Help Wanted CHURCHILL English Marriages 1837 to 1903

I have copied the PRO registers for Churchill marriages in England and Wales from 1837 when records started to 1903 (I intend to go on to the end of 1910 after which spouses are listed within each entry) but only have a small proportion of their spouses listed.

So if anybody has any proof (particularly marriage license scans) as to Churchill spouses for the period I'd love to hear from you. Equally if anybody would like me to check my records for a listing I'd be happy to.

I also have about half of the birth records and a quarter of the death records for the same period.
looking for family members and gen search

My part of the Churchill family came into US at Massachursetts late 1600s or early1700s. From out of there they moved to Maine, Connecticut, Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California, Alaska, BC and Alberta. What I know for fact is that Samuel S. Churchill (wife Hannah) moved from Hubbard county, Minnesota to Washington state. The Churchills of Hubbard county today are all my relatives. Samuel homesteaded in the Snoqualmie Pass area in Washington. In his early 50s he died of pnemonia. Two of his sons prospected in the Yukon, Alaska and Northern California. One took up watchmaking in Seattle and my grandfather (Fredrick) homesteaded in Alberta. He late lived in BC and worked as a carpenter and orchardist in Washington state. He passed in 1980 at the age of 99. His brothers names were Claude, John/George and Leroy. Samuels father was (DR.?) John L. Churchill (b.1818 in Conn. d. 3/2/87 Hubbard cty) and his siblings were William K.(H?), Charles, Clara, Alfred and Mabel. Family homestead was N.W. quarter, section26 site of present day fairgrounds, Hubbard cty, Minn. At this point it is believed they descended from the Churchills who moved from Plymouth, Massachusetts to Wethersfield, Connecticut in the 1670s.

I have photo images of the personal information from a 1803 Bible with the surnames, Churchill, Fearo, Bullard, Dickson, etc.
They appear to be from the Plymouth/ So. Boston area of Massachusetts. There are many marriage, birth and death records. I would be glad to send copies to anyone researching these family name combinations.
This bible was purchased years ago at a Ely, Nevada rummage sale by an individual whose name I have lost. He sent them to me when he noticed I was researching Bullards. The Bullards were from the wrong line, but his generosity needs repayment by offering this information to others.

Hi! My ancestor, Joseph Dell Churchill, came to Arkansas from Michigan ca. 1820. His parents were William Churchill (b. 1771) and Jane Dell of NY/NJ, and the family lived in Marietta, OH, for several years before (also New York and New Jersey) settling in Michigan.

I'm looking for anyone who knows about this family -- where they lived in Michigan, what became of their other children, anything along these lines.

The names of their other children were Ruth, Anna, Silas, Lydia, Adna, Martha, Randall, William Hubbard, Asa, and Rhoda. Some of families these children married into: GRAY, HAMILTON, ARNOLD.

Hope I can connect with some long-lost northern cousins!

Cerelle

Elizabeth Churchill and James MacKirdy

I am looking for any info on Elizabeth Churchill b.1838-1841 in Quebec, d.1925 in Ontario. She is the daughter of Thomas Churchill b.abt. 1800 in either Ireland or England. The 1881 Canadian census lists Thomas as living with Elizabeth, as well as Elizabeth's sister Charlotte. I believe Thomas's wife was Irish.

Elizabeth was the second wife of James MacKirdy b. 1814-1817 in Scotland, d. 1875, Toronto. James came to Canada with his first wife, Hannah Tyas b. abt. 1817 in England (?), d. 1853 in Toronto. He was a bursor at an insane asylum in Toronto. I don't know when James and Elizabeth were married, but their oldest child, Henry John was born 11-29-1855.

James and Elizabeth are my great-great-grandparents and Henry is my great-grandfather.

I would appreciate any info on Elizabeth and her family, as well as any info on James.

Many many many thanks!
Churchill, Henry, Herkimer, is a native of New York, and took a university course at Yale College, graduating with honors. In 1866 he came to Herkimer from Gloversville and entered into the manufacture of paper with his brother-in-law, the Hon. Warner Miller. He has since that date given the greater part of his time to the prosecution of his manufacturing enterprise, but is also president of the First National Bank of Herkimer, in which he takes a great interest and just pride.

source:
History of Herkimer County, New York : illustrated with portraits of many of its citizens
edited by George A.
Churchill Family, Nailsea, Somerset 1871

I am trying to find out more details about Edward and Martha (nee Danskin) Churchill. They are shown on the 1871 census living on the Main Road, Nailsea, Somerset with three children, Martha's father (Joseph Danskin) and her two youngest siblings (Sarah and Edward). Their 7 year old child's name is difficult to read - looks like Hana W. I'd like to know if they stayed in Somerset or moved back to Northumberland. Edward Churchill's occupation was glassblower - was there a glass factory in Nailsea in 1871? All information welcomed. Thank you.

