Karin... Have been trying to get in touch with you since your first note to me.
Since that Nabby Churchill information was posted I have added much info on the Churchill line. Elizabeth Churchill's mother-in-law was named Sarah Churchill but I have not been able to connect her to Elizabeth Blood Line wise. Elizabeth's husband was Charles Wainwright and Charles first appeared on the 1840 Census for Hancock, Del Co, NY..... He was head of household and there were 2 women in his household, one being his wife and the other is unidentified but approx the same age as his wife. There were no children at that point. By 1850 he and his wife and several sons are listed in Star Light, PA just over the border from Hancock.
Contact me via email: wrpotter@wildblue.net
I would be willing to share any info that I have, BTW Nabby was not related to 'our' Churchills but rather to another Churchill family of note in Susquehanna County.
I do have a copy of the death record for Elizabeth, about which I can discuss with you once we establish a better way to communicate.

I am also interested in the information about Elizabeth Louise Churchill and William Blanchard. They are my great, great, great grand parents. It is said that the information is lacking for Elizabeth. Did you record the information about William in the death records? I would be interested in that too.

OK Dave.... it seems there were several branches of Churchills' that migrated to the Southern Tier/Susquehanna region. The Other "Dave" had a copy of The Churchill Family in America (I think that was the name of the book. I have never been able to find a copy of it to do any checking. There was a group that came in via Philadelphia, I believe, as well as two groups in the New England states (CT and RI. If they were related is another question!
A word of warning - in Susquehanna Co. (I think it was 1860) there is a Rachel Churchill listed living with another family (Carpenter?). I believe she may be the Rachel that is the sister of Sarah A. Churchill..... I have not seen the actual census sheet that shows her so do not know what other info it may contain about her.

Good luck with your research and keep me posted if you find anything that may shed some light on the Delaware County, NY Churchills.

No, I don't think that we've been in contact before. I'm not Marie and Duane's son. Must have been a different Dave Churchill. There are several of us around.

I don't recognize any of the people that you have mentioned (at least not at first glance.) I'll have to do some checking tonite when I have more time.

I'm descended from Pardon Churchill, who relocated to Susquehanna County, PA from Rhode Island, as did 2 of his brothers, Williams Churchill and Cyril Churchill. I've been investigating this Susquehanna branch of the family lately. That's how I ran across your thread.

Good luck in your research.

Dave

Thanx for the note Dave..... I believe you and I have been in touch before. If I am not mistaken, you are Marie and Duane's son. I went to school with Marie in Davenport.
Yes, I think you are correct about Nabby being the spouse of Amos but it is only conjecture and doesn't get me to where I had hoped to be! I still Haven't found a lead to the parentage of Sarah A Churchill and her sister Rachel.
I have Sarah as being Bn abt 1819 in Delaware Co. NY and being the wife of George Wainwright. They were in Deposit, NY for the 1840 census and then in Starlight, PA by 1850. Sister Rachel was living with them in 1850 Starlight census. George and Sarah both died during the 1880's but I have no idea of what becam of Rachel.
Now - a son (Charles) of Sarah and George (Wainwright) married one Marinda Blanchard who was the dau of William Blanchard and an Elizabeth Louise Churchill. Marinda was Bn 21 Dec 1851 at Hartwick, NY and the Oneonta paper shoes that Wm and Elizabeth were md 21 Feb 1851 in Hancock, NY.
Elizabeth Louise Churchill died at Hartwick, NY 10 Mar 1896. The Town of Hartwick death records pose a problem! The record book page is filled out by hand of course and all records are completely legible EXCEPT for that of Elizabeth Louise Churchill! There are missing data as well. As near as I can decipher the information, Elizabeth L. Blanchard was 64 yrs 9 mo 11 d old at death (10 Mar 1896), married, a Housewife (Place of Birth: Not Given) Father was Sesal Chirchal (note spelling) and mother was Sarah Churchil (again note spelling). Elizabeth's death notice said she was the wife of William Blanchard and then went on to talk about him.... no information about her origin or who her parents or siblings might be or who may have been at the funeral (since she died in March she may not have been buried until later in the Spring due to frozen ground)

I find the lack of information to be very puzzeling, UNLESS - She may have been American Indian and things like that were not mentioned in those days if a wife was "passing". When I was about 10 years old I asked my father "Do I have any Indian blood in me?" and he said "Yes" so of course my next question was "Who"? He said "you wouldn't know the person but she was your Great Great Grandmother" Well at the age of 10 I couldn't really grasp that relationship. I sure wish I had access to some of my father's siblings now! I sure have a lot of questions that need answering!
I still do not know the relationship between Elizabeth Churchill and he mother-in-law Sarah Churchill!(If there was any)

I know there was a family that spelled their last name "Churchil" from what was the early Town of Davenport and that ended up in Stamford... I find a woman Sarah and her children but no mention of her husband..... could she have been the mother of Elizabeth?

Any thoughts you may have would be appreciated.

I realize that this is an old thread, but I didn't see any replies, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I suspect that her husband was Amos Churchill.

The 1840 Census for Susquehanna, PA lists Amos Churchill as a head of household. He and his (apparrent) wife are both in their thirties, which would coincide with her being 44 in the 1850 census that you cited. They have a males and a females under the age of 5, and also 1 of each under the age of 10, in the 1840 census. The 1850 census lists children whose ages coincide, along with Lucy, who was born aftyer the 1840 census.

Not definitive proof, but a good starting place for your research.

Hope this helps.

Dave Churchill

Thank you for responding to my posting. The only information I have is my grandmother was Elmina Mary Chapman, a cousin to Winston Spencer Chruchill, she married Rev. James Wesley Oliver. I did some searching and found link of a Christian Chapman and a John Chapman b:1-9-1742/43 who are directly related to Winston Churchill, can't say exactly were I found it, but I am unable to make a connection to my grandmother. Maybe between the two of us we can put it all together.
McGuiness Churchill was one of 9 brotheres and sisters. He was a brother of my great grandmother Ruth Chrchill Wiles. This summer I actually found a buried gravestone of Sara Cornelia Churchill ( McGuiness Sister ) and took it to my house and cleaned it up. Some of them are buried at an old cemetery by Rock Bluff Nebraska located next to Beaver Lake Nebraska. Levi and Rebecca Churchill are buried at Oakhill Cemet. in Plattsmouth. I will see if I can email you what I have. If you give me your address I will mail you what info I can find. Put in a search on Google for Clemmons cemetery. Also put in a search for John Clemmons Rock Bluff. There is quite a bit of information available.

David Schneider
Plattsmouth, Nebraska
