Thank you very much for the reply, Valerie. It's great to know what Chilson family Hannah Pettibone married into. I was thinking Joseph was likely Hannah's husband, too, though a forum posting about probate of an Asa Chilton in Genesse Co., NY, names his wife as Hannah, too.(Same man as Asahel?) So, I still wonder about Asa. "My" Hannah had a sister Hannah born ca1765 who died in 1767. Her death is recorded in Lanesborough Town Clerk records. The 2nd Hannah was born 8 March 1769, as also recorded in Lanesborough.

I am a descendant of Ezra Chilson, born in Scituate, RI to Alexander Chilson and Tabitha (Tucker). Alexander and Tabitha had the following children:
Ezra, 1762, m. Pamelia Daggett,
Joseph, b. 1767 Voluntown, CT, m. Hannah, b. 1764 (son: Oliver Chilson, b. 1792),
Nathaniel, b. 1772,
Asahel "Asa", b. 1773,
Levi, b. 1776, m. Candace
Abel (?),m. Maria L. Groesbeck b. (children: Nicolas, Alexander, Ann, Abel)

It looks like Joseph could have been the husband of your Hannah. I know that the family lived in Lanesborough, because Ezra (the oldest child) fought in the Revolutionary War, and he listed Worthington (1780) and Lanesborough (1782) as places of residence. He also lived in Vergennes, Addison Co., VT and Niles, Berrien Co., MI, where he died in 1838.
If you get this message, please contact me so that we can exchange information.
Ezra Chilson 1762-1838/Hiram Chilson 1797-1881 Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles MI

I am working on a project with the Friends of Silverbrook--www.friendsofsilverbrook.org--which is the cemetery for the City of Niles, MI.

We have a burial there for Ezra Chilson who served in the American Revolution. (He was born in Rhode Island but served in a Mass unit.) He married Pamelia Daggett (also buried at Silverbrook)and came to Michigan with several children around 1830. There is a military stone which is very weathered but legible.

One of those children was Hiram Chilson. Hiram served in the War of 1812. Interesting story that he was finally granted a pension of $8 per month by an act of Congress just weeks before he died in Nov. 1881. As far as we can tell, there has never been a stone and we are working on that.

Hiram was living with the family of his daughter Eliza Babcock (husband was Hiram Babcock) at the time of his death.

Mandana Case, a daughter of Ezra and Pamelia, is also buried at Silverbrook.

Are there descendants who have more history on this family to share? I would love to hear from you!

Aurilla/Orilla Easton Chilson, wife of Eli H. Chilson...must have divorced him as she was married about 1883 to Edwin W. Spicer. She died in 1929 and is buried with him in Barnes Cemetery, Barnes, Warren Co., Pennsylvania. She is listed on the Barnes Cemetery as O.F. Spicer 1853-1929. I know it is her as I found her name on a military record for one of her sons (either George or Charles) He listed her as the person who would always know where he was. And it listed her as Orilla F. Spicer, living in Barnes, Warren Co., Pa. Hope this helps. June Howard

If you are interested, whatever information I find from her I can share with you.

I have an old photo of of the woman, and on the back is written what looks like Sophie Chillsen (but could be Chillson, or misspelling for Chilson). This photo was probably taken in the 1870s or early 1880s, in Muskegon, Michigan. She appears to be in her 20s or 30s. Does anybody have the name of Sophie Chilson/Chillson in their files?

clarification re emer and mary etc

Emer Chilson (B 1800) married Mary Ann Osgood in 1824. They had children Stephen (B 1824), Samuel, Olive, Sarah, Emer Lafayette (B 1841), Samantha (B 1848), Napolean, Christian and Daniel.

Son Stephen had a son Emer (B 1851/2) who never married. You find him all over AZ and CA through 1920. You also will find Emer Lafayette Chilson, his Uncle and Stephens younger brother in the area, causing some confusion.

There are two Emer Chilsons around the same age in the second half of 19th century. One married, the other did not. The one with the parents of Stephan and Mary did not marry. The other was some kind of cousin. Emer was short for Elmer, is my understanding.

This Chilson family sounds like the same one that I have been searching in relation to BJ Drew. You can find them all over the place, but they are in San Bernardino in 1870, Los Angeles in 1880, Emer Chilson was in Riverside County in 1910, etc. The fathers name was Stephan Chilson. One of the kids was Emer (the one I was searching- he murdered my Great Great Grandfather in 1886 in Casa Grande Arizona-black sheep, I am sure), William and I can't remember the others. Anyway, just search for Stephen and you'll find the family. They were from Texas.

I had Lucille and Art Skadsem, but not Mike. So now I've added another cousin. I don't really have any Chilson info. I've added Bessie's parents and g-parents using the message board. If you would like a copy of my printout, I'd be glad to send it. Don't take it for gospel. I've some verification, especially on Azariah's family. None from MN. I've added info from the other cousin's that I have hooked up with through the message boards.
I would love to hear from you. Let me know about the printout.
Reva
