, by the way, might be 1781, (ref. 1860 Mortality Index for Eaton, Walton Twp.)Does anyone know who Patti Childs is? She died in Feb of 1860 in Eaton, too.

Hi Daniel
I have located a marriage between James W G Childs and Lucy J Brown on BMD register as taking place in Oct-Dec quarter of 1933 at Chelsea. Reference no. 1a 946. If you obtain a copy of the marraige certificate it should list ages for James and Lucy as well as both fathers names. It will be easier to locate James's and Lucy's birth details with an idea of age's.
Also located were birth details for Sheila R being registered at Lambeth in Oct-Dec quarter 1936 ref 1d 354, and Derek J registered Battersea Jul-Sep quarter 1939 ref 1d 534. Lastly registration of the death of Sheila R in Westminster Jan-Mar 1938 ref 1a 587.
I hope this helps. regards and good luck
Hi, I am trying to find a Lydia Ferrington born in Maine. In my research of my family in Alleghany Co. on Salt Rising Rd, in Little Gennesse, NY (Cummings)....I found this cemetery full of Childs and Ferringtons and one is a CHILDS, Montravel Born 2-20-1829 Died 1907 TS which may be later than you want but could be a descendant. I am thinking that Lydia went to Alleghany Co with her husband or went with a brother from Maine? and met Allen Cummings somewhere around Alleghany Co. but I haven't found them yet.