Hi
I am researching my family line and have hit a road block with the Churchill Line. My mothers maiden name was Churchville. The named had been changed by my grandfather.
My grandfather is Claude Lee Churchville, his father is John W. Churchill. This is as far as I can seem to get with the Churchill Line. According to the census John Churchill was born in South Carolina, he married Elizabeth ?
A few names of thier children are Rosa, Burton, Florida, and Claude. John Churchill was born 1854, Elizabeth was born 1855, Claude was born 1885 or so, and he married Sarah R. McCaskill. My mom is Claudis Churchville, she married James B. Whitley from Alma, Ga. The Churchville, Churchill lived in Georgia from at least 1900 as thats all the records I have. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Jonathan Churchill and Sarah Deming

I am new to researching the Churchill line as I have only just now broken down a brickwall to find Solomon Ranney and his wife Rebecca Churchill. HOWEVER, there is a major flaw in the information available concerning the wife of Jonathan3, (Joseph2, Josiah1).
Jonathan's known children were born between 1724 and 1731, which places boundaries on the birth year of their mother of about 1680 (earliest date) and about 1708 (latest date).
Sarah Buck, who married Samuel Deming, was born 4/1/1669, making her 55 in 1724, 62 in 1731. This is not reasonable. The Buck genealogies indicate that this woman's second husband was BENJAMIN Churchill. This was likely Josiah's son, Benjamin, b. 1652, and this marriage makes all sorts of good sense as Benjamin's wife, Mary, died in 1712. (Verified).
The two facts--bad age and different husband--seem to eliminate all possibility of this woman as Jonathan's wife and mother of his children. That leaves a gaping hole in the spot where Jonathan's wife belongs. I can't think I'm the only one who ever did this arithmetic, so who has the answer? HELP!

Mamie signed the book in 1893 and Fannie signed the book in 1898. The book belonged to a Rollie Bradley, who appeared to have lived in Mechanicsburg Illinois. He is between 40-50 years so his birth year would be between 1790 and 1800. I think he is married to a Sussanah Beidleman born 1792. I cannot find him on any other census in this county or state. They were married in 1833. He died in 1845 and I believe is buried in the Morrison Cemetery in Mifflin County, PA. Does he sound familiar to anyone?
Edith died in 1896 and then Richard married a Ms Salmon. Edith Churchill was suppose to have been disowned by her family but ..... we might never know. Someone was looking for George in South Africa when he was in the army (Boer War) but we don't know who. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for decendents of Minnie Sinclair Churchill in Detroit Mi Michigan

My gr gr grandmother had 3 husbands. This is how I believe the progression of names went; Born in Ireland in 1847 Sarah Eliza Mulamphy, married possibly a Murray, then Duncan Sinclair, then James McKinnon in 1873 Bay City.

She had possibly 6 or more children and one of them was Minnie or Mary Sinclair Churchill. Minnie marrried John Churchill and had 9 or more children. Johns fathers name was Joseph. My mother says that John and Minnie Churchill had a farm in Metamora Michigan where my Grandmother Sarah Marie Smith-Glynn and her sister Geraldine Smith spent time with in the summer.

Sarah Eliza McKinnon's grave is in Mt Elliot cemetery in Detroit MI and buried with her are;

Listed according to plot number;

1.Helen L. Churchill Feb.13, 1899 age 2 yrs

2.Sarah McKinnon Sept.24, 1917 age 69 yrs

3.Sarah E. Smith Mar.15, 1927 age 48 yrs

4.Duncan J. Sinclair Oct.3, 1868 age 27 yrs

5.Elizabeth Sinclair Feb.16, 1869 age 2 yrs

6.James McKinnon Feb. 24, 1888 age 46 yrs

7.Mary J. Murray Nov.16, 1955 age 81 yrs

8.James Eric Murray April 23, 1986 83yrs

9.Daniel William Murray Jan. 25, 1983 61yrs

10.Edna Lohmuller Restagno June 3, 1994 58yrs

My mother Joanne is one of 9 children of Sarah Marie Glynn. She remembers the Churchill family being involved with her family but we have lost all contact with them. I believe since John and Minnie had so many children that some of thier decendents still live in the Detroit area. Also the fact that the family was still using the family plot as late as 1994 leads me to think that they are still local. There is an endowment on the grave site possibly placed by Ruth L. Murray. I would like to make contact with the Churchill's and/or the Murray's to share genealogy, family tales, and hopefully some photos. We have few photos, few dates, and are clueless about the migration of our family to Michigan. If you know this family please reply,

Donna Wettig-Hitz
Fenton MI
They had Bertha, William, Lucy (these 3 born in NF) Mary, Charles, Thomas and possibly Jessie (these 4 born in Ontario). The family moved to Ontario somewhere between 1871 and 1876. Would love info on Apollos's and Sophia's parents, siblings, place and date of death. Have heard a possibility that his parents may be Martin and Dorcas. Can anyone confirm??
Trish

Sarah CHURCHILL w/o John WILSON, Staten Island, NY 1800's

Has anyone got any information on Sarah CHURCHILL b. abt 1817 NJ who married John WILSON b. abt 1814 NJ? Marriage date and place unknown. Marriage, based on 1st son's b-day would be before 1835. The couple moved to Staten Island, Port Richmond area of the town of Northfield. All their children are listed as born in NY.

