In the years since I posted this note, we (my daughter & I) have determined that his name is indeed Thomas T. (not Thomas Joseph) - he appears on land records as Thomas T., as well as on censuses. We don't know where the name Thomas Joseph came from, nor do we know where we got the birth date.

We have been speculating that John C. and Elizabeth might be Thomas's parents, since John Henry was with them in one census. Do you have corroboration beyond the census?

I don't know any more about Senoy Dean than I used to. she is said to have been Cherokee or Choctaw. Her name might have been Acthena, since that name appeared later in the family - neither she nor Thomas was literate, so the spelling was whatever the census taker thought he heard, I suppose.

May I ask, what is your connection with these folks? Thomas and Senoy were my late husband's direct ancestors.

I found him as Thomas T. Childs, but the wife and children are the same, so I guess it is the same guy. All I have for you is his father's name is John C. Childs (b. 1791) who is married to an Elizabeth.

I'm looking for more information on Senoy Dean if you have any.

Thanks,
Elan

Hi, all I have is Frances Carolina Ward married John Tillman Childs in 1844 or 45. She was born abt. 1826/28. Her parents names were John and Harriet Ward living in South Carolina in 1830, They can be found on the 1830, 1840, 1850 on the So. Carolina census, 1860, 1870 on the Buscombe, No. Carolina census. I have a list of their children if you cannot find it. The one thing I have searched for for years is the death date and place of Frances. It had to be between 1880 and 1900. If you ever find that I would love to know. Thanks, let me know if I can help again. Jeepie

John Tillman married Frances Carolina Ward and their second son was Joel A. born in 1847 and married Malissa Price Simpson around 1868. John and Frances' third child was Harriet and she married John W. Sharp in 1869 in Roane County.
I have a lot of information about Archippus Parrish Childs. I do not believe he had a son named Jacob. There is a genealogy of that family at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. It is written by Julie Ann Strong (1821-1901). It contains the history of the Strong, Childs and Sax Families of PA.

Hi,
Thank you for the information about Carrie Manny who married Sidney E. Hammond. I have been searching for a while for information about her. Do you have more information about Carrie? My surname is Maney and we have reason to believe my father Everett Edwin Maney was her son, who was born in 1893 in Post Lake Wisconsin. She did not take her son with her when she left the area. The first listing I have is of Mary Irene (Mae) who I know lived down in Kansas. There was also a son named Roy
Thank you.

He married Cora Evans and they did have a child named Cora. I will gladly share what I have with you. let me know if you think it will be of any help. Norma

Ralph S. Childs DDS B: Oct. 1876 in Illinois to Asahel S. Childs MD & Harriet Amelia Hamilton

I am looking for descendants of Ralph S. Childs. His father was Asahel S. Child born 1843 in Moretown, Washington Co, Vermont.

By the 1860 Census, his father Dennis Childs has the family living in Omro, WI. Asahel married Harriet Amelia Hamilton. Harriet more then likely was living in Omro also from about 1862 with her father James Hamilton. Harriet was born in Cambridge, Maine 1844 & died between 1920-1930 in California. Asahel & Harriet were married about 1867 as their first child Myrtle was born in Wisconsin February 1868. Myrtle never married and died in Los Angles County, California September 14, 1954.

By the 1900 census Asahel and family including Ralph were living in Illinois in New Trier, Cook County and it appears Ralph remained in Trier, Cook County Illinois with his dentistry practice.

Ralph married Mary Tipton. Their children were Harriet A. Childs and Ralph S. Childs. Harriet born June 24, 1906 appears via a Tipton tree to have married a NELSON. Harriet dies June 26, 2001 in West Lafayette, Indiana and the only match for these dates AND in West Lafayette was a Harriet A. Nelson.

My family tree connection with this family is through Harriet Amelia Hamilton.

Thank you for updating me on James Childs. Afraid I have nothing to add. The only thing I found in Census prior to 1830 Wayne County Census was a James Childs in 1820 Zanesville OH Census, with wife,4 male children and 2 female- apparently not the same James Childs as you have him in Wayne Co. OH before 1820.
I do have 2006 photo of Mary Childs monument in Kendallville Cemetery if you are interested- Joseph's had fallen over, partially covered with grass and barely legible.

Jack,
I was confuse on the England origin, too. I found it wasn't Joseph Childs, who was born in England, but his father James Childs, who was born in the later 1700's. James move to Wayne, Noble, Ohio sometime before 1809. He may have came on the ship "Amity" in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from Bristol, England in 1800. There also is an annotation of James Childs in the year 1809 in Ohio listing British aliens in the United States during the War of 1812. There is a James Childs, who bought 80 acres in Wayne County, Ohio on July 1, 1831.
Joseph Childs was born in Ohio around 1807 and married Mary Likes. I hope this helps. Any more information you could provide would be welcomed. Thanks.

Do you have any information on James Childs born maybe sometime around 1790 in England. At some point before 1809 he moved to Wayne, Noble, Ohio. I know there was a James Childs who bought 80 acres in Ohio on July 1, 1831. I know there was a James who arrived September 22, 1880 from Bristol, England on the ship Amity to Phildelphia, Pennsylvania. I also know there was a James that on 1809 in Ohio was listed for annotation. I believe this is the father of Joseph Childs born in Ohio around 1808 and died in Indiana around February 27, 1862. He was the father of James H. Childs born in Ohio on April 1851 and died September 11, 1869 in Noble, Indiana. He was the father of Mary Matilda "Tilly" Childs born in Indiana on 1874. If you have any more information it would be appreciated.
