Classification: Query
Surnames: CHRIST, SWEETSER
JOHN CHRIST, b. abt 1857 in Wisconsin, married a BERTHA I. (?) (b. abt 1869). They had:
ARTHUR J. CHRIST, abt 1888
VERONICA B. CHRIST, abt 1891
ALFRED A. CHRIST, abt 1894
CLARENCE F. CHRIST, abt 1897 and
HATTIE M., abt 1904.
We are descended from CLARENCE CHRIST, who married MARJORIE SWEETSER (b. abt 1898) in Wisconsin. They lived in the Shawanno, WI vicinity. (MARJORIE's parents were LYMAN E. SWEETSER (abt 1862) and ADDIE M. EATON of Massachusetts.)
CLARENCE CHRIST started using the last name WILSON in the early 1920s for himself and his family to avoid discrimination against Germans so prevalent at that time. Later, though, we understand he left his family for greener pastures and headed down to the Carolinas where he died in an accident of some type possibly around late 1930s and probably under the name WILSON.
We are anxious to learn anything on CLARENCE and our CHRIST relatives who descend from CLARENCE's siblings. - Mark