Their children, b-years are approximate : John H. Jr. b. 1835 ; Jessie b. 1836; Mary Jane b. 1839; Isabella b. 1843; Catherine b. 1845; Emilie Louise b. 30 Mar 1847 (from Perullo tree at RootsWeb World Connect Project); Anna A. b. 1849 & James b. 1850.

John WILSON dies sometime between 1850-1860.

Sarah WILSON nee CHURCHILL is listed as a Saloonkeeper 1860 census, keeping house 1870 and gone by 1880. Don't know her fate whether remarried at this point or died.

Sarah's daughter Mary Jane married William Austin EDWARDS of Orange, Essex Co, NJ and they lived and raised their family on Staten Island, NY.

Sarah's daughter Emilie Louise married Louis Henry PEROCHEAU and they appear to have reloacted to and lived Yonkers, Westchester Co, NY.

My ancestor is Mary Jane. See the Perullo tree if it is Emilie Louise you are interested in; anything I know about her is what I got there.

Accepting any and all help with this one as I am stuck right at Sarah CHURCHILL and John WILSON.

Thanks!

Churchill Family in Lanark & Renfrew Counties, Ontario (Canada West) or Bathurst District, Upper Canada; also Kingston area (now Frontenac County)

Searching for relatives/descendants of SAMUEL CHURCHILL who was possibly from County Cavan, Ireland; served with Royal Sappers then supposedly tranferred ("9-16-1813") to Royal Artillery (British) in War of 1812 in Canada (transcription of one document said he had 8 years service); demobilized at Wolfe Island (near Kingston, Ontario) then received property thru military land grant c.1819 in Burgess Twp in Bathurst District, now Lanark County; moved to Ramsay Twp c.1826; died before 1835 March 10 when his widow JANE of Lanark (m.s. possibly BOWLES), "a widow with 6 children", married Joseph HARPER. Jane is listed on 1871 Census-age 79, with husband Joseph Harper-age 107, but according to the Harper Family, she passed away before his death in 1874. Samuel & Jane's children possibly included: William born circa 1816 (wife Mary Ann CASWELL), John b. c. 1819 (wives Hester >various spellings>STRITHERS / STRATHERS / STODDARDS / STODDART / STODHERT, & Jane MOORE), Elizabeth b. c. 1823 (husband John CAVANAGH, cabinet + pattern maker b. c. 1821 Ireland-various spellings incl. CAVANAH, CAVANNAH, KAVANAH); Joseph b.c. 1824 (?died young); Thomas b.c. 1826 (wife Angeline DRAPER); Jane b.c.1830 (husband Thomas WILSON); possibly another daughter who married a man named 'HUGHES' from Bathurst Twp (8th Concession); as well Samuel was listed with a wife & children>>1 male over 12 and 2 males under 12 circa 1819 when he received the land grant in Burgess Twp. Joseph Stoddart could either be the father OR guardian of Hester who married John Churchill (re: marriage bond-1840; two of Hester's children's marriage registrations list their mother's surname as Strithers and Strathers). HAVE EARLY PHOTOS - SOME TIN-TYPES FROM 'PERTH, CANADA WEST' (c.1842-1867) plus many later from Perth & area, but none labelled with names - would appreciate help to identify same!!

Re: Larry Churchill & Ned Brooks:
Been researching Josiah Churchill for over year, via internet sources, also used various message boards. Have been able to trace Josiah & John back to England, even France. But,many who have been researching for years, claim there is no proof beyond the U.S.Some claim Josiah (Wethersfield,Conn), John (Ply, Mass) And William (New York), all brothers, but, again, beware no way it's documented (that anyone knows of.) What is well documented: Josiah married Elizabeth Foote in Wethersfield,1638. John married Hannah Pontus in Plymouth 1642. Both lines have many early descendants throughout New England states, then across America. Lots of info on www.familysearch.org and ancestryworldtree.com, plus others. But, beware, lots of misinformation. Larry,if you have info going back to England, would love to hear from you. I will be going to Boston Library in a few months where a relative, who done extensive research on Churchills (went to England re search), is said to have deposited his search,a manuscript, at Library.
